600zx - Finally back to work....
Sorry to hear that nick sounds like you've been up and down this week.. I thought you were quite pleased with how things were progressing. Guess that's changed in the last 48 hours or so. Sounds like the tight engine and hot oil problems and low power output are all related - but I cannot see how that could be radically improved without stripping the engine and reboring the cylinders (or using smaller pistons). I take it it doesn't really like being left to idle either (ie allow it some time to run in)? The propshaft sounds like a relatively simple fix though, wouldn't a single piece shaft stop the knocking/distortion? Or have you already got a decent prop fitted? Buggered if I know anything about rocker covers though. :confused1: I'd be gutted too mate - perhaps you need a toys-out-the-pram moment, get a big hammer and hit a few things (not the zed though) then leave it for a few weeks. If I were you, I'd put some energy into your house again for a bit, something that will be rewarding, then see if you can drum up any enthusiasm for the zed. If not, then you can start breaking it. Just don't be hasty - you've invested too much time and money for a knee-jerk reaction. Take your mind off it for a bit and then see how you feel...

Okay, okay - I geddit, But I do agree with Steve J - there should definitely be an age limit - anyone over 25 should be forced to leave.. [gets up, picks up coat and leaves]

Lies I tell you - how many times has that happened?? Once... possibly. That's an extremely poor excuse for bad housekeeping. :hammer: You could just archive them if you're all nostalgic, my guess is though, its too much effort! :tt2:

Is anyone a domestic electrician?
My 3 bed semi cost 2.8k for a full rewire including as many sockets and lights as I wanted. Also a new fuse board/breaker panel which was relocated upstairs out of the way and two external motion lamps. Gave me about 400 quid discount because I paid in cash, I seem to remember. I thought it would cost about 700-800 quid. HA! My house was post-war so at least plastic had been invented then. The problem was the DIY idiot who had lived in the house before me. I kid you not, in the old fuse box was a plug socket, which had an extension cable run outside through a ventilation block - continued up the side of the house, back in through another ventilation brick and was then plastered into a wall. I ripped out the wire from the wall, until I came to and odd ceramic junction type thing which split it 3 ways to all the sockets in the bedroom. My electrician laughed when he saw that - then drew air loudly through his lips while shaking his head. I was completely re-decorating though (plaster, ceilings, floors - everything) so I didn't care how much the electrician butchered things - it also made their job a lot easier and quicker. If you're not planning to do this, then it could cost more.. I also got an NICIEC (?) certificate to say my wiring was safe - whoopey fookin doo!

Member's list
Been having a look through some of the dyno sheets in the members areas and trying to trace the owners and cars so I can see what mods they're running. But most of them are now just 'registered users' who havn't been active since 1832 (slight exageration perhaps). Should there not be some kind of automatic elimination of members after a certain period of inactivity? I don't mean send round a hitman with a silencer - but something that detects when people are no longer active members. I would say that 12 months grace is more than adequate for someone to log in once in a while. Its just that some of the best names have been hogged by people no longer associated with the site [struggles to find justification for requested action]. So c'mon mods - let's have a little spring clean and have a clear out. Bagsy membership number 007

Had A Look Round This Today [458]
F430 was a better looking car IMO, but you have to respect the performance of the thing. Depending on spec there about 200k - which aint cheap for the entry-level fezza (surely that's the California now?). Would still have a F40 any day of the week, over one of these. No electronics, no flappy paddles. Just a stick and 478 angry nags - yee haa mo fo Talking of F40's - just remembered you had one didn't you Sudesh - ever regret selling it? It's not the most valuable classic fezza, but its still one of the prettiest..

Yeah, good luck on that one! However much you think it will cost, double it and add another couple of hundred and you'll probably be somewhere close! Don't even get me started on plumbers! :pinch:

clayed before and after
Don't you just hate that.. :death: C'mon fess up - anyone else been out with the shammy after a shower, just to get rid of the bloody water marks again? My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts.. I do have a bit of OCD when it comes to cleaning though.. :detective: You really shouldn't need to clay bar it every weekend though - it'll be wearing the paint down if your not careful! That said, the first pic you posted the other day when you had done the door - I actually thought it was a chrome finish and that you really had got the Stella livery draped all over it. That was a really good sig by the way - whoever did that has talent!

first meal you cooked your other half
Lamb chops with roast potatoes and veg! Simple but effective.. much like myself! :tongue_smilie:

clayed before and after
A stella effort, If you use the right kind of wax it will seal all your hard work from the elements. So that when you wash it, you clean the grime off but leave the wax (or most of it), meaning you just need to keep topping up the wax and can leave your clay bar alone. Also beware of impurities in the clay - they can quickly turn into scouring pads if you're not careful. That looks fantastic though - could almost forgive you for your choice of motor when it looks that good! Almost.. Half a day is pretty good going too - just be glad you don't have the coupe!

Pick up my zed tomorrow!!!
Ah right, that one - thanks Yowser! Not the body kit I was thinking of, but still a very unique car! 22 years old and buying that kinda motor - I really wish I knew where my life went so wrong.. I had a bike until I was 25 AND I had to pedal on the bloody thing... Youth of today, eh! You be careful young man! :wheelchair:

Pick up my zed tomorrow!!!
Isn't your car up for sale Insanezed? Either that, or there is a very similar one on pistonheads.. Better check your missus doesn't have some home improvements planned!! Cheers
-
Midlands meet in May?
Yeah, they're even out on mondays, tuesdays, wednesdays.. then I realised it was just me driving 50mph quicker than everyone else! Its just that kind of road. Took the missus for a run in the Zed with the roof off, last summer on a balmy night, completely changed her view on the Zed and driving 'for fun'. Now she even asks to come with me when I go for a drive! Quality time with my true love (and the girlfriend can come too) - result! That big dip on the way into Tilton is awesome at speed - especially when everything compresses at the bottom - its just like a roller coaster! Have fun on Tuesday if the weather holds - hope to see you at some point this summer!

pads for R33 GTR calipers
Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade.. thats nearly 50mm more than standard, all that extra leverage must do something worthwhile. I'll bear this in mind.. Thanks bud

Pick up my zed tomorrow!!!
Is this a former members car - or was it advertised on a national website? I know what the pentroof bodykit looks like, but is this an actual tuners demo car? I'm excited, pictures please!

Squeaky Brakes
I spray WD40 on my brakes when they start squealing...

pads for R33 GTR calipers
sounds like a good deal Paul, How much bigger are R33 discs? Do they require a relocating bracket (calipers)? And how many pistons in the calipers? Can't help with pads i'm afraid - i'm still deciding what setup to run too... well done on the purchase

82" of 300zx.co.uk
I couldn't help but notice a suspicious looking bottle on the bottom left of the picture (presumably half full of moisturising/lubricating fluid). Wonder what other advantages viewing internet content on a screen that size can offer?

Midlands meet in May?
I wish I'd known about this! One of my favourite stretches of road is immediately after Tilton on the Hill, travelling towards Melton! I often make a long trip via the backroads via Kibworth Harcourt from Leicester - its a great run out! Once my engine is pieced back together and I'm back in the country (mid june time) then I'll be there! Can't wait to do a few Zed meets
-
what would you buy?
I'd save it for when something breaks.. which it will...
-
Have to take the Zed off the road.
Congrats bud, Hope to see more of you and your Zed at a few meets this summer - once I've got mine back on the road that is! well done!

Pick up my zed tomorrow!!!
I remember my first drive in my Zed, I bought the car in Scotchland then had a 450 mile drive back home, it was a bit of a sweaty palmed affair, but I didn't even think about the cost of the fuel - I was too busy laughing every time I put my foot down! Enjoy!
-
Uh Oh...
Grinding noises? Sounds expensive... :scared: Hope it is something simple though - fingers crossed bud

A few mods to make my car quicker
I'm currently in the process of choosing my engine spec - its due to be rebuilt by Jimmer, hopefully very soon. And all I can say is - pah. I've read so much stuff now I don't know what to believe. But, going on what you've already done, I'd agree with car mad that intercoolers and possibly injectors are the way to go. If you leave the turbos alone, the injectors will probably be fine, if you want a set of T28's running high boost, you will definitely need them to protect your engine. I would also guess that your mods are good for 350hp - that Cossie must have been a pretty tasty car! But to get to the 400 mark, I would get some intercoolers, an EBC then go and see Jeff at Zedworld, or have a word with Jon Dixon about mapping the engine properly for you. From what I can see, you'll either pay a few hundred for another 25-50hp, or you'll have to spend thousands to take it to the next step up. If I were you, I'd aim for 375 and feel pleased if you got more. Otherwise you'll quickly fall into the finacial black hole that is Zed engine tuning!! Be warned! :devil2:
