  1. Is this going ahead tomorrow as I need to know tonight so that I can take the car up to the work in the morning and I dont have access to the forum at work.
  2. woop woop another zinger meal!
  3. It looks a bit daunting when you first check it out, but if take your time and dont rush it it isnt that bad. Was just worried when it was stated as an easy job you would just dive in. I served my time as a bus mechanic have worked on cars, trucks and buses, and would never class a Z's brake pipes as an easy job. Put it this way lots of people have had crazy quotes from run of the mill garages because they see it as too big a job and dont want to do it. Have a look at the work involved over the weekend, as stated it isnt as bad as it first looks. Exhausts off, disconnect the shocks and remove the 4 subframe nuts the frame will drop enough to gain access. There's always the forum to ask for advice :) Took me 2 days to do the job lying on my back on the drive, but then that included me making up the pipes and having to stop to go out for more pipe
  4. lol luckily I didn't drive the 20 miles, but I did stay back at work till half 6. got a bit peice and quiet with everyone else gone, so got some things cleared of my desk.
  5. Sorry Andy Iv'e already got plans made. Trying to sell a car and someone is coming tomorrow night to see it.
  6. " real easy job" ????? your Z must be a different design to mine! jenko If your doing all the pipes then you will need to drop the rear subframe a bit for access. Not a huge job but eats up a bit of time and it's still fiddly to get at the pipes and to shape them.
  7. I'm thinking about going away for a few days early August but not confirmed dates as yet, but if your up for the 2 weeks we should be able to sort something out.
  8. Sure can mate, we can arrange something, seeing as tonights meet kinda fell through. Stirlings just along the road from me. Are you going to be up working?
  9. Wish I had a camera tonight, it was a cracking meet, all those luvly Z's parked in a row......................felt like billy nae mates. Cheered myself up with a zinger. Thats the problem when I only have limited internet at work.
  10. lol not really the company image though :) Thats an interesting site, need to keep watching it
  11. Best jacking the car up and checking exactly which balljoints it is you require or go back and ask the tester. he could have classed either the inner or outer as ball joints. No point of purchasing and fitting the wrong ones
  12. Cheers mate, but when I go for one it will have to be an estate.
  13. Pimp Daddy here ah come! lol very tempting but the Z is supposed to be the toy if I bought a 300 then I'd be looking for something else as a daily! Plus all the druggies for miles around would be chapping my door looking for their next hit. Thanks all looks like I going to have a serious look at the merc as my next motor
  14. I love the look of them Alan.....they remind me of the Anthill mob :). But they do tend to go for a bit more than I want to spend at the moment, also merc oem spares will be far more readily available
  15. So who is still going then?
  16. Cheers for the info Jim, and your dads car looks very tidy, though if I do go for one i'll try for the marble dash trim as opposed to the wood effect. Good to hear about the reliability from someone with first hand knowledge, the E class is a definite contender :).
  17. But then In speaking to some of the BMW guys the E39 is a superior build to the newer gen cars. Plus I'm not a fan of the later model interior the Merc dash is way more classy, or am I just getting too old to keep up with new designs
  18. I'm toying with the thought of replacing my 530d touring as its getting a bit long in the tooth. I'm looking for another estate so that I don't have the dog clambering all over the upholstery, With the sensible head on I was originally thinking along the lines of Mondeo, 407 or possibly an A4 to give me the practicality of a decent sized car with decent fuel economy. However I keep getting drawn back to the adverts for Merc E class W211's, the interiors look lush, big and roomy and they have gadgets galore. They also seem to be good value at the moment with 2005 -2006 models available for about 6k to 7k. Thats a lot of car for the money. Has anyone had much experience with them, is there anything to watch out for and also what would be the best diesel model to go for. knowing me in 2 years time I will still be driving around in the beemer
  19. I need to get the rear tracking sorted out, Ive replaced the Hicas unit, swapped over an arm and fitted a different hub to the back end when I was doing the subframe. Been meaning to get the tracking sorted ever since but something else has always cropped up. I havent used the car much but noticed the one of the inside tyres has started to wear slightly. So before I use it again I will get it sorted out, it's booked in tomorrow morning before work.
  20. Struggling for tonight. Would have to come up in the beemer as a job needs doing on the Z before its driven any distance.
  21. The problem is youv'e only read the section that gives you the answer you wanted!. Look further down the information section and you will see it is not quite as simple. "Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an ‘E’ mark in a circle or an ‘e’ mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5. However, some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicle’s rear bumper with the indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable" Best having a look to see if you can clearly see the lamp from the above position before deleating the side repeater.
  22. When I was looking for a set of AEM filters I thought about using them, but at the time they were not listing the dry flo filters so sourced mine from the states instead. Looks like they are doing them now and the price dosen't seem too bad
  23. Not good at all mate, hope you get it sorted out soon
  24. So speaks a man with reason and a sensible head on..... does kind of waste it for those of us who have partaken of the grape the grain, who have now moved on to the malted stuff, and who were only after a little Friday night wind up and mischief to relieve the stress off another crap week :)
  25. lol And you are probably far younger than me anyway
