  1. Before you start pulling it apart get a garage to test the pressure with a proper mechanical gauge.
  2. And if you have broadband remember that the speed is asymetric (eg ADSL = Asymetric Digital Subscriber Line), so while you get 500Kb download, you only get about 128Kb or maybe 200Kb upload. So once more than a couple of people are accessing it then they will get sh1te performance. Also, many of the broadband contracts forbid hosting services on the client end.
  3. Well this is why I originally started my site, just to bring some order to all the information out there. Although, I have written very little content myself and no FAQ's as such. (Why duplicate what other people have done so well?)
  4. Well at least its now 3 letters, used to be 4 or 5 I think, but I brought it down to 3 because of the vast number of TLA associated with Zeds !
  5. Only if you take into consideration the domination and exploitation of the rest of the world (we called it the British Empire), but I don't think we'd get away with that anymore, although the US seem keen right now ! LOL
  6. I find it a little tiresome but you have to give new people the benefit of the doubt, otherwise they won't come back. Anyway, SRRAE posts on every item anyway, so most of us don't need to do anything ! ;) LOL
  7. Interest rates would probably drop which would make your mortgage considerably cheaper, some of the UK taxes would have to be brought into line with European ones, so booze could be cheaper and it would make it very much easier to do direct comparisions of prices between us and other member states, so price competition is likely to increase, giving potentially better deals. Still don't want to join though ....
  8. Idle adjustment is decribed on this page :- http://home.swipnet.se/e-solutions/IdleTech.html
  9. There's some bloody funny posts on that forum, great to see that Mycroft didn't just waste his religious fervour on us ! lol Actually, I know someone with a Soarer and he LOVES it. Seems OK to me, just a bit lacking in style that's all. Not really a sports car, just a cheap Merc like all the other Lexi.
  10. Just done a bit of research for you and this is what you need to do to uninstall. (Don't forget this in XP and some W2K installations only) :- [*]In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs. [*]Click Change or Remove Programs. [*]Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) Q811493 (or Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493), and then click Remove. [*]Click Next, and then click Finish to restart your computer. [/list=1] And Microsoft say :- .... if you are the only person who uses your computer, or if all users of your computer are computer administrators (or members of the local administrators group), it is not important that you install this update. For additional information about the scope of the security vulnerability, review the MS03-013 security bulletin. To review the bulletin, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-013.asp Therefore, I reckon that most home users will be running with fully priv'd accounts (eg Administrator) and therefore can remove the patch without too much concern. Don't say I'm not good to ya ! ;) LOL

Maybe but parts are a bit of a shocker, £500 for a windscreen wiper motor, £1500 for a basic service, £300 each for brake discs and very few around so less chance of alternative suppliers, plus Honda use unique part numbers for each car, so it's extremely difficult to tell whether you can buy a cheaper part for an Accord or whatever, unless you have both parts in your hand at the same time.

  13. http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/30426.html MS security patch slows XP systems to a crawl By John Leyden Posted: 28/04/2003 at 12:22 GMT Microsoft last week attached a health risk to one its own security patches, following widespread complaints that the fix slowed systems to a crawl. The problematic patch, designed to fix a flaw in the way the kernel passes error messages to a debugger, was issued on April 16. The vuln affects Windows NT 4.0, NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition, Windows 2K and Windows XP) and is - potentially - very serious. However the vuln is also difficult to exploit, hence Microsoft's designation the problem as "important" - and not critical. For an attack to be successful, an attacker would need to be able to logon interactively to the system, either at the console or through a terminal session, Microsoft explains. Servers are less vulnerable to the issue, according to MS, because of commonplace restrictions on the ability to logon interactively. Once this substantial login hurdle is cleared, all manner of mischief is possible. "An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to take any action on the system including deleting data, adding accounts with administrative access, or reconfiguring the system," according to Microsoft. XP users who followed Microsoft's initial advice and applied the patch were in for a nasty surprise. Reg reader Granville Gough writes: "If you are running WinXP and install this fix, your machine will be compromised. It will slow to a crawl, taking up to 30 seconds to open a spreadsheet, Word doc, run Meidaplayer and more." "The problem goes away if the fix is removed," he adds. In a warning, issued on Friday, (Apr 25) Microsoft says it has "investigated this issue and confirmed that there can be performance problems when the patch is applied to Windows XP Service Pack 1 systems. "Microsoft is actively working on a revised patch for Windows XP Service Pack 1 and will re-issue that patch when it has been completed and fully tested." However reader Scott Lappin reports that the flaky patch also had "disastrous effects" on Win2K systems, so it seems the performance problems are not isolated to WinXP - contrary to Microsoft's suggestion. So until Microsoft gets its act together users are left with the choice of leaving their systems vulnerable to an "important" security flaw or applying an exceedingly slow quick fix. Microsoft's revised advisory fails to clearly recommend either course of action, leaving it to the discretion of users. ®
  14. Most likely coolant, unless you put Creme de Menthe in the windy washers !

  16. Looks great and will be even better when you've washed all that filthy black muck off ! What colour is it underneath ? :D
  17. YOu may have more than one problem, but it sounds VERY VERY much like the PTU to me. Might be worth taking it off and calening all the connections. If that doesn't fix it then buy one of the new uprated ones from Courtesy in ths US.
  18. Yup, more than double what you're allowed. Get it down to 256K or under.

Production ceased in '99 I believe, last cars sold in 2000. Soon there won't be anyone without a '99 spec front. But I'd like to say that I believe I was the first in the UK !

BTW, the type of oil pump used in Zed engines does not give a high pressure at low revs, like say a Ford pump would.
  21. AndyP replied to a post in a topic in General Discussions - 300ZX Related
You would expect approximately 10psi for every 1000prm, give or take .... but the oil pressure senders are often rubbish and will display all sorts of low numbers (if any!)

If you mean the rear main seal then it's on the back of the engine, not the gearbox and I think mine worked out about £18 plus VAT.
  23. To recap, I've had the auto-manual conversion and the gearbox neutral switch has never been connected. Looked into how it actually works today and established from the Techtom that switch reports OFF when not in neutral, the same as if the switch is physically disconnected. Therefore, my theories about variable valve timing actuation and cruise control are shot to sh1te. As I'd got that far I did connect the switch up (just pulls the line pin 13 on the autobox controller-pin 44 on the ECU down to ground) and now I can happily watch the Techtom report ON when it's neutral and OFF when in gear. Will make no difference though, so now I still have to establish why my cruise control doesn't work ....
  24. Looked into this today on my car (Jap, 1992, Series II, auto-engine). I reckon that there is a tiny amount to be gained here, but certainly not much in my case. Probably 3-4 degrees on the butterfiles I think. Way to confirm this would probably be a before and after reading of the TPS voltage on a Techtom. I did take a little material off the top of the block, but I very much doubt whether it will make any noticable difference. Unfortunately, I didn't think of the TPS part before I did the grinding ! :(
  25. There is one, just like those cordless phones, you can have a cordless modem (effectively). In reality it's a cordless phone with a modem socket I think. Alternatively you can have a wireless LAN in the house (like me). Attaches to the broadband connection and you're away. I have about 6 machines on my network - firewall, server, workstation, laptop, another laptop and a PDA !
