Whats it worth?
Prices vary, but Manual SWB TT's tend to go for anything from stupid momey like £3.5k up to £5.5k in standard'ish form. Its a 89 so £4k - £4.5k would be a fair price IMO in todays market, depending on condition. It would be worth taking another zed enthusiast along who knows what to look out for too.

Had look at the Supra.....Z needs sorting.
It must of been a different seal. The rear main seal is the seal inside the bellhousing, between the flywheel and engine. (thats not a great description). Floppy gear lever - - gearstick bushes. The Parts are only a few quid, available from MJP, although a fiddly job to replace. Instructions : http://www.ttzd.com/tech/bushingstech.html

Impossible. He either dropped the gearbox, or he did'nt change it.

De-cat with standard turbos
Evidence seems to show that when you decat and get smoke it was becuase the Turbo seals were already gone and the cats were hiding it, or they were just about to fail and the backpressure loss was the final straw. The difference in performance/response is very noticable with a decat, and while most have not had any problems. some have. Replacing the cats with something else restrictive would be pointless. You can get Performance cats, but they are expensive. Will give slightly better response, but could also give just enough less backpressure to cause the turbo seal problem anyway. Its all or nothing Im afraid.

Lighting Problem (nearly crashed)
Yep, round = Dipped. Rectangle = High Sidelights (in bumper) always on when you have Dipped or Full on too. It could possibly be becuase the lens is so dirty. Common problem, which makes owners believe Zed headlights are far poorer than they actually are. They all get dirty inside and it makes a massive difference. Once taken apart and cleaned that are comparable to most cars. H.I.D conversions are still a great upgrade though, but you still wont see the true affect without taking apart the headlight and cleaning them.

popping / backfiring occasionally at low revs
Best bet would to get your car on a Conzult or datascan. Could also be o2 sensors,Coilpacks, fuel pressure regulator

Auto or manual boxes???
As Royal mentions the Autobox is the weakpoint in the zed once they get to high mileage or high power. The Manual boxes are very strong, one of the strongest out there (with only a rare problem with syncro's going in 4th gear causing a crunching noise). Plenty of 600bhp+ zed's running with stock Manual boxes.
