Well done! By taking your truck out for a run, you've managed to offset the carbon omimssions saved by those turbines for another 20 years! Opinion on the RX7 and RX8's?
RX7 is classed as a 1.3 litre, so some companies actually give decent insurance quotes. But, it doesn't sound like either car is suitable for what you need. RX7 is an enthusiast's car much like the Zed. The RX8 is a tosser's car IMO :whistling: If I were looking for a nippy, rear wheel drive run around I'd be looking at a 180/200sx or something. Or even a half decent 2.0 capri, with classic insurance. any car on a classic policy will cost less to insure. If you were looking at Mazdas, why not the MX5? Or does it need 4 seats?

I'm glad to see that my comments were taken 100% seriously, just as I intended. Strange how no-one questioned the birds falling from the sky bit :tt2: If they had reduced the rake angle of the rear glass and had the rear deck lid sloping down towards the rear a little, I think it could have worked. But it didn't and it doesn't. And all the cheese in china won't change that.. :winkiss:

Just for a bit of balance.. Its awful - its a complete abomination of the car's lines - the reason there is 30 pictures and not one clear photo from the side with the roof up, is because it looks gash. Its hideous. In testing small children would cry and parents would shield their eyes. Dogs would vomit as it drove past and birds would fall from the sky, convulsing. The reason it never went into production is because it looked terrible (not with the roof down so much) and it was as heavy as a ship's anchor. In performance tests it managed a top speed of 37.5 mph. To perform the publicity shots they had to tow it behind a skoda then cut the tow chain just before they took the snaps. Satan put a deposit down for one - THATS HOW BAD IT WAS :devil: Nuff said.

How much lag?????
If i were you chief I'd get it to a rolling road and let someone set it up for you, but not before you get the balance bar an other little things sorted. Before I bought my car I had a test drive in an auto with a boost controller. With the boost in its lowest setting the lag was unnoticeable, but in its highest setting it was wait... wait... there you go, you barsteward :helpsmilie: Span its wheels all the way upto 80mph as I seem to remember. AND that was from an auto, running standard tubs but with a boost controller. I was a little surprised at the performance, it was certainly quicker than my Zed, but boost lag was very noticeable when the wick was wound up. PS, never believe anything that a 300zx owner tells you, we are all compulsive liars :tt2: "that'll last forever, made of granite that is" "I've spent thousands on this engine (in my dreams)" "had a race with this porsche the other day..." etc etc :2guns:

If by 'very reputable garage' you mean Zedworld, then it must be something very unusual. Or if by 'very reputable garage' you mean a hairy-arsed spanner monkey who used to look after your Clio, then I'd get straight over to Zedworld. Sounds like something aint right, but then I guess that's why you're here. You did check the clutch to make sure it wasn't covered in lard, didn't you? :drool:

Depends how fast you're going I reckon! Stationary in traffic after a hot lap of monaco and I think you'd be getting into 3 figures. Pulling into Tibshelf services after a 70mph cruis and you'd probably see about 50. The plenum gets hot to touch after a evening blast in ine, so I'd guess that was about 70-80. But that soon changes once you're on the move (the plenum temperature doesn't change too much, just the amount of heat transfered to the air around it). In summary I'd say you'll be fine - I doubt very much you take your car for a blast then stop immediately before it has chance to cool..

Warm air = low boost
If you're running standard turbo's then they'll be operating towards the upper limits of their capacity. On a hot day, they have to work harder to compress air to the same pressure. It could be though, that your air filter is dirty and restricting the amount of air getting into the engine, or possibly the intercoolers can't cool the gases effectively - so either way the turbos cannot reach the same level of boost. If you have uprated turbos and intercoolers, then i would agree it could be a problem. But if it boosts ok when the air is dense, then I think you have the answer to your problem. It might be that you just need to give your filter a clean and generally a bit of under bonnet tlc. But then again, depending on how hard you drive your car, your turbos could be reaching the end of their shelf life. How many miles have they done, are they standard or uprated etc.. If you were driving a naturally aspirated car, I'm sure the effects would be similar. Air density is a pretty crucial element of combustion afterall..

Warm air = low boost
Easy bud, It seems pretty self explanatory - I think you're already aware what is the cause, it isn't really a problem, just an effect of the environment. The engine won't allow the turbos to boost any further as it will overfuel or not have the right mix. It could be that your gauge or boost measuring device is a little out with its figures, but either way, it doesn't sound like a problem. I'd be more concerned if it WAS boosting to 14psi Cheers

my advice mate (having been a best man twice..) do not read from a piece of paper. Only use que-cards if you have a memory like a sieve. When you're reading from paper it makes the speech less personal, difficult to maintain eye contact with your audience and potentially make you feel more nervous when you see your paper shaking like a leaf. Do your best to remember what you want to say and make the rest up as you go along. Don't over-do it, keep it short and sweet, make everyone laugh a couple of times and sit the fook down. Back slaps all round - everyone starts drinking! Trust me, it works much better like that. :gunsmilie:

To break or fix???
I think as a Zed enthusiast you have a loyal duty to start fixing a Zed rather than breaking another one.. Otherwise, you will find it difficult to find a nice Zed because they will all be petrified of going to 'big Jim's breaking yard in the sky' :tt2: That said, I know exactly what you're considering - just how much money do you want to spend getting it right? You must have realised that to sort the exterior, interior and engine will set you back way, way, way more than just buying a nice Zed from the off. But not everything should be about money (unless you don't have 2 pennies to rub together :pinch:). Is the chassis a good un? Do you feel any attachment to the car - I view my cars in the same way i view my pets.. You don't get your dog put down because it gets a gammy leg, you pay hundreds of pounds to a vet instead.. Seriously though, the way I see it - if you spend over the odds making your car perfect, you can rest well in the knowledge that if looked after correctly, you can keep that car as long as you like and it will always be a good en. So in summary, I'd break it - then join a more reliable car club.. :tt2:

Just been for an evening stroll, in the space of 5 minutes I saw the following.. Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee in their matching Callaway tuned Corvette ZR1's (awesome) GTR 35 (tuned) BMW X6M (tuned + shocking bodykit) Ferrari F430 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Lamborghini Mucielargo SV670 (exhaust note to die for) Ferrari 599 GTO (wet myself) Audi R8 V10 Spyder Porsche 911 Cabrio (boring) In addition to the highlights, there was a plethora of Porsche Cayennes, Range Rover sports, all wearing bodykits and wheels of questionable taste. The Mercedes C63 AMG is very popular too, but there are so many high end Mercs you stop noticing them! Today is the holy day and I think a lot of the Arabs let their hair down with a quick blast in their ultimate toy. But to set up a business in the UAE, you have to have an Arab business partner, who largely do nothing other than take a cut of the profits.. And seeing as the immigrant population out number the Arabs by 90%, its hardly surprising they have such nice motors! An awesome sight though, normally you'd have to go to a motor show to see that kind of metal. 1st prize had to go to the Lambo though, if only for that incredibly loud exhaust note.. :cool2:

2 guys for 2 days? Feck me, I've laid a slab 3 times that volume in just one day. And I had to carry the concrete in my pockets over 100m of hot coals :devil2: Are they putting in any re-bar? and how big is the hot tub? Surely you want the hot tub sunken into the floor don't you? If the quote includes setting a recess for the hot tub then the price is probably quite fair.. If you can wait til mid June I'll come and do it for free, providing I get the keys to your motor for a bit! Cheers

Epic Welsh Roadtrip planning!
easy chap, was working in the Brecon area recently, had to travel between south and north wales pretty frequently. From Brecon I took the A470 out towards Llandrindod Wells, which turns into the A483 heading to Newtown. The whole journey from Brecon to Newtown is epic - but due to the nature of the road (especially between Llandrindod and Newtown), timing on this route is crucial to avoid heavy traffic and particularly lorries! I was commuting in my Astravan and despite the lack of grunt and underwhelming rubber adhesion, the road was simply spell binding. After Llandrindod the road turns and twists constantly - all the time I was craving the power of my Zed - so much so, that I too was planning a road trip in the summer once my engine is rebuilt. Personally, my plan is to head to South Wales, work my way north, stopping off in the Manchester area before heading up to the Lakes and eventually Scotland. I had a drive up through Glen Shee wwhen I went Snowboarding at Xmas, this was another road i thought only the Zed could do real justice to. Good luck with your trip, I'm sure where ever you head - it'll be good in the Zed!

Flipping heck!
Saw a Sagaris with the ZR1 engine tuned to 700bhp. Would probably spin the wheels all the way up to 200mph. I think you really can have too much of a good thing... :surrender: 500bhp/ton is plenty

Advertising my car where
I sold my skyline within 2 weeks on Pistonheads, First guy to come and see it, bought it. I hadn't even put 'first to see will buy' in the ad. Missed opportunity! I would give it a few weeks on Pistonheads and then try autotrader if its not selling. When i'm looking for a car, I always check both - I'd assume most enthusiasts would. Don't mean to throw a cat amongst the pigeons here, but surely it would be better to break the car if you were really after getting some pennies?

Wtf!!!!!!
I never really understood why people have vented nose panels, not when the air filter is down behind the front bumper... Is it to cool the radiator? or just aesthetic? Also, technically, 'ram' air scoops need a direct connection to the air filter to allow an increase in intake pressure, hence 'ram' air into the engine. The most recent Bristol supercar uses this to get another 5-10% power when travelling at speed. Don't think it would work with our MAF sensors though :lol:
