'Z's today in Newport South Wales
Hey 'johnyboy' I dropped my daughter off this evening with my inlaws and past your old place en route. Weird 'cos my wife and I still looked over to see if your 'Z' was parked up on Victoria Avenue despite knowing full well that you've moved?????

When were the best cars made?
240Z era, what's that.....70's? With regards to the economics side of things, funny 'cos I was actually thinking this morning about this. Think about the time that the Z31 was released as 'the new Z car' and how much it would have cost you to buy one back then, compared to; lets say, an 8 year old 240Z Now 30+ years on, the 240Z is considered by many as a timeless classic and worth a decent five figure sum if it's a good example, whereas the newer Z31 is considered by most to be a poor relative of the earlier Z's (and prices reflect this!) I was just thinking that maybe the Z32 has fallen foul to the same dilemma? Because there are so many out there (compared to earlier Z's) *350Z owners take note 'cos you're next!* Maybe we just need to hang slack on writing them (Z32's) off and bide our time. I feel that in 10 years or so the Z32 will be back up there because so many will have been scrapped for being economically unviable and will be widely recongnised as a proper Z classic along with the earlier 240Z. Who know's, we may be having this exact discussion in 20 years time?

engine conversion any one???
It was only a matter of time before one of these came up for grabs. Lets be honest though, what are the chances that a 'Z' owner is gonna' win this auction! If I was a betting man I would say that this will go to a company like SUMO POWER as a spare for one of their competative cars or snapped up by Tim Webster et al for a mad 'never done before' R32 GTR conversion for Drag or Time Attack. With the expected BANZAI magazine cover headline going something like "The Heart of Godzilla Beats On" etc, etc..... Not that I'm being pesamistic but this is gonna go for at least £18k. Not meaning to generalise but 'Z' owners do seem to haggle over a couple of quid for a rusty set of used coilovers, so laying down that much money in a single hit is a nice thought but...... At least we can take solice in the fact that there's one R35 GTR out there (for the time being at least) that aint as fast as a 'Z' Come on the VG30DETT :punk::punk::punk:

'Z's today in Newport South Wales
That's a shame mate, my wife and I used to comment on it everytime we drove past. I haven't taken my 'Z' down to Newport since early '07. My parents live on Victoria Avenue just opposite the Crown Street junction, there are a few alright'ish motors around there but yours was by far the nicest. My cousin; who lives next door to my parents, has had a whole host of various Supra's (mostly NA autos), Scoobies and 3 series BMW's and is quite touchy when I take the p**s out of them. There's a Skyline GTS-T on Albert Avenue but apart from that there's nothing in the immediate area that stands out; apart from the black Z32 that I spotted the other week just around the corner from the top of Albert Avenue. That looked sweeeeeeeeet!

Z32 tt carbon drift build
Progress on this build is so slow at the mo', thank fook' I've got 2 weeks off shortly. Hopefully I'll be able to really get cracking on with it then. First thing is sorting out the KSPORT brakes, ready to go back on. After being left on the car since it was trailored back from ZTECH back in '08, the brakes had rusted up. They're not too bad but still in need of a good clean. I've managed to get the 6 pot calipers off the discs but the 12 pots are rusted on. Nothing that a bit of wire wool and brake cleaner won't square away. Any top tips fellas, on how to loosen brake pads off rusted discs?

That's decided then, all we've got to do as a 'Z' community in order to get our beloved Z32's value back up there in the crowd of classic's where they rightfully belong, is dominate the entire motorsporting industry from now on in......... I reckon we've gone a fair way off topic on this thread though matey, doh! 'brigade' get some pics of the Almera GTi up bud

GTR's in general have a tendency to maintain a reasonable level of value; even through the recent recession, prices have held up relatively strongly. As an example, back in 2007 I looked at buying a UK spec R34 GTR, most of those that I looked at were around the £30,000 mark. Now 3 years on, £28,000 - £30,000 is still about right for an un-abused clean example. You can pick them up cheaper but 9 time out of 10 these will have seen a bit of abuse. To be fair the new GTR has seen some depreciation in price (from new) but that is always to be expected. I'm guessing in a year or two; at around the £35,000 mark, prices will level out and will probably sit there for a fair few years. The GTR is generally percieved (rightly or wrongly) as a sure thing, future 'classic' in the making; a continuance of a legend if you like. The GTR also has a vast motorsport legacy to fall back on, whereas the Z32 does not. Yes the Steve Millen Z32 was relatively successful in it's own right but didn't dominate in the way that the GTR did, and that's something that the Z32 never really recovered from. For one the Z32 was first and foremost a luxurious Grand Tourer and even though they were two totally different types of car, the Z32 was always overshadowed by the more forceful GTR. You've only got to look at the price drop in recent years, of the later Z33. In the UK, decent mid 90's R33 GTR's are now car for car, more expensive to buy than a 6 year old 350Z, which just go's to demonstrate how powerful the GTR's pull actually is. 'Z' owners could argue until they're blue in the face about how great a drive a Z32 is and how a decent low mileage early 90's Z32 TT should be worth £10,000+ (I agree in that respect totally) however, the general opinion of the unknowing buyer is, the Z32 is a decent enough motor, which is costly to maintain (no more than a GTR I would argue), but surely, can't be that great a car, when you can pick them up these days quite easily on ebay for less than a grand. or picked up by Top Gear for just £1500 and smashed up with the rest of the shit! The only way that I can see, of increasing the value of our Z32's (in monetary terms at least) is to make them more desirable by increasing their profile in motorsport. The US have Z32's competing in Time Attack and running 7 second's on the 1/4 mile. Japan have a few Z32's competing in D1. We need to do the same in the UK or the 'Z' mark will just be another also ran wannabe. If you think about it, the Z32 TT is a pretty impressive base to start with (after the obvious necessary weight loss of course) Z32's costing the same as a used Vauxhall Corsa is just wrong. My rant over, appologies all...... Jack Daniels talking

Z32 tt carbon drift build
You're absolutely spot on mate with regards to balance, my thoughts throughout this build exactly The Z32 isn't the easiest car to quarter weight but I've had a lot of help in that respect. Shedding weight is obviously important but controlled weight loss is key, otherwise you run the risk of upsetting the overall balance of the car and actually have the opposite effect to that which is desired. Partly why I've had to now opt for a larger ATL fuel cell over the one originally proposed and have re-addressed the internal setup configuration of the fuel system, dry sump system and battery location. Adjustable ride height will play a large part in this cars setup, sitting slightly higher on the front quarters than at the rear to manipulate overall balance, to a certain degree. It will be very difficult to gauge exact settings however until the car is back on four wheels and ready for initial testing. At present a lot of this is based on informed guessing We're confident though (fingers crossed) :thumbup1:

^^^^^ that sadly is very true  If you think about it, you're now talking old Fiesta/Corsa/Saxo money for earlier Z32's, which in my opinon is fookin' criminal!!! I can see that the problem is just going to get worse. A lot of new buyers; who maybe pay £800 for their 'Z' are going to be even more reluctant to spend money on their upkeep, than they previously would have. It does however seem that it's only really in the UK that prices have dropped rediculously, prices in the US do still seem pretty strong I suppose we can blame the recession for some of it; if people have to sell their 'Z's then they have to sell them, it's a real shame. We just need to raise the profile of the Z32 to bring it inline with the GTR's etc
