New Tps found cheap online......
Not to worry anyone but the pic of the TPS doesn't look like the one fitted to the Z32 ... Could just be a stock photo but caveat emptor ...

Melting LED sidelight bulbs
I've been supplying the 6000K/1W LED bulbs for over two years now and only ever had two customers come back to me and say that their bulbs melted. In both those cases the cause was traced to faulty electrics which caused the LED to overheat and subsequently melt and fail. Having spoken to my supplier about this issue a number of months ago I was informed that in 90% of the cases the fault is due to irregular voltage supply to the bulb holder. Only in 10% of the cases was it due to there being a manufacturing fault. HTH Dan

ABS with bigger brakes?
In very simple terms the answer to the original question is Yes. HOWEVER, .... The modulation frequency of the brakes that the ABS ECU uses is optimised for the stock brake setup. If you have larger discs and calipers then the modulation required for effective braking is different. This is why you will often find that cars with bigger brake setups tend to lock up the brakes under heavy/emergency braking. This point was made clear at ZedFest two years ago when a Dutch acquaintance of DTA-Motosport drove into the back of his fellow Dutch companion in a line of traffic. Speed was not above 20mph and an emergency braking manoevre locked up the front brakes causing him to skid into the back of the other Zed. The skidding car had 378mm APRacing discs and 8-pot calipers ... Being completely honest with you, I am unsure as to whether the ABS ECU can be altered to take into account fitment of larger brake systems. Something I need to make some enquiries about. HTH Dan

pic of H.I.D. xenons difference from Dan @ DTA motor
The ones for the GTO were the H4 Bi-Xenon kit which retails at £125.00. For the 300 you'll need H3's which I retail at £91.00 per set plus £8.85 postage. So total cost is a smidge under £100! Installation is very straight forward. Pull out the old bulb, insert new HID bulb, secure new bulb with spring-clip, connect bulb to ballast, connect bulb to headlight wiring loom (two spade connectors) and the job's done! :) I sell the kits with ZX-specific installation instructions but you can always call me if you get stuck. Kits that I have available are H1, H3, H4 Bi-xenon, H7, HB3, HB4 - so if you have any other cars then I've got the kit for you. Only caveat is that cars produced after 2001 (like saabs, mercs, bmws, etc) will require our "Ultimate" kit as that kit doesn't interfere with the in-car lighting ECU. Just today I sold a kit to a Porsche customer (2006 Cayenne Turbo S) and the Ultimate kit is a straight fit! If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me. Regards, Dan PS - more HID info available on http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/hids.php

Replacing Brake Hoses
There are no existing pre-moulded kits out there so you'll need to have them custom fabricated. If you do a search you'll find a few topics regarding doing the DIY. Regards, Dan

ECU diagnostic reset...
True - 30~60 minutes will do the trick although this doesn't clear the self-learn parameters which can only be reset by using a ConZult, etc.

How free-flowing are the Zs airbox inlet tracts and the airbox itself
Hi Si, Yes, two panel filters required - I'd recommend either K&N or A'PEXi. If going for a pop charger I can not recommend A'PEXi highly enough - superb filtration qualities and high flow rate. A'PEXi filters (both panel and cone) are dry-type filters and can be washed in water to clean. No oiling required unlike with the K&N filters. As you know, I can get both cone and panel A'PEXi filters. The cone filter costs £62.50 plus p+p and I need to check on the panel cost as I don't get asked for these very often. Regards, Dan PS - I've seen some stock air boxes with holes drilled in to them to increase the air intake ... Not too sure on the effectiveness of that though ...

NGK plug question
In true Bob-the-builder-stylee, "Yes, you can!" :) I'll put your name in the order book for a set of PFR6B-11B's and let you know when they've landed with me. All the best, Dan

NGK plug question
Hi Simon, Yes, use the NGK PFR6B-11B plug when you're upgrading your boost. If you're interested, I've got a few sets coming into stock in about a week's time - I can reserve you a set if you like. NB - the 11C plugs are primarily used for cars running stock boost and no further upgrades other than perhaps an induction kit. HTH Dan

Diagnostics for the Z...
Hi Joel, First of all - no, it is not possible to convert a OBDI car to OBDII. Completely different protocols and interrogation methods. Secondly, why would you want to convert? There is no benefit to it as the car's sensors and ECU won't handle the data streams. As far as I'm aware none of the Z32's were OBDII as it wasn't a requirement in Japan (unlike in Europe). I could be wrong here but it would surprise me if it was changed. When they brought out the Z33 they switched to a new protocol that was different yet again to OBDII. HTH Dan

What a Different HID's are...
Our ultra bright LEDs (see http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/bulbs.php - item BLB014) are colour matched to 6000K HID kits. Have plenty in stock at the moment so let me know if you want a set. Regards, Dan

H3, H3c, H3u
Glad to hear it all worked out! :) Further to your post above, from the picture you posted it appears to be a 4300K 9006 bulb (these are commonly found in US-Spec Zeds). HTH Dan

How do HID`s work in a UK Z with the sidelights...???
On most UK Zeds with dip-dim there isn't enough power to ignite the HIDs when you're only running your side lights. The HIDs will only ignite when you turn the headlights to dip beam. Murt - the leads I provided you with are specific to UK Zeds. These use a spade and bullet connector as opposed to two spade connectors in JDM Zeds. HTH Dan

110 degrees
Yes. The composition of oil depends on the temperature it is. I don't know enough about oil to say with 100% certainty but at a certain (high) temperature the oil will change composition and start to burn and degrade. You don't want that sloshing around the enginee. Again, I'm not sure whether 110C is high enough for that. As for any potential damage - it is possible but if the high temps were only for a short period of time the damage may be limited. I'd keep a close eye on coolant levels and also whether any bubble are appearing in the coolant. That's an early indication that the head gasket is gone. HTH Dan

Looking to replace all the bushes at the front
James, Poly bushes are not inherently stiffer than stock rubber bushes. It just appears so because they replace knackered bushes. Depending on what you need I can get Energy Suspension bushes for all the suspension parts. I would need to know which bushes you want to replace and whether you've already got uprated suspension components (like adjustable upper arms, tension rods, etc). Price is dependent on composition of the kit but I can certainly give you a quote if you let me know what you need. All the best, Dan

coolant hoses
Well, you win some, you loose some. I've had Autobahn silicone sent to me with parts (boost hoses and various couplers) and they were of very poor quality. More rubber than anything else. However, to the best of my knowledge the Autobahn silicone hoses are only 2 or 3-ply max which will go soft and squidgy over time causing all sorts of cooling problems. Try this little test: go for a spirited run in the car until it is good and hot. Open the bonnet and rev the engine. 9 time out of 10 you'll see the boost pipes (and coolant pipes) collapse in on themselves. That's not a good thing by the way ... In any case - I'm willing to accept that some silicone parts sold on ebay are decent. However, experience has taught me that the majority isn't worth the price you pay for it.

coolant hoses
 It is not slander when you have 100% undeniable proof that ebay silicone (which mostly originates in China) is in fact less than 13% silicone. BTW "slandories" is not a word - slanderous is. ;)

I Wantttttttt A FERRARI!!!!!!!!!
Yeah - I apologise for knocking the MR2. If it is nicely sorted with engine and suspension mods it's a very nice car to drive. Sorry

coolant hoses
Sure can! ;) I supply stainless steel top and bottom coolant hoses. Also do the full silicone hoses. The hard pipe kit is made from mirror polished stainless steel and comes with silicone couplers in either red, blue, black or yellow. The fully silicone hoses can be had in either red or blue only. Contrary to what you find on eBay our hoses are a minimum of 4-ply silicone with an additional liner to give the hoses structural integrity. Most of the eBay crap is not even silicone, despite what is advertised, and will soon perish. Prices (excl. postage): Stainless steel top & bottom coolant hoses: £140.00 Silicone top & bottom coolant hoses: £99.00 Lead times on these is approximately 10 days for the stainless steel kit and upto 28 days for the silicone kit. I also do a matching set of intake pipes in stainless or silicone. Let me know if any of the above appeals. Regards, Dan
