Ebay Z's
Must resist the temptation to have a rant.... Must resist the temptation to have a rant... MUST RESIST the temptation to have a rant. ;) ... Oh blow it, I got well fed up of reading that kind of rubbish when I was searching for a zed. However I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this character didn't get the £6500 he's after. Doh! There, that wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.

Bad accident
Ouch. I don't think the guy in the yellow jacket will have made it. I can't believe people stand right next to the road like that.
-
At least wash it !!
Agreed. Mine gets dirty but I wouldn't see any point in taking it to a show that way. Black is as bad as white for showing up the dirt - if it's not bright and shiny it looks rubbish. So what do you guys use for keeping the engine bay clean more than just a quick wipe over?

Fast Twat nearly killed me
Yeah, I had a similar thing happen with a Land Rover in my old car. Fortunately the fact that I was going up quite a steep hill at the time helped with the braking. Some people just shouldn't be allowed on the road. Glad you're OK.

5-40 or 10-60 - no wars please
Uh-oh, here we go.... ;) No seriously, I'm going to leave the talking to somebody who knows, however you may find the following useful: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=34815. I'm now going to hide before I get a belting.

Car cover / tarpaulin
...Or then again. It arrived this morning. I'm really impressed as I thought it would take ages. I haven't tried it yet because the car's wet from the rain last night. Anyway I got it from http://www.conceptzperformance.com/ as Dave suggested so thanks to him. Cost me $118.99 including shipping (3 day air option) which when I ordered last Thursday was the equivalent £62.39. Very impressed and would heartily recommend cZp to anyone. Like to see the accursed seagulls of Dorset try to blast their way through that with their foul, paint-eating excretions. Nyiiii.

Tesco 99 Ron fuel
Oops, I think I must have been concentrating on something else when I wrote that, although I've no idea what. What I meant was the tank was over a quarter full when I started off and took £43 worth to fill it up. Still pretty pricey but not quite as bad as £160 to fill a tank. ;)

Yeah, cheers Greg. I'm not that desperate to die yet. ;)

annoying squeak from brakes
Thanks Jon, I'm going to try that later. If that's what it is (and I'm pretty certain you're spot on) I'll get it back in for some warranty work because I don't want to have to fork out for a new ABS unit. Thanks, Bart

brushed metal trim
Chris, have you got any pics of yours? Wouldn't mind a look if that's OK please? Thanks, Bart

annoying squeak from brakes
Thanks b19rks. Like speedomon said: glad I'm not the only one who gets this. I'm assuming it's not a major issue in that case. Right then, suns gone in a bit so I'm going out to wash and polish the thing (again - I never thought I'd be the kind of guy who cleans his car on a weekly basis but needs must). Cheers, Bart

annoying squeak from brakes
LOL. Yeah, I'm on standard disks and pads. Thinking I'll upgrade at some point (i.e. when these ones wear out). Where's the best place to get Brembo kit from? And actually (sorry, this is a bit off topic) with that article somebody posted the other week about how big break kits can screw up your ABS system are there any kits out there that will work OK with the ZX ABS? What I don't want to do is ditch it entirely because I'm not going for the out and out race car thing. Thanks, Bart

OK that's cool. I'm busy later on so I'd need to do early in any case. Hasta la vista.

annoying squeak from brakes
Funny. I noticed exactly the same thing the other day but only if I stand on the pedal fairly hard. Anybody knows why this happens I'd be pleased to hear as well. Thanks, Bart

Yet another "What do you think of this?" thread
Looks nice but seems like it might be a bit pricey: http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=NISSAN&model=300+ZX&variant=&keywords=&min_pr=75&max_pr=10000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=cb4+2as&miles=1500&max_records=200&source=0&photo=1&sort=5&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH&start=4&distance=58&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200516190679185 Also, yet again (grinds teeth) no information on mileage, manual or automatic transmission, TT or NA which winds me up and doesn't inspire a huge amount of confidence in the seller. I can understand more if it's a private sale but if the guy's a professional trader he should know this information is important. Grr. Sorry, rant over. On the plus side at least it doesn't say "very quick car" or something like that. Really sorry. I shouldn't be looking anyway now I've got a zed but I still like to see what's out there. Anyway, not being the kind of guy who knows how to leave well alone I'm vaguely tempted to give him a call. Cheers, Bart

spyware
Here's what I do. Hope it helps. I think everybody else has already covered virtually all of this anyway: - Use Firefox 1.0.3 as my web browser (http://www.mozilla.org) rather than IE. That'll hinder the ability of a lot of spyware to install itself in the first place (note that it won't completely stop all spyware as some is now targetting FF but it's still way better than IE). - Run Norton Internet Security Professional with the firewall turned on (but you can use the Windows firewall). In any event make sure you're running some decent up to date anti-virus software: the boundary between viruses / trojans and spyware is becoming increasingly blurred. - Run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy (the website looks rubbish but it's really a great tool). - As a last step we've got broadband with a wireless router. I don't use the wireless access myself because it's a bit temperamental but I've got all the encryption turned on (only WEP but better than nothing). More importantly I've configured the router to act as a simple hardware firewall that'll keep a lot of stuff out. Again, it's not 100% but it's another barrier in the line of defences to slow all this crud down. Having said all of that the kicker if you don't play games and you know what you're doing with computers is to ditch Windows entirely and install Linux or buy a Mac with Mac OS X Tiger installed. And that's it: no more spyware and virtually no viruses... and even if you do get infected they can't do much damage anyway because of the way the systems work. Absolutely marvellous: the only reasons I haven't done this are (i) I play too many games, and (ii) I'm a software developer writing stuff to run on Windows and sometimes I need to work from home.

What made you get a zed?
I've admired them since I was... well I think I must have been about 18 when I saw my first Z. Didn't know what it was at all at first, but it had (and has) this sort of vaguely sci-fi Japanesy look to it that's always appealed to me. It looks and feels (I think) like a real Japanese sports car rather than a Japanese sports car that's trying to copy Western sports cars or that feels like an assembly of parts that resemble what a generic sports car looks like, if you know what I mean.

My zed had 10Billion HP
You guys obviously read http://www.sniffpetrol.com.

New Road angel or New Snooper???
Yeah, I was and still am thinking of getting one of these things, and have been leaning towards the snooper.

HaHaHa
Yep, went out for a drive this afternoon. Mate calls and I said I'm out for a drive (with the roof off obviously), he says fancy going out again because he hasn't been in the car yet. Well in the Z you don't need to ask me that twice. Blatted it round some proper country lanes for a change. Much more fun than the motorway. Although I have got into this slightly dangerous habit of thinking, "Hey, I wonder how fast you can go round this bend before the backend twitches." So far it hasn't twitched which is great because I'd probably fill my pants if it did but I am amazed at the way it holds the road (and doesn't lurch around) compared to my old car.

Tesco 99 Ron fuel
That could be really good news. 93p per litre for Optimax in Cambridge. Put £43 worth of petrol in the car yesterday to fill up the tank but it was still just a little over a quarter full. Ouch!! Couldn't even get that much petrol in the old Clio if I wanted to.

Zed's and Escorts..
And that was only because the rev limiter kicked in. ;)

What other cars have you?....
Just the Z now. Up until last weekend had a 1998 Renault Clio RXE 1.6. Did about 40mpg. Z seems to do about half that or less. Oh well, not why I bought it. ;)
