  1. Pass with no advisories? Surely thats cos it failed first time and you had to fix them  You only get to whoop whoop about no advisories when its your first MOT - cmon Vod, you should know the rules of this game now! Oh, and congrats by the way - just reward for all your hard work!
  2. That looks surprisingly good! Also - I wouldn't worry about having to go to the south of england for a good bodyshop. Bernie and Leepu are quite busy at the moment, anyway. Someone in Scotland must know their way around a box of glue and glass shards, surely to god... If that fails though and you wanna spend £800 on that spoiler - just do it. I'm about to have a cash bonfire and get my engine rebuilt, its my money I'll do what I like, even if it makes no financial sense whatsoever :tt2:
  3. That's all you had to say on the subject. Seen a lovely example for sale on autotrader and pistonface - for sale through WRC i think, black one with the silly Darth Vader body kit from Failside. Be quick though, its only been for sale for about 2 yrs I think. Infact, they're probably gonna have to put the price up to cover the cost of advertising (5k now i think). Form an orderly queue.. Apart from the front wing, side skirts, bonnet vent, rear bumper and spoiler - I really like it. :tongue_smilie:
  4. Stick a wanted note up in the trading section if you can't see any advertised. Failing that, get the car back to Zedworld and/or ask Jeff/Jamie to source you some decent parts from a breaker.
  5. drifting with r888 tyres? surely that's like trying to swim in treacle? could understand having good tyres on the front, but the rear?? Have i missed something here?
  6. I thought £9k was a reasonable price, but I actually thought it was the TT one  I have to agree with Vodkashots - what Shamaz said was a little insulting really, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. When I was looking for my Zed I saw a '99 plate TT with 20k (ish) advertised for £13k (purple one up manchester way if anyone remembers) and that got sold eventually. Finding someone who is willing to pay that amount is difficult - but it doesn't mean its not worth it. If it was the TT version and I had the cash I wouldn't think twice. Opportunities like this don't come along every day. Good luck with the sale Sudesh, lets hope it goes to a future member!
  7. I would play the good Samaritan. Approach her and tell her you are concerned for her safety. Say you have another property close by that would keep her out of harms way while she gets things back on track. Arrange for a van to load all her posessions into and then drive to a layby in the middle of nowhere and dump her stuff there. She wanted to move... you wanted your house back. Noone forced anyone to do something they didnt want to. Everyone's a winner. Just have to live with a guilty conscience for a while until you get over it! If she doesn't fall for that, then I would change the locks the moment she steps outside the house. If she wants to get back in she can pay for a new set. Fookin scroungin toss bags.
  8. Best of luck with it mate, hope it works out. If you need a make up artist for any of the glamour shoots, let me know - I'm pretty handy with a trowell
  9. I think it looks ok to be honest. But surely for that money you could go to a body shop with a photo and say 'make me this'? And get it blended in too, perhaps? You could end up spending £800, get it and then find out it fits like a piece of ... Just a thought.
  10. Really I was just trying to provide a bit of balance to the argument. Everyone is so quick to suggest ditching the Hicas system is a good idea - but I cannot see why. Also, the thing I took issue with was the reference to Hicas being a gimmick. A gimmick is putting Ltd Edition stripes on an end of line model, in the hope it will boost sales of vast quantities of unsold stock. Developing a mechanical device which affects which direction the wheels are pointing is not a gimmick - its something that requires a huge amount of investment and time. As I confessed, I've not had the benefit of driving a plethora of Zeds. Im not a physicist either: but the way MY car changes direction at speed stupifies me and I'm a pretty keen driver who regularly drives on track (not in my car, admittedly). I can only assume that this is the benefit of the Hicas system, but based on my experiences of other cars this is the conclusion I came to. If you think otherwise, then I would have to accept your opinion on that. Having been on this forum a while now, I know you're not a muppet. However, like I said - my main adgenda was to provide a bit of balance to the arguement, as I percieved I benefited from someone offering me similar advice. For reference I don't think anyone listens to what I say anyway.. (see m reed's thread titled 'Hicas removal' or similar)
  11. I too, would have a 993 over a 996. Last of the air-cooled engines, best looking etc. The 996 is ok, granted - just not great. I'd have to have a coupe too. Not only for dynamic reasons, but also for security too. The targa versions are supposed to be the best comprimise and have a wonderful panoramic glass roof a la Peugot 407 SW or whatever.. To me a porsche should be about one thing and one thing only - driver involvement. If you're buying a porsche to be seen in, then.. well, you know what you should do - :hang: So coupe all they way - preferably a wide bodied 993 carrera 2!
  12. Janus - fear ye not, your premium won't be affected by this, its only younger persons who will be affected. As for who are the safest drivers, well its entirely down to the individual. Men are better suited physiologically to driving, but unfortunately, have a tendancy to make decisions using their groin area. Women lack spacial awareness (and common sense ) and are prone to slight bumps and dings - 'will my car fit through there? (CRUNCH) I guess not!' Technically this is still much safer than hitting a tree at 50mph without your seatbelt on (like I did..) As for age, it stands to reason the younger/less experienced you are, the more you should pay. I felt persecuted when I got my insurance, but then I had about 5 serious accidents that all resulted in cars being written off. Point proven. Humble pie eaten, I now enjoy a sensible premium again - having learned the hard way. I don't think it makes any difference if you are male or female. Reading the road and various hazards takes years to judge effectively and even then, we can all make mistakes. Life gets more expensive, it will always be this way - just think what our grandkids will be paying.. (or great, great grandkids for some of you old farts out there!)
  13. Tis a shame when it comes to this.. But at least it went out with a final Hoorah, dignity intact! You did all you could Baz, but like with pets you love, sometimes the kindest thing you can do is have them put down :2guns: RIP White (and red.. and pink) Zed
  14. Looks quality :tt1: I think its just a little too subtle really, but I do like that 'factory fitted' look. What it needs is a few more scoops and vents, then it would be mint. I also like the way the wheels haven't been spaced out either - giving it that retro look. I think I know the owner of this car, Mr Chav McTastic I think his name is. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so keep your eyes peeled for a guy with a white stick and a hi-vis labrador :1eye:
  15. Have to disagree with you here. When I first bought my car I was thinking of eliminating the Hicas too, I hadn't really considered why, I'd just heard some negative mutterings and thought it best to get rid of it. That was until I spoke to someone who knows these cars inside out. He pursuaded me to keep the system and give it a chance to impress - and it definitely has. I had to spend a few hundred quid replacing some of the parts with wear in them, but I'm glad I did. I've not driven a Zed without Hicas, but the way the car turns in at anything above 50mph is phenomenal. I havn't once pushed the front tyres into understeer, even in the wet. I'm a pretty committed driver, but in the dry the car has more ability than I have nerve - thats for sure. I don't think its a gimmick at all, I think that sells the sytem short. For a wide, heavy car it handles like a rugby player in ballet shoes. I would definitely recommend giving it a go. As for feeling funny when oversteering, I've not experienced that. 10 quid says I can keep drifting round a roundabout until I make you sick :whistling: Its only my opinion, but ask yourself why the system was developed in the first place :detective:
  16. Much appreciated, cheers :thumbup1:
  17. AH, the Monza - that was it :detective: A guy near my primary school had one, walked past it every morning and thought 'i want a car like that when I grow up'. Ended up buying an Omega, which wasn't exactly the same. I suppose the Monza was an early equivelant to the modern Monaros now - big naturally aspirated (not all, I know) coupes. Nice pics Jeff
  18. Hi all, Done a thread search on getting my turbos reconditioned but it seems most of the threads concentrate on the rebuild kits and who can balance them after. I'm not really interested in undertaking the task myself, but if the engine is coming out for a rebuild then it seems sensible to get the tubs reconditioned at the same time. Hopefully then, it should be like a new engine and not have to come out again. Is there a reputable club member or affiliate who recons turbos? Anyone know roughly how much this service costs? Or is it best to keep an eye on ebay and hope for a bargain on a new pair? Thanks in advance
  19. Spent £10k doing it up and then traded it in against a fookin Corsa? I know times are hard, but per-lease FFS. I hope it sells for 7-8k and makes matey boy realise trading it in for £2k against a Corsa was a bad idea  I remember always liking the opel senator too (import jobby), they looked like a slightly larger version of the gte. They actually made some pretty cool cars a few years ago. They might have struck gold again in the Insignia VXR - heard many good things about those. Retro cars are cool tho, especially now we can afford some of them. They never live up to your expectations though..
  20. So Melbourne is going to be the first race of the season and Bahrain will drop back to after the Dubai GP - great stuff. Really pleased Melbourne will be the first race, its always a good race there! C'mon you Brits (sorry Shrek!)
  21. Thank you all for your kind words. Didn't finish until nearly 10 o'clock last night  But did just manage to make the pub in time for a couple of drinks :duffer: Had about 4 hrs sleep last night :death: STill got a spring in my step tho! Thanks again, everyone
  22.:clap::biggrin: Well folks, after a few misreable months of woe I can gladly announce that I have a new job. I have literally been doing cartwheels around my site today - I'm so pleased I could burst! Last November I found out my present employers had effectively lost 95% of their business. Our company was a sub contractor to British Waterways and the vast majority of our dredging and bank protection work came from them. Every 5 years the contract was divied up between the 2 main protagonists and normally is was split 50/50. This time it all went to the opposition, meaning myself and about 30 other blokes would all be out of a job come the end of March. At least we had 4 months to get ourselves organised, many people don't get that benefit. Anyhow, without going into every small detail, I have managed to bag myself a job with a large international dredging company and I will start in April. Perfect timing. Not only that, but my first assignment will either be working in Abu Dhabi or somewhere in Russia - so it'll either be +40c or -40c, I couldn't give a monkeys to be honest: this is absolutely my dream job and represents a huge jump up the career ladder for me. All the hard work I put in has finally paid off. I will start as a Superintendent, which is more akin to a site foreman and hopefully work my way up from there. First I have to learn how a 35,000t cutter/suction dredger works, but that should be a doddle  Sorry for blowing my own trumpet here and being a bit self obsessed, but given the crappy few months I've had (engine failure not withstanding) I think I'm entitled to a little celebration. The really, really good news is, I'll be able to get my Zed back to full health a lot quicker - just in time for summer
  23. Thanks Alan, Already been in touch - Jimmer has been more than helpful. Although I'm a touched miffed with the car, the Zed is far too good to let her go to waste.. and it was probably my fault the engine damaged occurred on account of me being a complete doughnut (but the less said about that the better). A rebuild it will be, just need to sought the funds first. Cheers bud
  24. So, how do you get into the wardrobe? Up a flight of stairs (a la dorma bungalow) or up a ladder? I built a walk-in wardrobe for my missus, but as it was in the bedroom I had to just blend into the rest of the decor. If you've got a seperate room, surely you have a bit more free reign design wise? Whats the current bedroom theme? Modern minimalist or homely minimalist, or... what?
  25. Very novel - good luck with it, hope it takes off for you (and t'missus)
