  1. The Almera GTi is a nice little motor mate When you do get bored of it though you should consider building the UK's first VG30DETT powered Almera!!! :punk: would probably have to drop the lump in the boot mind you  that would be hard core!!! Ref your FOR SALE thread bud......I think I spotted 62 year old Iris on the M4 last night, I reckon she's fitted NOS 'cos she was doing about 20,000mph!!!
  2. Just going to run an idea past you guys. I've had a delay with the company that are supplying the polycarb windows for the car; nothing that could be avoided simply a personal family matter on their part, that has halted business for a while. anyway, I want to get the car water tight as soon as possible, before I start to install all of the electronic bits and pieces into the dash. I remember seeing a track NSX that was built in Japan a few years back, that offered the driver minimal rear view through the small polycarb rear screen. Instead the driver relied on a small rear mounted camera with a video feed running into a small LED display mounted on the dash. I'm considering fabricating a carbon fibre screen (mould taken from the original rear Z32 windscreen) fitted with a custom camera housing which would house one of the 4 high resolution RACE TECHNOLOGY VIDEO 4 cameras. The VIDEO 4 system allows (4) seperate camera feeds (+ audio) to be recorded on the systems removable flash card for after action analysis. However the system also offers the added bonus of a seperate VIDEO OUT port. RACE TECHNOLOGY VIDEO 4 What I am looking at as a possible option is, as previously mentioned, mounting one of the cameras into a custom carbon fibre rear screen and then will run the additional rear camera feed (via the external VIDEO OUT port) into a seperate 12v DC DVR mounted on the dash in clear view of the driver, this will then effectively become the rear view mirror, with the added bonus of recording the video feed (in addition to the VIDEO 4 recording) onto a seperate removable flash card (if required), the DVR records in FMV (25 fps) MPEG format wth the ability to extract JPEG stills direct off either the removable flash card or via USB (a seperate remote audio option also enables recording of the on board 2 way comms system from the pits to the driver etc) DVR The whole system runs via a RACE TECHNOLOGY DL1 (datalogger) to the AEM EMS (which also incorporates a datalogger function) so that all vehicle data; in addition to video and audio data, can be recorded (internally and on external flash card); again for after action analysis, with the added bonus of a back up recording of every piece of vehicle/video and audio data. RACE TECHNOLOGY DL1 I am looking to upload the AEM EMS software onto a small OQO computer which will be running off 12v DC, enabling continuous access and control over the vehicle diagnostics. OQO COMPUTER Rear carbon fibre hatch I've already confirmed that as long as the rear view is adequate, the car will still remain road legal. The additinal weight saving over polycarb glass is an added bonus. What are your views fellas? (bearing in mind that this build is primarily for track purpose)
  3. Hey bud how's it going?
  4. Result there matey I could do with a bit of that kinda' luck
  5. I love my Z32 but, there's something honest and raw about the Z31 that the Z32 lacks, a lot less gadgets (not that my Z32 has any gadges left) and a lot more basic a design (even if it is a bit dated looking) With regards to the clutch pedal, it feels like there's no pressure at all when the pedals pushed to the floor and it has to be lifted a little before it springs back up into it's original position. I'm going to top up the fluid tomorrow and see if that makes any difference
  6. I started the silver Z31 up today for the first time in a while since my last drift session about 9 months ago; I had to get the leads from the truck and jump start it as the battery was flat, but she kicked in straight away and sounded exactly how a V6 should (big grins all round) The first thing that I noticed when I got in the drivers seat was the clutch pedal, when pushed, go's straight to the floor and stays there, preventing you from selecting gear. I had a quick look under the bonnet and found the reservoir was pretty much empty and there's a small fluid leak underneath the car. I figure that maybe a pipe has split or a connection is leaking, any suggestions?? As soon as I can get the clutch issue squared away I can start getting this project on the go again.
  7. R33 GTR/TRUCK project build on the DRIFTWORKS forum http://www.driftworks.com/forum/drift-car-projects-builds/99209-r33-skyline-pickup-truck-fun-project.html
  8. Where about's in Salisbury are you bud? I'll be down that way in the next week or so if you want some pics taken and uploaded
  9. In my opinion 'fake' carbon fibre is on par with the flakey bits that fall out of Satan's arse crack before he takes a dump, however genuine carbon fibre parts (including those that incorporate FRP for additional structural support); as long as they serve a purpose, when fitted to any track orientated car, get's a big seal of approval from me. From a practical point of view you can argue the 'lighter than stock vs heavier than stock' aspect of carbon fibre or 'strength vs otherwise', all day long, it soley depends on the individual application of the part and what it's being compared with. However from my personal perspective, if a part/panel is lighter, stronger, functional, easily replacable and doesn't require repainting once fitted, it wins it's place on the car. The argument that carbon fibre will be going 'out of fashion' only really rings true if you're a follower of trends and if you actually give a toss about the fickleness of popular culture; and to be honest if a 17 year old Vauxhall Corsa owner from Oldham tells Max Power magazine that carbon fibre has had it's day I for one ain't listening to the muppet! Motorsport has always inspired the modified car industry and not the other way around. However if Jenson Button rocks up in the next few weeks with a set of 22" spinners fitted to his F1 car and a mahoosive' ICE install booming out on the starting grid, I'll happily retract my 'who leads who' statement Carbon is like garlic bread....it's the future! Just my two pence worth
  10. What fmic are you using bud?
  11. It's just tie rods that I need bud, everything else has already been replaced: ie. DRIFTWORKS FRONT & REAR LOWER ARMS DRIFTWORKS FRONT AND REAR UPPER CAMBER ARMS DRIFTWORKS TENSION RODS DRIFTWORKS TRACTION ARMS DRIFTWORKS HICAS ELIMINATOR KIT DRIFTWORKS don't do tie rods for the Z32 (S14's are too short) so I'm looking at the best alternative, so far importing a set of series V from SPL with TEIN Z33 inners is looking the most obvious choice
  12. Welcome matey, nice ride :thumbup1: won't belong now though until you turn to the dark side I'm sure!
  13. I think this answers my question  Just recieved these from a guy from the 240SX owners club in the States SPL is the part of choice :thumbup1:
  14. Bit of advice please. I've been speaking with TEIN US and TEIN UK and neither can supply inner and outer tie rod ends for my Z32. I know that SPL in the US offer SPL outers with TEIN Z33 inners that 'should' fit but I don't know of anybody in the UK who has these fitted (anybody??) I've just come across another company in the States called 'Wicked Tuning' who supply parts for a few of the teams competing in D1. Does anybody have parts fitted to their 'Z's from Wicked Tuning? or can anybody advise on whether they are a decent brand or not? Their website looks pretty good but I just wanted to check before shelling out a load of cash on importing the parts These are the parts below: They retail for $379.99 but are currently on sale at $139.99 for the set. Wicked Nissan Front Tie Rod and End Set Z32 300ZX - BlueManufacturer: Wicked Tuning MSRP Retail: 379.99Condition: NewSpecial Notes: Race tested on the track, not cheap copy junk others are selling! This is the real deal! Installation Instructions Not Included. Professional Installation WICKED AUTOMOTIVE TUNING cheers
  15. I do like the un-cluttered practicality of a digital dash' but I think you've got to be careful not to over do it and if you wire it up and it starts to call you 'Michael' in a really camp voice, disconnect it pronto before your 'Z' drives away on it's tod and starts jumping over houses for no apparent reason!!!
  16. No Frills just up from Terry Howells building supplies, under the railway bridge a few hundred metres from Argos, TK MAXX etc. not far from the Royal Gwent Hospital. It looked pretty special parked up next to the other run of the mill motors... I'll have to keep my eye out for other 'Z's in the Newport and Hereford area, doesn't seem to be that many about.
  17. Spotted a couple of nice Z's in Newport today (didn't have my camera on me though) There was a tidy red 'Z' reg 'M300...' parked up outside No Frills around 1'ish and then I spotted another black/dark grey parked up at the top of the hill just off Albert avenue/Church road in maindee it's been a while since I've seen another 'Z' in Newport, there used to be a red SWB parked just up the road from my parents house on Victoria avenue but haven't seen it for a year or so now, hope the guy hasn't sold it
  18. What really grips my shit..... - Old people who are practically blind, that cause accidents and drive away completely oblivious to the fact that they caused it, but shaking their heads as they realise that some 'youngster' has just had an accident - When people write 'lol' on messages when it really isn't funny in the slightest - 12 year old Knob heads on forums (such as DRIFTWORKS) who are too young to drive/hold a licence and are blatantly jumping on the band wagon offering up 'google quick search' advice just to sound like they know what the f**k they are talking about - Forums "yeah will" arse kissing types who latch onto the so called 'faces' on the scene, in an attempt to boost both their's and their counterparts standing on the forums - Bull**it spec lists for cars that are in reality a work of fiction and not actually fitted - Ebay car adverts who's mods consist of chrome exhaust tips, an air filter and an air freshener from Halfords but claim to be running 600bhp+ 'cos it's 'chipped'!!!! - When your computer crashes just before you place your winning bid on ebay or as above but the computer screen go's blank then you realise that your 18 month old daughter is sat by the plug socket with an innocent look on her face
  19. My wife literally got rammed off the road a few years back by an old dear who pulled out of a side road and went straight into the side of her. My wife was hit side on and was pushed into the central traffic island, ending up on the wrong side of the road; thank God there was no oncoming traffic or who knows what could have happened. The old woman (again in her 80's) said to the police that her husband (who was the passenger) didn't see my wife coming!! As it turned out, they both had been diagnosed with cataracts but figured that if they 'both' kept an eye out for other drivers, they should be alright! My wife was heavily pregnant at the time and thankfully both her and the baby were alright. The old couple both had their licenses confiscated as a result, but surely it shouldn't take an accident for that to happen?
  20. How much sound deadening do you need in one f***ing car Mr Nissan? I'm only half way through stripping the stuff out and still have the rear wheel arches and boot floor to do yet. The cardboard box of sound deadening that I've already stripped out weighs a fair few kilo's Once it's all removed, I'll weigh it and see how much excess weight the 'Z' was carrying
  21. It's worth noting however that there are a hell of a lot of counterfeit products out there at the moment (especially floating around on ebay), it would be interesting to see if these brake lines were originally soured direct from the manufacturer (ie. HEL) or shipped in bulk to the UK from Hong Kong for example, via a third party, knowing full well that they were poor copies of the genuine part, with the sole intention of making a quick couple of quid. However if these are genuine HEL parts then surely the company need to issue an immediate recall notice before somebody gets seriously injured or worse.
  22. Never really considered this but, I take it a brace would be a good idea with 12 pots front and 6 pots rear?
  23. Point taken mate totally, however I have to give Chris a fair chance to put things straight and finish the job that I paid him for. People generally don't set out to fail and I can empathise with his current situation. To be fair he could have quite easily washed his hands of it and gone down the old 'ZTECH doesn't exist any more, therefore I don't have to do jack' route, but to his credit, he hasn't. Chris/ZTECH aren't going to finish the work, the work will be done elsewhere under negotiation with Chris but overseen by myself. I have literally no contingency funds set aside for duplicted effort, therefore I am willing to give the guy some slack to come good on the deal. He has always been up front with me; despite going AWOL for a few months and being un-contactable, the fact that he phoned me straight off once he realised how concerned and pissed I was; to explain himself, says a lot in my opinion. If I get bitten again, then I'll accept that I was wrong and will openly admit it, but to write the guy off as a complete c**t without giving him a chance to redeem himself when all things are considered would be wrong. we'll see how it go's but I am confident......
  24. I've just been speaking to Chris on the phone for the last hour or so and have been reasured that the engine that was fitted into my car back in '08 is his own engine that was featured in TOTAL NISSAN magazine. I explained to Chris that following my recent bad experience with importing a 600bhp RX7 through another UK based company; and subsequently losing £20,000 as a result, I couldn't help but be concerned when doubts were raised over the authenticity/credentials of the engine that I'd bought off him. As I hadn't recieved any reply and the fact that the ZTECH website had been closed down, I began to have serious doubts in my mind and feared that I had been ripped off yet again. Chris has offered to drop the subframe and remove the sump to prove that the forged internals etc are as they should be, just to put my mind at ease. The fact that Chris attempted to get in touch with me immedietly, and didn't hide away and bury his head like the other spineless f***er did, says a lot in my eyes and go's a long way to reassure me that what he is saying is genuine. He has explained his reasons for not replying sooner, and for my car not being finished after ZTECH moved. I won't go into Chris' personal circumstances as it's certainly not my place to do so, but I will say that I understand completely that certain things outside of his control contributed to the failing of ZTECH and that aspects surrounding the business' failure aren't as black and white as they initially may appear. Chris has said that he will see that the work is completed and that he always intended to do so. I have no reason to doubt this and can appreciate that circumstances with the banks got out of control and he could do nothing to prevent this. The stresses and strains have affected other aspects of his life; and this alone would be enough to break most people so some consideration of this fact might not go amiss if you feel it to be appropriate. I can't speak for other people on their experiences with Chris and ZTECH as I don't know the full facts from both sides, however I am reserving judgement and can only go by what I know. I have asked to sit down with Chris face to face and discuss a detailed plan of action with regards to the completion of my car. Chris has agreed to this and I have full confidence that everything will be sorted in the near future and I hope that things do take a turn for the better for all concerned.
