  1. I get what you mean with the price band bud, and yeah whilst on one-hand I think you can pick up a modern hot hatch which is better in nearly all aspects than a late 80's for half the money; they lack a certain appeal and character that can't be replicated; so I guess that's what you're paying for now - and I'm sure we all hope the values do increase! :-) Hell, it's a good looking and bad-ass car, it should be fetching good money by now
  2. Just to be clear I think the 300zx represents excellent value at the current 3-7k price range for an average to good import where performance and looks are concerned, its easily faster and better in nearly all aspects than an R33 GTST for example; but it does come with the expected heavy maintenance and repair costs. But irrespective of the 'deal' buyers are getting I don't forsee the prices rising much over the coming years.
  3. The Yanks are the primary factor in the price hike due to their 25 year rule. Three years ago you could pick up an immaculate fresh import low mile R32 GTR for 10k, now you're closer to 40k, the same goes for Supras etc. - But what happened to the 3000gt/gto and the 300zx? Well those were available in their top spec to the American Market so their prices haven't risen as sharply and aren't in much demand from Japan, despite traders' efforts to make it appear that way. They aren't as desirable and people wont pay the price tag that comes with the supra/skyline - personal opinions and technical comparisons of the marques aside. The UK's own little Jap-market has traders have ramping the prices of anything old and jap; pulsars are sitting on ebay and going up in value by 3k a year but guess what? They arent selling, im looking at a lot of the same cars advertised now that were advertised years ago by the same traders. Some punters buy into this and are willing to pay the outrageous price for a rusty shitty 200sx's, gtst's etc. I'm all for appreciating classics, but the problem is that these cars were great cars FOR their price band. They had their own charm FOR their price band. A £2000 crx SIR is a great little motor, cracking hot hatch and handles very well. But a £10,000 one with 8 further uk winters under its belt? I don't think it represents good value... and whilst gtr's/supras are iconic and a likely investment, the majority of the gran-turismo class aren't in the same league of desirability. I predict the prices will acctually drop again, because I can't forsee the public buying into the demand. The car's simply aren't worth it.
  4. Damn :-( so there really is no way around it other than to fix the speed signal problem? That sucks, but at least it saves me working toward a fix that isn't practical bud. - - - Updated - - - To be honest given the underbody rust situation I'm sorely tempted to ditch the 300zx altogether and put the running gear into my Laurel :-\
  5. Acctually found something about R32 GTR's as they have issues with the ECU changing the default PWM signals based on hicas removal etc. They suggest mechanical modification to the solenoid itself by 'shimming it' to the desired amount! I'm not certain this can be applied to the z32 but given it's a similar system I wouldn't be surprised... I'll take a shufty this weekend see if I can get something that works, could be handy for some folk
  6. Just thinking about a workaround for the common issue people have of the speed signal dissapearing causing interrupted PAS assistance (could be speedo cluster, converter, speed-sensor etc.); how can one go about stopping the speed-sensitive system. Even if it's something programmed within the ECU surely you can simply bypass the ecu and have a constant live on the pas pump? Anyone done this? I have GPS speedo I'm not really fussed on the needle working.
  7. Haha well you never know.. if something turns up I might be able to salvage something; it just put a nail in the coffin when the old slammed laurel acctually drove SO much better than the z32. It's no quicker obviously, but its just a dream ride for such a low cruiser. Not to mention insurance is 100 a year with all mods declared!
  8. So having a bad financial time at the moment and sorely tempted to break the 300 with the coup de grace being engine slightly overheating on idle... It could be something, it could be a thermostat but I just don't have the time at the moment to take it all apart to check. Now obviously in fairy land I'd love to keep it because it's gorgeous, I've spent a fortune getting the rarest parts around for it -Border FMIC, ganadors, the stunning EC-1 rear veilside spoiler being the only one in the country and being seriously desirable world-over. But knowing how few 300 owners there are willing to spend a good wedge of cash I can see it ending up being a massive loss for me breaking it :-( Im just not sure what to do... I picked up an '88 Nissan Laurel and its so much the better daily driver, it's comfier, gets more attention and still looks very cool. It's ridiculously slow but that's neither here nor there for me nowadays.
  9. There are a few nice skirts for the z32, stillen, twinz, genuine nissan 99 spec sides.. but they all cost a bloody fortune to get into the uk, and I mean a fortune! The problem then is, if you have skirts you need to get a lip for the front bumper, or replace the front bumper to sit it in line with them asthetically. I think as it is it looks lovely pal :)
  10. There's a guy with a veilside evolution exhaust on his green z32 in the uk, I saw it on FB marketplace about 5 months ago and asked him about it.. he won't sell it separate, but the car was dirt cheap.
  11. Difficult to maintain or do servicing on, but I wouldn't say overly complex in comparison to say, a UZZ32... that was very complex for it's time. The 3000gt/GTO is definitely a contender for overly complicated so they've got that right..
  12. Woohoo! :D I heard engines run much better with water in the sump too.. ;-) It's bloody hard to tell in rainy Scotland, so tomorrow (if it's dry) ill make a concerted effort to check there are absolutely no leaks on the outside. I'll take off all the undertrays and get my head under there. I'm really hoping it's not a headgasket or head crack etc. But to prepare myself for the possible worst case scenario how much will I have to dosh out?
  13. i can try that! I still don't get why you shouldnt be able to fill the radiator, I mean I've poured about 30 litres of water from a hose just as a tester and it refuses to fill, so it's 100% going somewhere lol
  14. I don't believe so the floor is completely dry underneath it and there's no signs of seepage. :(
  15. Yep. I've also had various gurgling noises from the dash-side once I turn the car off so some air is working its way through the matrix. I've spent a lot of time bleeding it with fans on/engine running etc. and it just refuses to bleed or fill up.
  16. I fear I'm acctually going to have to buy some of that UV dye for this job. My radiator will not fill up past 3/4 way, air bubbles stop it going any further - so the simple answer is there's a bloody great leak, and I guess the point it stops filling is at the very bottom of the top rad hose. I'm not sure if this is a common issue, but where am I likely to find the leak as I can't see where it's coming from out the bottom of the engine (again, this has me panicking it's making it's way down a cylinder bore). I'm going to be busy taking my thermostat off later as the car slightly overheated before I went back to Bulgaria, and I'm hoping to god this is the reason and not a head gasket. But just so I have a rough figure in mind, assuming no drastic damage has been done - how much would I expect to pay for a garage to do a head-gasket repair on a 300zx tt?
  17. Hi buddy yes! Im sorry I have no reception at my house it's a pain - can you email me please at dlongmu@hotmail.com ?
  18. God man that's beautiful, by far the best colour on any Z32.
  19. Hi Dave, could I please have dibs on this if you still have it available.
  20. The same information was available to us all, correct. But like nearly all political, corporate and financially-fuelled drives how much of that information was factual or truthful. We are unfortunately all the same and make our decisions blindly based on maticulously engineered bullshit. Call me a sceptic if you will, but I used to work for a global corporation who looked after the legal side and public relations for many, many household brands, high-ranking political figures and corporations. These clients pay serious money to have teams craft the truth, distort and hide the lies and bend the law for them on a daily basis so that the 'public' has a particular perception which could not be further from reality.
  21. Good afternoon all, I really would like an HKS superdrager single exit (or dual if that's all that's around), but I'm not seeing any up for sale on the interweb right now.. I know @Baz has one but not sure I could prize it out his hands :p Cheers, David
  22. In general terms shipping from America is cheaper than shipping from Japan by a considerable margin when it comes to weighty items unless you know a friend with a container. Secondly Ian Greenfields VIN works perfectly on the dealers system, just he typed CCZ32 instead of GCZ32 in his first post. Unfortunately just because Nissan makes them, it doesn't mean that Nissan UK dealers can order them - it's not that simple. A perfect example would be the 99 spec sideskirts. I haven't enquired about the gearbox but it would only take you 10 mintues on the phone to find out. Also I would it expect it to be horrendously expensive.
