  1. Olefinic breakdown. The higher the initial octane, the faster the degradation is, and it is accelerated by Oxygen and Temperature. A 1/4 tank of high octane fuel in a warm climate will suffer Olefinic breakdown much faster than a Full tank in colder climates.
  2. My Slicktop has 42k, and I average 0 miles per year.
  3. Thanks Si, It definitely looks better than any other non bodywork colour, but I'd still prefer body-colour. I did plan to get the car up and running again, then send off to bodyshop. Hence paint engine bay myself beforehand
  4. Anyone have pictures of the Z32 engine bay in Black, with a non-black body colour ? I want to paint the engine bay when I pull the engine, and while Im 90% sure I will keep the body Bayside Blue, there is a small chance I could have a colour change. I dont want to paint the engine bay in Bayside blue, only to end up with a different exterior colour. So....Black engine bays, probably like a satin black ?
  5. Thanks Si ! :cursing::slap:
  6. Happy Birthday mate :thumbup:
  7. Happy Birthday John. Whats the news on the 500ZX ?
  8. Thanks Rich. So far just various lasercut and CNC machined replacement brackets and mounts. Currently working on shorter 2.5" Aluminium Intake pipework with Vertical Flow Intercooler core and then a lightweight 3" turbo back Inconel Exhaust system with integrated X-pipe.
  9. Thanks. Really well, best decision I ever made :D 2.5years in now, promotion to Lead Engineer with my own team. The hours can be killer, especially early in the year around the F1 testing period.
  10. - Removed the Camshaft gears, backplates and Camshafts - In preparation to Strip down and rebuild all 24 Lifters. - Removed Headlights , Bumper bar and various unused brackets and hardlines in preparation for Engine bay overhaul.
  11. Designed myself, but fabricated and welded at my work.
  12. Near Witney. Motorsport Valley :)
  13. Moldy and covered in spiderwebs like an Indiana Jones film set ! No permanent damage thankfully, going to strip it all out and clean it up.
  14. Shorter 2.5" Aluminium Pipework, Dual Intake (relocated under headlights), and a custom Vertical Flow FMIC relocated further inboard.
  15. Weighed this little lot of Intake parts thats not going back on, for a "old vs new" comparison. 20.3kg - 2.1kg box = 18.2 kg :ohmy:
  16. Well life took very much a downward turn a couple years back and I had pretty much given up on it all. But after not even seeing the car for 2 years I had her transported the 100miles to me last weekend. Project Slicktop is 100% back on ! :hyper: Unfortunately, having been sat under a cover a few years its not in the condition it was left and its turning into quite the restoration project now. It was previously waiting for paint, and while the body is still good there is quite a lot of engine corrosion. I have the top end stripped down. Parts are being shot-blasted and powder-coated as we speak and I have a growing shopping list of new parts to order. Every bolt, hose, bearing and wiring loom is being replaced. I'm probably going to pull the engine now too, which will allow me to to check the turbos/wastegates/clutch..etc and do some additional work to the sump and engine bay. Its frustrating as it feels like Im taking backward steps with the car, but it is allowing me to do jobs (and upgrades) I couldn't do the first time. I've been designing a whole load of new parts that will be getting made over the coming weeks.
  17. A Diesel people carrier will be far more sell-able than a Large engined petrol Bmw. Everyone wants Diesels these days and a MPV will attract a hell of a lot more buyers. The 5series is one of the best cars ever made, but has a far more limited market and even then everyone wants the 530D, not the 528i.
  18. I particularly like its Exhaust system and the custom press moulded specialist heat shielding thats going on it.......rumour has it that whoever designed those bits is a genius...and really good looking.......and amazing in bed :whistling:
  19. Yeah, he still has it. Although Its off the road again currently for some major engine work.
