Help Required, ECU for gearbox
Med Man, sorry Eng Cont fuse is okay. Looks more and more likely the ECU, unless i'm unlucky enough to have TWO gearboxes fail in a row, mind you, that wouldn't be unusual for me, my X5 gear box lost its D capability (only used tripttonic) and its replacement (my current car) a BMW 330 ic conv has lost reverse. I guess i'm just lucky. Rich

Help Required, ECU for gearbox
Hi Guys, have a little problem, my zed is finally back together but i still have the problem of the gearbox not getting past 2nd. Some of the finger pointing has been at the Gearbox ECU. The Car is a NA Auto, the box got swapped with a TT box, ( lectures later) So what i'm after is a Zed owner nearby who wouldn't mind "lending" me his ECU whilst i take it up the road for a test. I suppose na or TT prob wouldn't matter just to prove a point. Now i live just south of cambridge, in a village called Meldreth, so i'll let you make the decision whether to come or not. Many Thanks Rich

If I were subscribed I would put it in the "for sale" section myself, however finances dictate otherwise at the moment.

Help with Boot
Hi Guys, Need some help. Whilst checking out the boot, I've noticed that after pulling the release lever, and going around the back, the boot wont open, I have to go back and wedge open the lever, go back, and then the boot lifts. If I use the key and lift whilst it is turned, the boot will lift. One thing that bugs me is that when using the lever or the key, there is no "click", which I would think is the lock releasing. So, is there something wrong with the mechanism,? I've taken off the lock and looked at it and it seems to operate ok. it even clicks. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Rich

What is this part called...
Hi guys, On the instrument cluster cowling, it holds 2 separate, i call them "Foil Inserts". They have bulbs behind them to illuminate warnings, They are left and right of the steering wheel. one sheet is 3 squares long (3 x 1) the other has 6 (2 x 3) . Here is an example below from mine I need to know what they're called to search for them as the other side is the wong one Regards Rich

Auto Gearbox problems
Groover, on the big picture above of the dash, it shows 4 instrument lights top left above the speedo and top right above the rev counter, on my dash, i dont have these in this position. When i dismantled my dash and shone a light, i saw these instrument lights When i activate the OD switch the Mission oil light comes on and when i place the A/T hold switch in hold, the Diff oil light comes on. The biggest problem i have is i dont seem to have a AT Power indication light, which means i am unable to carry out a diagnostic.. Jeff, if you have any input on the different dash's that are used, please shout. And if anyone has any more suggestion as to why i'm stuck in second, please help. regards Rich

Dash warning lights
Andrew, great info for the circuit diagrams, v useful. thx. Med Man, thats a great bit of info, never seen that link before . If you look my year, 300zx '91 it doesn't show the instruments i'm looking at, it has them in the description, but doesn't show a diagram, i'm chasing this on my other thread, you might be interested following it there. MM, have you got that red zed that has more chrome that its possible to put on a car, i've been away for a while so lost track of any changes? http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?175271-Auto-Gearbox-problems Thanks Rich

Auto Gearbox problems
Graham, Thanks mate, if not for finding the english translation... however i'm still trying to nail down these areas, Dave Zed says he hasn't a clue, as you probably dismantle more dash units than any one else, i thought you might have a clue.

Auto Gearbox problems
Jeff, Hi Again. Thanks for the info, much appreciated, Checked the rev lights, they came on, Also checked fuse, it was okay. The Torque Conv was also changed as my car is a NA auto and I used a TT autobox, I know, I can hear you cringing from hear.... sorry but I had to do it. I had a look at your self diag link, great, however, which light is supposed to flash? and where is the A/T light supposed to be that lights up? Hope all is well Regards Rich

Dash warning lights
Hi, this may sound stoopid, but can anyone point me in the direction of a diagram showing the warning lights on the dash, both sets, the ones under the dials and the 2 sets either side of the steering wheel housing. The reason i say stoopid, is that i have been searching the net all f***ing day and the closest i have come is a big diagram in japanese.. I need it to see if it shows 2 warning lamps called mission oil and diff oil which come on when i put the overdrive off (out) and the A/T rocker switch on hold??? Rich

Auto Gearbox problems
Hi, just Got the car back up and running after a gearbox change, previous box showed signs of internal damage ie intermittent gear selection problems, but what ever the problem it would never get out of 2nd. At the time i never checked fuses, Gearbox ECU etc.. i was told the box needed changing and took it on faith. However , now the new box is installed (which was taken on faith yet again it was fine) when i took it out for its first run, it would only use 1st and 2nd in D mode. i have recently had it pointed out that the problem might be external to the box ie the fuses, Gearbox ECU, etc... So i have found out how to put it into diag mode, which i will try soon and give the results, i found this site http://z32.wikispaces.com/Automatic+Transmission+Diagnostics which looks great anyway in case anyone hasn't found it yet. i know where the Gearbox ECU is located but need to know if the GB has any fuses that blow and if so where are they I cant think of any other issues that might affect the smooth running of the box but again, if anyone knows better please advise. Another question, when i press the overdrive? button, a light illuminates on the RH set of warning lamps called "MISSION OIL" (i think it means transmission oil) has a wire gone astray? have i somehow got a rogue dash unit. Kind Regards Rich

Neil, re our phone call i'll get back to you.. Redwine, hi. Fluid Level is good, As for a clogged filter... well if you tell me how to find out, i'll tell you.... Im going to look at fuses of gearbox ecu and any fuses that have blown, Also i'll dig out how to get the diagnose codes and see what they say, If it does turn out to be one of these, then its possible the original box was okay...whoops...
