  1. I saw a post recently about a quick solution- Only connect the bulb/HID+ to the connector socket that goes +12V. Wire the 2nd bulb spade/HID- to ground permanently. The only potential downside is drawing too much current when both lamps are on- the solution linked above is a bit more elegant, but also more complicated. I'm going to try the quick version soon, unless anyone posts up with any problems they had! :) Mark PS the basic problem comes from the fact that in the Z either bulb is on, so when you flash your lights the HIDS do some quick power cycles, which is damaging to them, not so much that the electical load is too great.
  2. Out of interest, how do you know if your car is fitted with the dim/dip control unit or the daytime light control unit? I imagine mine's fitted with neither being a '90 Jap but I wuz just wunderin... Mark
  3. Things outside anyones control can take over- it's a shame and frustrating but I presume your insurance will refund any costs. I've been to both Nepal and South America (Peru to be precise) and had fantastic holidays both times. True, there are dodgy places in the world and travel firms have a duty of care not to let people go to areas where bad things could happen. It's a question of just taking it on the chin and sorting out your next break! But there are some fantastic things to see out there- personally I find an "adventure" holiday more rewarding than beach holidays. Good luck sorting something else out! Mark

Not the most flattering for her but, well, you get the point! ;)
  5. I'm pretty sure a few people have those internal ariels that are taped around the windscreen... supposed to work quite well.
  6. I haven't read every thread in detail on the Miss Z comp, but how about the top 12 have their photos taken (professionally?) with their better half's Zed, for next year's calendar? :)
  7. LMAO actually something like that, yes- it was a wartime murder mystery thingy. She did it too! I never knew she had it in her. Note the carefully modelled Roberts radio, crafted by our own fair hands out of cardboard and tin foil :)
  8. Presenting... Miss Mark W We were going to a themed party in fancy dress. Nothing to do with role-playing at home... ahem...
  9. Got the honk on my J-spec- had it before I did any mods too. You missed one of the solutions though Steve- accelerate through 4000rpm as fast as possible! :D
  10. Stopped off this evening to fill up with Optimax. Everything seemed ok- pulled out down the road. Changed 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd fine. Then I went to change to 4th, and it just didn't want to engage. So I changed down to 2nd, back to 3rd, went for 4th and had the same problem! Started thinking about the clutch- only had it about a year, and even if it was screwed could it prevent higher gears from engaging whilst allowing lower ones? Seems unlikely so I discounted that. Which only really leaves the gearbox itself. ... Had one more go, with a bit more force and heard a strange kind of soft crack. Then I looked down and realised that after I bought a cream egg at the garage, I'd placed it on the gear-stick gator while I put my seatbelt on- the mashed remains were squidged between the stick and the transmission tunnel LOL  :slap: :headvswal Then a roundabout came up, which sent the sorry remains scooting across the passenger seat leaving a trail of cream egg entrails. Stoopid me...

I may well be in the area early afternoon; if I am I'd like to drop in! :hyper: Might not work out that way, so don't hang around at all, but please could you let me know: 1) what time you are meeting at J47 2) when you're moving on 3) where's mumbles?! (multimap would be good) Ta muchly, :D Mark
  12. Me neither...
  13. Sounds a bit odd that. Mind you, do you remember the problems Ford had with their cruise control in America? It had a very occasionaly tendancy to engage without driver input and floor the throttle- because it hadn't been activated by a normal route, the logic to disengage it wouldn't work, and IIRC a few people died in the resulting accidents... The only way around it was to turn off the ignition, then turn it back on. Mind you in those cases a chunky V8 could well burn out the brakes- not sure about a 1.8 in this case...
  14. True they'll put it up eventually, but the recent petrol price hikes have ignored LPG to a point and it's behind the curve (when my girlfriend had her car done it was about 80p/41p, and now it's more like 90p/43p- she made her money back after 9 months) It's worth considering; I reckon it'll take about 2 yea rs to pay off on 5k miles a year, but you will lose passenger or boot space. I'll never have it done as it's a lot of money to invest in a car that could easily have one of a number of equally expensive things go wrong. It would be interesting to see someone do it though! :)
  15. Not the busiest Reading meet, but a good turn-out considering. 5 300s in the end, I think? Ryan- that was a long 30mins! I had to head off before you turned up at the pub, if you turned up at all! Good to meet up with everyone else- bit nippy out though wasn't it?! And cheers to sideshowbob for letting us know in the first place :)
  16. Ooo nearly missed it! I'll try, but I'll have been down in Hastings all day so it depends on knackeredness and traffic. Mark
  17. The theory (that I picked up from here!) is that the speedo signal's first port of call is the clocks, and from the clocks is sent on to the ECU. The ECU varies the amount of power steering and when the rear wheel steering kicks in (and out) according to the speed you're going. If you interrupt the signal going to the clocks using a converter, the chances are you'll therefore also be affecting anything else downstream (perhaps there are ways around this, which ChrisC is alluding to? I'm not sure- I've never attempted to wire a converter box in!). The sure-fire ways to avoid this altogether are a) buy UK clocks (I did that eventually) or b) do the resistor mod to the speedo PCB (which I did first, before screwing up my clocks trying to put speedo rings on, also mentioned above LOL :slap: ) However, LOADS of people use converter boxes without any problem. Any of the ways mentioned will give you the right end results- but UK clocks have to be the most elegant solution, and if you're not too technically minded it's also the easiest :)
  18. Ah, you mean that site that everyone links to with the video clips? Now why didn't I think of that?! :slap: :headvswal Cheers bud!
  19. Dunno if anyone can help me here- I want to put some pics and vids on the web- I’ve had a look at PhotoBox, but it only supports pictures. Do you know of anywhere that also supports vids, or is just storage space? Most importantly, it has to be FREE! Ta muchly, Mark
  20. It works! Hilarious!
  21. FWIW, with similar mods mine made: 269 RWHP 325 FWHP 270 RWFtLb 330 FWFtLb Differences being 12 PSI and with my knackered cats still in place.
  22. Aye caramba, I'm a bit behind- I didn't know they had got so far with the Vulcan! Hats off for getting this far and more hats more off when it flies! Spit and Hurricane- great aircraft. And don't forget the Mosquito- saw the last airworthy one fly a month or so before it crashed- great shame that :(
