Z32 tt carbon drift build
I was test fitting the front carbon fibre overfenders before the battery on my drill died.........bugger!!! Oh well here are a few pics anyway......... Obviously they are nowhere near complete as I still need to finish the test fit, remove them and cut/shape/refit etc. before the coat of clear laquer on both the front and rear The extra width should enable a very slightly wider track at the front end. Not perfect yet, but they are designed for a Supra to be fair, so don't be too critical just yet

Z32 tt carbon drift build
Ref the helmets, I can ask him in the morning, but very doubtful mate. I would offer one up if it was spare but as my boy, my two girls and my wife will be joining me on track days, I'm going to need it for them. I've got this one spare, if it's any use to you :lol::lol: Cheers for the heads up on the catch tank, I reckon I'm gonna have to sit down and figure out new mounting points for everything :thumbup1:

Z32 tt carbon drift build
:thumbup1: I'm glad you like it mate. The thing with this particular build is that it is what it is, it's a track car first and foremost. There are always going to be problems encountered on the way but I suppose that's all part and parcel of the whole build process. There are always going to be other more powerful Z32's etc. and I know that this build will not be to everyones taste but that's neither here nor there in my eyes as ultimately, I'm not buildng the car for them! There aren't going to be any bu****it spec lists on paper or cut and pasted dyno graphs as with other car forums because that's completely contradictory to its purpose (and please don't think that I mean that as a reflection of 300zx forum members because that's definately not the intention) If a part works it stays, if it doesn't it goes....simples. It would be stupid of me not to take on board advice from the numerous forum members who have a great deal of knowledge on the Z32 but at the same time I fully intend to push certain boundaries where I feel that they can be pushed. We'll see how it goes

Perks of the job! These were kindly 'donated' the other day by a mate of mine who I work with, he didn't have a use for them so I got a result and bagged myself a pair of helmets for track days :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Z32 tt carbon drift build
I'll admit that this is one of the very few aspects of this build that concerns me a little with regards to cost. I'm not sure if any of you are aware of a recent carbon bodied Supra build by Radni Molhampour, the owner of Tevo Dekk (Norway's equivalent of Kwik Fit); Radni also owns/runs JapanTuning (http://www.japantuning.no). For his 1000+ bhp (937 rwhp) track build he utilised an Armstrong Race Engineering dry oil sump system, very similar to the setup that I intend to use. However, despite the replacement ARE sump; that came as part of the kit, being specifically designed for the Supra, it didn't fit properly and he openly admits that it would have been cheaper and easier if he had fabricated a bespoke sump from scratch. I'm more inclined to commision a custom part, machined in the UK, that is guaranteed to be an exact fit. Initially this may be an expensive route to take, though instinct tells me that it might be the more cost effective option in the long run. I'd be interested to hear oppinion on this. Cost is still being determined, but unfortunately I know it's not going to be easy on the wallet

Next up to be fitted is a HEL oil cooler sandwich plate. I'm assuming that the HEL braided hoses are to replace the original old piping and run via the oil catch can en route to the oil cooler????

Z32 tt carbon drift build
The cost of raw materials isn't really an issue to be fair (free basically) as long as it's do'able in thoery I'll happily give it a crack. I appreciate the info mate. The carbon mirrors are from Japan, not sure of manufacturer but really good quality carbon fibre. Here are a couple of pics of my latest purchase, a GREDDY oil catch can, to keep everything nice and clean

Z32 tt carbon drift build
The carbon fibre cannards have now been re-cut and fitted to both sides The carbon fibre rear overfenders have now been hex bolted on so that minor alterations can be made Have test fitted the new larger carbon fibre wing (the carbon fibre 'legs' will be replaced shortly for custom made aluminium parts that will raise the wing height by an additional 4") 30 litre ATL fuel cell Test fitting of mesh wing mirror bases (needs a bit of tweeking/re-cutting) Carbon fibre GT mirrors

More pics of build progress shortly. :hammer: OK.....side mounts may or may not be better than an FMIC.......but that aside :surrender::surrender::surrender::surrender: a quick question. I've been offered a TRUST front mount intercooler from Japan that I've been told is off a twin intake Skyline GTR, though it doesn't have 4 intake pipes etc. it only has 3 How could I make this work on my 'Z'? Measurements wise, it will fit

Jap Import insurance????
Yeah that's kinda' what I figured. The thing is a lot of the parts; apart from body panels, are shared with the Almera and the Sunny. I know that they're popular in NZ but haven't seen another one in the UK yet. Very good on fuel to be fair. £46 to fill up from empty, and with the wife, 3 kids, a dog + bits it'll genuinely do Hereford to London and back and still have only used 1/3 of a tank, so that's got to be a bit of a silver cloud I suppose. Maybe I'll start a NISSAN WINGROAD owners club in the UK and talk to myself all night long

Jap Import insurance????
Just wondering if anybody else has encountered a similar problem. As my wife will be starting a university course within the next year or so we looked for a cheap car that wasn't too costly to run. We found a newly imported 1999 NISSAN WINGROAD; a simple 1.4ltr automatic estate that only had 50k on the clock. The problem is no insurance company has it on their database and so won't insure it. ADRIAN FLUX have said that they'll insure it for £450 + the same again in excess. Now it only costs me £200 to insure my 3.0ltr Hilux and it only used to cost me £300 odd to insure my Z32 TT with only 3 years no claims. How on earth can it cost more than both of those together for my wife to get insured on a 1.4ltr auto, when she is 30 years old, no accidents/points or convictions and has 8 years no claims. Just a bit confused and was hoping that somebody could shed some light or give us a steer in the right direction

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
I'm not overly concerned about the necessary work required to physically fit an FMIC in the current free space of a Stillen front bumper, I just want to establish that in theory a non Z32 TT FMIC can be used on a Z32 TT (ie. Can an FMIC designed for a car with a sequential twin turbo setup (Supra) still be used on the non sequential setup of the Z32 TT?)

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
Cheers bud, but was thinking more along the lines of a second hand Greddy FMIC as oppoed to Fisher Price FMIC mate . Cheap tat and my motor will never be seen together Z32 Greddy FMIC's are few and far between at the moment, therefore if the Greddy equivalent for the mkIV Supra or Skyline GTR is compatable (both of which are relatively quick finds on the second hand market), I would just fabricate the necessary pipework and save myself a small fortune.

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
Cheers fellas appreciate the input, but having said that....reference the original question "will a FMIC from a Supra TT/Skyline GTR etc work with a Z32 TT (with the required pipework in place)" (anybody??) I'm thinking yes but just looking for confirmation

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
At the risk of re-opening the age old debate of side mounts vs FMIC's and which are best for performance enhancement on the Z32; I'm simply going by the fact that the very few pro spec Z32 drift car that have competed to date, have for the most part used side mounted intercoolers and have reported cooling issues. That's not to say that the use of side mount intercoolers were the cause of this, far from it, but it has been said that when going sideways at extreme angles, directing the required amount of air flow to the side mounts wasn't easily achievable and therefore weren't up to the task. I for one would like to compare the two and be in a position to share my accumulated data with the 'Z' community on this subject. All data will be recorded for analysis using the on board RACE TECHNOLOGY VIDEO 4 & DL1 via the AEM EMS. All results will be posted on this forum.

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
I appreciate the feedback mate, though not quite what I meant. This is for a Z32 drift car and side mounts simply won't cut it I'm looking for readily available alternatives to importing a Z32 specific FMIC http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=138461&highlight=carbon

Z31's
Here are some pics of a couple of Z31's that I've had for a few years now. 'The Machine' is an '86 N/A Z31 which may be restored in the future (and fitted with the full leather interior from the black 'Z' below) or sold on as a summer project for someone else to enjoy I put a new battery on it last week and it fired up first time The silver Z31 is going to be converted as a 'tramp drifter' for this season, in order to run it in whilst my Z32 build is ongoing The plan is to remove the rear hatch and rear windows, fit a 4 point weld in roll cage (that I've just sourced for £50!) and convert it into a flat back OZ inspired UT/31. The tired silver paintwork will be replaced with a NATO desert tan colour. *The future intention with this car is to convert it into a disabled drifter, fitted with a hand operated clutch so that it can be driven by some of the injured guys/gals after their recovery at Hedley court. Hopefully with it being a bit of an unusual drift car it will serve as a rolling advert to raise the profile of 'Help For Heroes'. This was discussed with the staff at 'Help For Heroes' a while back, but due to the economic downturn; and the fact that it is purely a self funded project, it has had to be put on the back burner, hopefully this build will gather some momentum shortly. An old scrap Z32 rolling shell was donated for the project which will be used to upgrade some parts on the older Z31 (the shell on the donated Z32 unfortunately had rotten sills so could not be used, though other parts that are interchangable will be used to improve the original car) The silver Z31's N/A motor pulls like a tram so I'll use that one initially and then will look to fit the Turbo engine out of the black scrap Z31, as it's only got 50k on the clock and should be good for about 200 bhp'ish stock

SUPRA/GTR FMIC on a Z32 TT?
Just wondering. (All pro's & con's of SIDE MOUNTED INTERCOOLERS vs FMIC aside) Assuming that you had the correct custom made piping, surely a FMIC for a mk IV Supra or GTR (still running a twin turbo setup) would fit a Z32 TT??? I know that you can import Greddy and HKS FMIC's specifically for the Z32 from places like Z1/CZP etc. but second hand FMIC's are a lot harder to find in the UK. Whereas other makes and models are better catered for. Just wondering if anybody could advise on this :thumbup1:

my 300z sofar its nearly done yahoo
Definately different mate, certainly didn't expect that 'unique' pic of the engine bay, but at the same time, you've made it your own and you should be proud of your hard work. If you're happy with it bud, then surely that makes it all worthwhile. Though it might be worth cutting back on the amount of sugar you have in your tea!

Z32 tt carbon drift build
I've just been setting up the new replacement carbon wing The older 57" carbon wing (top) is being replaced with the new 67" carbon wing (bottom) The new wings shape is a much simpler straight GT design as opposed to the previous wings JDM appearance, however function over form is the underlying intention on this build, so I'm happy with it The old wing stands 9 3/4" high the new wing curently stands 13 3/4" high. The new wing is fixed to a solid carbon fibre spreader base plate which disperses the extra down force produced at higher speeds across a wider surface area. The carbon fibre legs currently fitted will be replaced shortly with a custom set that will allow the wing to sit approx 4" higher

Z32 tt carbon drift build
There is a bit of a myth surrounding the Z32 within the drift community, with most believing that the Z32 cannot be used in competative drifting and dismissing it as an over weight, over complicated, over engineered and ultimately costly car to set up properly. It's an unfortunate reality that performance parts for the Z32; of which there are good quality parts to be had, are not as readily available as other Nissan models such as the 200SX and Skylines, but then again the 'Z' isn't as common as these other models, with the Z32 in my opinion being a far better looking car. For the UK 'Z' enthusiast this lack of parts availability is magnified ten fold, with the majority of top end performance parts having to be imported (at quite a hefty cost) from the US and Japan. How did this project come about? Well, I won't go into too much detail here as the full run down is elsewhere on this thread however in a nut shell, I lost in excess of £20k importing a supposedly '600bhp RX7' from Japan; a car that actually turned out to be a bum deal. Initially this very nearly destroyed my enthusiasm for Japanese performance motors and for a period I considered hanging up my hat, so to speak. Eventually I decided that I wouldn't allow one raw deal to deter me and set about sourcing another car. As it so happened I didn't need to look far, as I still had my Z32 TT that I planned on selling once my RX7 arrived. That obviously didn't happen so I made the decision to build my own, very unique track animal. I stripped the 'Z' right back to basics and removed anything that served no purpose in its future role. A freshly re-built forged engine was sourced and all vehicle components were replaced with new performance parts. It is my intention to set the car up so that it can compete competatively in the 2011/2012 drift season. It is however my overall intention to allow the car to have a run out in the Time Attack series during the following year with the ultimate aim of rebuilding the car 3 - 4 years down the line, ship it to the US and contest the long standing JUN record. Realistic, maybe/maybe not, depends on how the next few years pan out. It would be fantastic to be able to stand up in the future and catagorically state that the same Z32 competed in not only the UK drift series, but also competed in Time Attack and contested the JUN record at Bonneville. Not sure if that's ever been done before. Who knows what the future holds
