new toy
Awesome! I had one of these for about 2 years. Spent thousands on it - brakes, suspension, engine, sound system, wheels etc, etc. Then went to jack it up one day and the jack just pushed up through floor pan! Bloody tin worm :mad2: Sold it for next to nothing in the end. Having said that, I enjoyed every minute of owning it. Never driven a car that was so competent in the wet - I imagine its the same appeal as a scooby (from a different era, admittedly). Great car though. Bloody comfy too, those seats were like arm chairs! Enjoy it!

Yellow - Ashby Folville 12 July
Wasn't that car on sale in Birmingham for absolutely ages? Did he say how long he had had the motor? IE: had he bought it pretty recently, in the last 12-18 months?

So russian dating site then?
Trouble is, nowadays you have to get in there early. By the time they're 15 they're already pushing prams. There are probably quite a few nice girls left - but they probably wouldn't be interested in us!! The problem with eHarmony is that its reality based. Therefor you have to be realistic in what you can aim for! On the other hand, if you buy a bride, you can bag a trophy girlfriend who looks good on yer arm!! True, she might empty your bank account and disappear - but not many people think about the potential pitfalls when trying to pick a girlfriend 10-20 years their junior! Russian brides FTW!

No doubt he's on a final salary pension and can retire when he reaches 35 too - which is another reason we all have so much money going out each month..

My new shortie' TT
LOL.. I meant OUR Gary Wilson (moderator and owner of 2 stunning Zeds) I'm sure the Hi-Lux is a good en, btw. Talking of taking the car for a spin, I'd be interested to know how much of a difference it makes chopping a few inches out of the chassis. I never really perceived the LWB zed as being difficult to turn, so the SWB must feel like its bloody mid-engined! But also a little more difficult to catch when the back end breaks away??

If its all above board, go for it. Be a little wary if you start attracting interest from people who wouldn't normally look twice at you - they'll be gone before you can say British Passport  In other countries its perfectly acceptable for women to marry on the basis it will improve their children's life etc. I see every day over here. You're sat in a restaurant looking at some pot-bellied 50+ gent, who's clearly banging some 20+ Phillipino stunner. Admittedly they don't often look overly enthusiastic, but nobody forced them into it. Apart from their drug pushing pimps.. (joke). Check it out, consider it to be a scam until 100% sure its not. Make sure there is enough between you to keep the relationship going once the honeymoon phase is over. There are thousands of good looking Russain girls in Dubai - unfortunately most of them only work evenings and have a different boyfriend every night, if you catch my drift. But, I'm sure that there are many decent, genuine brides looking for a ticket out of the USSR. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - and lets face it, you're not getting any younger

Help
Evoluzion3 (Dave?), could be able to help. I'd offer to help myself but I'm out of the country. I'm Braunstone based (ssshhhh ) when I am about. I think Peachy is also in Leicester area, but think he has a N/A. Then there's Cov Rob, but he's a bit far away really, just to 'pop' over. Can you not take some piccies of what you need to connect?

No mention of Dolies in my mini rant - everyone falls on hard times, its just how quickly you get back up that counts. And, secondly, what kind of monster do you think I am? I didn't say bury them alive - thats way too risky - some of them might escape. No, what I'd do is torch them alive first until they were crispy, then chuck them in the hole. As for your plan of welfare reform - I completely agree. I still think it would be better to instantly reduce the population by 10-20% though. Just my opinion. Thinking about it more seriously, we could burn the fat ones in power station furnaces to generate electricity. Do they have petrol in hell? :devil2: Oh and as for getting compo, some people really do deserve - my mate was knocked off his bike and smashed his knee. Now he's only half the competitor he was before. Things like that can ruin your life completely though. Trouble is, it would be way to costly to asess all those claims accurately. The money you save on pay outs would simply go to consultants instead. Unless the system can be seperated from car insurance I'm pretty sure the problem will always exist. When you think about it, its impossible to make sure the people who deserve it, get it. While also making sure those that dont, don't. There isn't a moral compass for many people when it comes to money. But that's another can of worms altogether. Communism anyone?

anybody no this zed ??
Sounds like it needs sticking on Ebay as a '600bhp monster - just needs setting up' (and fecking rebuilding). All in all, its in tip top condition you reckon?

Epic Journey
That's the problem, With a small amount of smoke it could be any number of things. Best thing is to start saving for a rebuild/new engine. Then thank god if its only something simple to fix it! If it is something sinister it will continually get worse. I'd monitor the problem for a while before I stripped anything down..

Has that been written off? Looks like it would buff out with a good cloth!

SWB TT insurance, fully comp just £194
LYnbrooks do normal insurance too. I doubt you'd get a classic policy over 10 thou miles. On my Sierra they went upto 10k and then said I was taking the piss driving my 'çlassic' car every day. Some companies will argue the toss of what year they consider a classic to be, especially (if like the Zed) the production run covered many years.

I know what you're saying Stella, I'm inclined to agree. I think the only way forward in this situation is a mass social cleansing system. Basically, we round up all the scrounging, lazy, feckless, cheating scum and dig a very deep hole to bury them in. It really is THE only way to get society back in order. If you don't claim and somebody else does, you're just paying for the privelage of being honest. And Alan, you've clearly reached the point where enough is enough - I don't blame you at all. I just try to ignore it and carry on myself - then get really riled every time I actually think about it. I wonder if Brussels would object to my 'plan' ? :scared: Oh, and stop saying everything twice twice..

Epic Journey
That's some drive there fella, But you shouldn't sound surprised - it is what they were built for! Its only because there have been so many Zeds neglected or poorly maintained, that they have a tendancy to go bang. As for the smoke, I'd wait for the problem to get worse before I'd get too concerned. I think it would be difficult to find the cause until it get more symptomatic. You'll just have to start driving it a lot more often to find out (tough job I know)! Did you go via any autobahns?

How did you get a quote like that? were you holding a gun to their head? Lynbrooks wouldn't give me classic insurance on my Zed, I think it was because I didn't have a garage. And the fact that my neighbourhood makes Beirut look safe and quiet :gun_bandana: You keeping it in a garage or on a drive?

Tyre sizes
My rear tyres cost 50 quid apiece, have done about 7 thousand miles and look exactly the same as they did when I bought the car. They do, however, loose traction rather a lot when its wet.. :whistling:

Selling Advice wanted.
I've never regretted selling a car, Even when I sold my old Skyline, I knew it was to get something quicker and better (well that was the plan, anyway). I love my Zed and I've told myself I'm going to keep it another 3 years or so. Once I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on it, I'll stick it up for sale and make a massive loss, then buy something else and do the whole thing again! It makes very little sense financially, but there are a lot of cars out there. For me, the Zed is just a bit too wide to be a car you can really hustle - I can have just as much fun driving my missus' Clio at 10 tenths, than I can driving my Zed at 8 tenths (which is pretty much how it gets driven). The Zed is a great car, undoubtedly - but I'm beginning to think something lightweight and small (i'm thinking along the lines of an elise or caterham) makes much more sense when petrol costs 1.30 - 1.40 a litre. Its only my opinion, but if you fancy a change - indulge it. Life's too short to stick with the same choices. You wouldn't go to the same restaurant and have the same meal, every time you went out would you? Try something different. The best solution of course, would be to keep the Zed AND get something else, but its difficult to justify having 2 toys. But if you want a re-trim, manual conversion and engine rebuild, you're already talking about 6-8 thousands quids worth. That buys a whole heap of metal these days.

Finally Back at Work
That's awesome news mate, I'm sure many people can sympathise with your predicament. Congratulations - treat yourself on pay day (and to hell with the consequences!).

purple petrol eater
I remember that one, they wanted about 12-13k for it right? Very low mileage though. I'd have bought it if I had the cash spare.. (yeah, right!) Did it have a light coloured (leather) interior? Oh - and welcome to the club, Janus and Rose will be pleased with a bit of unleaded-pencil type talk! Now, where did I put my knitting patterns?

Black M6 Northbound near Cumbria/Lanc' border.
Jesus Christ, I bet the horses poo themselves when they see that pulling up!! Thought this was me for a minute.. until I saw the date.. and the towbar.. Then again, the speed I travel, most people wouldn't see me anyway!

more done
Looks like the bridge of the starship enterprise! Which is pretty damn cool in my opinion. I know some peeps don't like it when its all lit up like christmas, but I think the blue hue gives it a bit of cohesion. When I grow up, I want a car with a million buttons and flashing lights and lots of knobs to twist

the insurance debate.
Best thing is to try a comparison website. Enter your details exactly the same, but the second time make yourself a year older and see how it affects the price. I've just got a quote of 1500 for the missus to drive a RX7, when it costs 1000 for a 1.2 Clio. There is clearly a lot of science to insurance quotes that us average Joes just don't understand.. Or possibly they just make it up  It's funny how women have just been awarded more expensive insurance because of sexual discrimination (well they did want equality ), yet its perfectly acceptable to discriminate against someone because of their age. Go figure. The world is just full of bullshit.

My new shortie' TT
Congratulations on the purchase, I had a pipe dream about buying this SWB to go with my '95 LWB, but unfortunately we can't all be Gary Wilson types on here!!! Car was worth every penny of what Gonzo was asking, so the fact you managed to off load that soon-to-be-dead Hi-lux is even better (you did tell him about the bottom end problems, didn't you?). Enjoy it bud.

Silverstone GP
Well, like many of you I just finished watching quali, I say watching, by which I mean reading the text service - as the bloody BBC won't let you watch outside the UK.. :mad2: From what I could tell it looks like its all set up for a cracking race tomorrow - just had a quick check of the weather and it looks like there could be showers tomorrow, which should play into Mr Button's hands. Failing a British win, I wouldn't mind seeing Webber win again, after the Brit drivers he's gotta be one of the most decent blokes on the grid, I'd say. Anyone but Vettel basically, so the championship doesn't get decided with 5 races to go.. Well done to Di Resta also - sounds like a bloody good achievement sticking the Farce India on 6th just behind Button's MacLaren. Looks like I'm gonna miss another barn-storming race, having only managed to watch the Valencia race live this season (possibly THE most boring race of the season).. Hope you lot enjoy it!
