Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Update: Dropped the shortie' off this morning at a small garage in Oakdale along with a selection of brakes and pads in the boot. The guy phoned this afternoon to inform me that they'd tried fitting all manner of configurations but the long and short of it is that out of all of the setups, bugger all fits with the Enkeis (typicaly the RAYs fit perfectly) The current set on the zed up front are 8 pot Ksports on 330mm discs which fit nicely albeit with a gauge on the drivers side front disc and in need of replacement pads the 12 pot Ksports on 380mm discs fit but the pipe on the caliper is catching on the inner nuts of the split rims so not going to work  the 6 pot Ksports are on 356mm discs but are for the rear so won't fit on the front none of the discs are interchangeable :headvswal So spoke to Kev at Apex Performance and he's sent a new set of EBC pads for the 8 pots by courier to the garage, just so that the car can be driven he's also sending a brake template to determine whether a new set of 8 pots on larger 356mm discs will clear the inner rim nuts Obviously I can't fit the 356mm dics on the front and keep the 330mm setup on the front Now who said that changing brakes was easy

How much.......?
That would work Are you about tomorrow mate, I can drop your prop off while I'm at it. I've been travelling up to Oakdale from hereford via Pontypool everyday for the last 3 weeks and will be down there next week as well if you're not about this weekend bud

How much.......?
will do, cheers bud

How much.......?
Normally I would, but I really don't have the time mate. So was planning on just dropping it off at the garage in the morning, giving them a boot fall of parts and asking them to fit them

How much.......?
What would be the going labour rate (approximately) for the fitting of brakes front and rear (ie. discs, callipers, pads and lines etc) thanks

Cheers bud :thumbup1: but i reckon this is a good excuse to fit the larger brake setup all round

Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Well there's the problem..... and the gouge on the inside of the disc It looks like the bottom part of the inner brake pad has worn away completely but the top part of the brake pad isn't too bad Is this a piston problem perhaps? I'll be swapping the lot over on the weekend I think

How much is my number plate worth??

Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Cheers fellas, the noise appears to be front right only so will do as advised and strip it down, clean and re-check. Gear lever etc looks to be fine but will double check if stripping th ebrakes doesn't work. I did think that something might have got caught up between the pad and disc (stone etc) so will check when stripping. I'll let you know how I get on thanks

- Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Ok, well a quick update on this the sound that I thought originated from the clutch area appears to actually originate from the hubs? I had the windows down this evening on the way home and made a point of driving really slowly so that I could determine the source of the grinding, as it turns out it sounds like the wheel bearings or something similar maybe the problem. The sound speeds up and slows down on acceleration and deceleration. Would wheel bearings make a noise similar to the metalic grinding described earlier? It's very similar to the sound that you hear when your brake pads have worn when (ie. metal on metal) Any suggestions? costs? etc. thanks- Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Makes sense to me mate, thanks bud- Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Cheers mate Would that be expensive to replace? I've got a spare Centreforce clutch that could go on in the meantime so no cost there but is the thrust bearing a seperate part?- Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
As above. The clutch is on it's way out, but apart from a bit of slipping now and again, gear change is fine, so doesn't really need to be replaced immediately however I've noticed recently that there's an annoying metalic grinding noise, especially when in nuetral at slow speeds (ie. when slowing down at traffic lights) Initially I thought that it might be that the brake pads had worn down and would need replacing (that's what the grinding noise reminds me of) but they are all fine, with plenty of pad left on them. I had a look underneath this evening and didn't find anything unusual. The exhaust system looks pretty much new from front to rear though haven't checked the manifold as yet. I'm a bit stumped to be honest? Could the fact that the clutch is on its way cause a noise like that?- Nissan 300ZX TRANSFORMER
RAM-BOT.....sounds more like a Julian Cleary line for Anne Summers to me bud :tt2:- Kept up with a Ferrari 360 :)
Ok not quite a Ferrari 360 (***EDIT!) but today en route to Newport just outside Pontypool, a Jag XF supercharged that had been following behind since Oakdale, pulled up alongside on the duel carriageway, the Jag obviously wasn't sure what it was that it had just pulled alongside so to test the water she tried to pull away hard. Despite the shortie's clutch not being in the best of health the zed reeled it right back in with ease. Humoured by the fact that her curiosity had resulted in a short sharp lesson in what a 15 year old Jap car can be capable of, she just smiled and acknowledged with headlights and a wave, which was nice. She was a middle aged blonde, and what I would describe as looking like a footballers wife type (no doubt headed straight home to demand that her 'hubby' buy her the next model up) The power to weight difference between the Jag and the shortie' I believe definately played a big part in this encounter. I don't know if the Jag XF supercharged has a paddle shift or manual and whether dodgy gear changes caught her out, but regardless, the zed took it. Top end...who knows, I'm guessing the Jag would take it if the shortie's still currently limited to 155'ish (?) *All of the above was obviously conducted on a clear stretch of duel carriageway with no other cars present and well below the national speed limit :innocent: ***EDIT: Just checked stats and the Jag XF sc is an absolute beast compared to the Ferarri 360. the Ferarri boasts a not insignificant 400 bhp from its 3.6 ltr V8! However the Jag Puts down 464 bhp and 424 ib ft of torque from a 5 ltr V8......and 'it' got trounced by what at first glance appears to be a mildly modded 3ltr TT (partially stripped/Blitz intake/straight through de-cat/upgraded downpipes and some other 'bits')??? So on that note, huge thanks go to Marty (Gonzo12c) you were spot on mate, there's something very special about this particular TT shortie' and I fully intend to get to the bottom of it.- e1 got $600.0000
It must still have about 30 kilos of cocaine hidden in the doors to fetch that price! http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Feightiesclub.tripod.com%2Fid305.htm&ei=yVefTt2tBo-68gO7j-WACQ&usg=AFQjCNFqUn0f30Yl1Lferpqu18Qd3uOnnQ- I like these
Judging by the information below, do you think it's a business? Possibly, and suspect that they have quite a few sets of these rims to sell on rather than it being a case of shrill bidding Business seller information INOVIT INTERNATIONAL LTD Contact detailsCompany registration number: 524 8514 VAT number: GB 860 7030 44 LINDEN LEE unit a templar industrial park coventry Warwickshire cv4 9ap United Kingdom Phone: 07736|281289 Fax: 0845607653 Email: bonronreg@hotmail.co.uk- Any one know whats happened to Ztech
:no::no::no::no::no::no::no::no:: Just to clarify..............!- Clutch questions?
Looks like the stock clutch on the shortie' may well be on its way out as it's started slipping recently, so a few questions fellas, if I may: 1. I've got an old spare Exedy twin plate clutch that Marty kindly gave me when he dropped off the shortie', it just needs a new plate/s. Can you buy replacement plates for an Exedy twin plate clutch or do you have to buy a complete clutch package? 2. The Centreforce clutch off my old LWB (which was supposed to be replaced with a new Z1 clutch by a certain garage but we won't go there...) was in good order when it was run on my old zed, if the Exedy isn't an option would it be worth fitting the Centreforce clutch as a temporary measure? 3. Pros and cons of replacing the clutch yourself (using ramps having never done it before) vs Paying a local garage to do the job for you (ie. is it an expensive job?) I hope that ^^^^^ all makes sense thanks- I like these
I agree, the new rims in my opinion don't belong on a zed and would actually work well on one of Barry White or Chip Foose' Camaro or Mustang re-builds I do like proper JDM 3 spokes (not tatty Rota knock off's) as the genuine kit brings a nice rare touch of retro JDM'ness- new astra electric handbrake is dangerous
Sounds dangerous to me :hammer: A colleague of mine recently moved to Canada and he had a VW Passat with one of these 'handbrakes', it was only a few years old and he had no end of trouble with it Just before he put it up for sale the handbrake solenoid jobby siezed and he had to take it to a VW dealership to get sorted None in stock so they temporarily fitted a 'used' one (cost him £340 fitted) then he had to return to get the ordered part fitted a week later and they charged him the same price? so another £340 out of pocket He only got £3700 for the car having just forked out £680 on a poxy solenoid! Very bad design in my opinion.....I never could figure out how you're supposed to carry out hill starts??? is there a special 'hold' button or something?- I like these
I think this style ^^^^ of rim works very well on a zed. They do look similar to some of the deep dish rims that BBS, Enkei, SSR and Ultralite offer. Personally I wouldn't go for 19's but that's just me Nice rims anyway mate - Blast from the past
One potato, two potato, three potato (well bananas, but you know what I mean) .......loving it  keep 'em coming....- van
Plenty to be had for that price If you fancy something a bit different to the usual Transit/Sprinter etc I'll be putting my Toyota Granvia import up for sale shortly. Currently it's converted to a 2 berth camper but beds/stove etc are easily removed, and it already has a plyboard floor fitted. Looking for around £2500 very low miles and 12 months MOT - Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
