LOL... taken out of context.. cheeky... i.e. there is no code on the chassis number to tell the age.. you just either have to know or have the list to compare to or ask at the dealers.. Oh, and you're not letting on how you did it!!??

like I said in my previous post... all those things can be changed, bumpers, seats, mirrors, interior.... the vin plate (and number stamped on the fire wall) is the best way to confirm.

AND... not to forget the vin plate... the JAP (Imports) have Chassis numbers that aren't the same coding as the UK spec and so you can't tell the age of the car from the Chassis number. the VIP plate will be in English, Spanish (looks like Spanish) & Japanese. The only way is a direct comparison with list of cars made in what year... http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.79 this is also useful information (also in the FAQ's on here) but all these parts can be changed easily (or tags cut off).. http://www.300zx.org.uk/import_dating.htm

urgent help
Ah... the plot thickens..... so I can assume the timing was done correctly with a light, and set to 15? I don't think there is an easy way to see if it's slipped a cog, but since it won't start I'd be worried. I guess you just have to go over everything fine a fine tooth comb, maybe some loose earths, connectors not in right, blockage in the fuel line..

Electrical issue?
Hey Jeff, can you confirm if the the same coloured relays are interchangeable?
-
Something is broken...
I won't be back in Cardiff until next week but could bring up my conzult and put in on your car then... also if you find one cylinder that doesn't seem to be working, pull out the coil and plug and check for spark on the plug. by the way the two at the back are a ping because you have to remove the balance bar. there are measurements you can do on both the coil pack and injectors (in the Service manual) to check them.

Electrical issue?
check them, the ones the same colour are the same (I'm sure, but good to get a second opinion).... move them around or take/swap one form the engine bay fuse box, see if the problem moves as well..

urgent help
you need to get a volt meter on the battery and if you manage to get it going again measure the voltage from the alternator. have you done the usual connector checks, with all this wet weather there are bound to be some corroded connections... (lol.. beat me too it..) :) I think the cat sensors can be disconnected (if that will make any difference) ... and you have checked all three fuse boxes? when was the last service, fuel, air filters, plugs? there are checks in the Service manual to check the coil packs and injectors..

Something is broken...
agreed.... you could try unplugging everything you can find, "one at a time" and check the connectors, clean if dirty / corroded. make sure you do the MAS as well ( in the nose cone), easy to get to only two bolts hold the panel on... check each coil pack by disconnecting them to see it find what cylinder isn't working (if that is the problem). you could also try running it with the MAS unplugged to see if its any different. start with that and see what you find. where abouts in Wales are you?

Knock sensor question
This may be a silly question, but have you checked to make sure it isn't a valid error?

Electrical issue?
Hi, I also found it easier if you undo the bonnet release cable... (another two bolts)... when doing this also check the earths/ground. I think the same coloured relays are interchangeable, and I'm sure someone will have some spare on here....

A strange noise in the rear
agreed... but you really don't need to ask if you should take them back... I'd say that's a given.... and like I said good luck...

No gears?

Engine year
yeah, that would make sense.... but I had a quick look and couldn't work it out... anyway this is what I found from the online parts catalog: (no idea how correct it is or how this helps.... lol) Bare engine part numbers (only European cars listed): Europe right hand drive TT 90 Jan – 94 Jan 1010240PC0, Alt - 1010240PR0 Europe left-hand drive TT 90 Jan – 93 Dec 1010240PC0, Alt - 1010240PR0 94 Jan – 94 Sep 1010240PA0, Alt - 1010240PR0 94 Oct – 96 Aug 1010250PE0

Engine year
but wouldn't you need to know the part number? and what part number would you need to know? I know there is a serial number but that be any good? It certainly doesn't give you the option of the parts page to put in an engine SN number. A guy on the Oz forum asked the same question recently, it was general consensus that it couldn't be done... or at least was very difficult... if someone can work it out, I'd be most impressed and would also let them know how to...
-
another add, this time from Oz...
MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, what colour is yours ???
-

lol...

Engine year
I don't think it's possible to tell from what year... however I understand that there are differences between the Series and that can give you a round about age... unfortunately you'll have to wait for someone with that knowledge to come along and reply... :)
