  1. The owner of Clutch Clinic in Hereford has an autograss micra, he's in the process of dropping the VG30DETT and auto box out of his LWB scrapper into it I haven't checked on progress for a good while now but will take some pics next time I stop by for a chat
  2. Right, I'm getting the paddling pool and garden hose out....looks easy enough!
  3. It's completely different to the LWB ABS actuator unit, there are no bleed points on it? I topped up the fluid last night, after 4 pumps of the pedal, the pedal go's from really soft - soft - hard'ish - hard (when the engine isn't running) as soon as the ignition is turned on the pedal go's really soft (air in the system) What are the chances that the procedure is to bleed as per user manual but with engine running (but without bleeding the actuator unit as it self bleeds)??
  4. Cheers guys, It went into the VW garage yesterday afternoon for diagnostics check from what I can find online, this light ^^^^^ is the emissions warning light, the engine management light is called the EPC light; which is different to what the guy at VW told us yesterday? The EPC light does comes on when you turn the key in the ignition (along with all of the other lights...oil, battery etc) and it go's out with all of the others. It's only the emmisions warning light that stays on?? The VW garage said that several faults were logged in the ECU, one being a random fuel pressure issue that they wanted to investigate further. The VW report states: D-EVC (Carry out Express Visual Check) * advisory=Central locking button on drivers door inop. immediate=O/S + N/S front & rear wiper blades need replacing immediate=Brake fluid due immediate=Tyre sealant overdue A-LAB Attend to EML on. Carried out GFF various faults logged ref camshaft. Follow test plan suspect fault with timing chain & timing chain tensioner causing timing chain to increase in length. Requires replacement T-Notes Sporadic fault also logged ref fuel pressure, requires further investigation Interestingly enough the timing chain check is included in the initial EVC and was not picked up as abnormal according to the technicians report, it was only after they checked the fault code on the ECU that they suspected that the timing chain needed to be replaced due to a camshaft fault log? If the timing chain/tensioner pulley needs replacing as part of the normal/precautionary maintenance schedule then that's perfectly fine but I'd rather know that that's the case and not have the wife flapping at 20,000 feet because she thinks that the engine is going to shit itself on the school run (like our Mitsubishi MPV did the other week on the M4 throwing a rod through the block)
  5. Big shoes to fill on the idiot scale....
  6. An Emission Control Light has come up on the dash (solid not flashing) of our '56 plate VW Touran 1.4 TSi (61k on the clock) the car still drives fine with no symptoms of anything wrong This is the light on the dash: We've only had the car about 5 weeks and so took it to the VW dealership in Hereford, they've said that the tensioner has likely worn and as a result the timing chain has stretched, they've told us that it'll need replacing and the cost will be £1012 to put right..... I'll go into worthless Customer Protect 'Gold' warranty another time (or you may hear about it on BBC's Watchdog shortly if they take up the story). anyway the independent garage that we bought the car from has offered to take it back in and sort the problem at their expense and has also offered us a curtosy car for the duration (top bloke by the way, can't fault him) The problem that I have is that I have a meeting tomorrow and I need to use the VW for a couple of hours, my question really is this: - Is the car likely to be ok to use tomorrow or is the light coming on the dash an indication of a high liklihood of iminant engine failure..... or just an automated warning (at 60k miles) to advise you to go and get the timing chain changed as per routine maintenance schedule? I couldn't visually check to see if the chain had stretched, and I very much doubt that it would be visible to the naked eye but as I said, it drives no different to before....any suggestions welcome *the car will be going in pretty much straight after the meeting tomorrow
  7. Well I've swapped the stalk over on the steering column just to see if it was buggered, no joy however. They both flash the lights when not on full beam/when the side lights (should) be on (but they don't work either) then I popped the bonnet and this little ****er was staring back at me!
  8. I'm just sat down with my kids helping them with their homework and my son started going down the line of 'he knows best' this clip came in handy as an example of what happens when you don't listen to coach because you know best weird how a lad dunking himself through a basketball net can get an 8 year old to tow the line with his descriptive writing!
  9. Luck certainly does play a part, no question
  10. Do you remember which one mate?
  11. If the guy sounds like he's from Zimbabwe and has a load of drunk mates tinkering in the background with spanners, just walk away...
  12. It's winter time, his cars broken and it's a buyers market. I think it's worth his current asking price all day long, if the pictures are telling the truth (check underneath and all the usual places for rust). I'd go in sub £1000 (maybe £795) initially and work from there, I reckon you'ld get it for a shade over £1200 which I think is a cracking price
  13. Looks tidy mate from the ebay pics, worth a punt if you're happy to do the work, and 75k miles is pretty low aswell
  14. Serious question How effective do you reckon, would a full weld in roll cage (with twin side bars) have been, in that smash?
  15. How long did you spend searching tinterwebz' for that pic mate? :tt2:
  16. I don't think that there's a witch hunt brewing or that people are being nosey/curious ****ers. At the end of the day if fake forged lumps are being or have been sold for £650 to forum members then: (1) there's potentially a scammer out there trying to make a couple of quid out of forum members who more than likley don't have the funds to lose and (2) when people try to sell their pucker forged lumps they will have to contend with this bullshit perception of 'going rate' whereby people think that they can get an engine that cost 'X' thousands of pounds to build for around £600 and a packet of crisps
  17. Can't really get more FUBAR'd than that!!
  18. It all depends on how much you could pick it up for I suppose mate, factoring in the cost of repair/transporting it from A to B/hidden niggly problems etc if your instincts tell you that it could be painful then just walk away, however if you think that it's easily rectifiable and you can barter the price right down then go for it
  19. Not sure who you bought it off mate but bare in mind that it's possible that he/she paid 'somebody' for a forged lump and assumed that that's exactly what they had sold to you I'm just saying that you both might have been stung, especially if a certain specialist were involved in the build
  20. First of all cheers Baz for sending those bits out, the brake lights are now working  The problem with the headlights is still ongoing as they're still on full beam all of the 10amp fuses in the drivers footwell are good, however there is no power going to the connection where the HIDs plug in (see pic) the indicators are working but have no fog lights connected, I did have a spare set off the LWB but can't for the life of me think what I've done with them (is this likely to cause an issue...it's an import)?
