  1. Well all the welding done and paint applied. I also fixed the lights problem, it turned out to be the earth wire to keep the HIDs on when Main beam turned on. As per usual it took hours to find it and then only by accident. Went for MOT today and passed, even with all seats out except drivers seat. so the Zed lives on to fight for another year. My mechanic friend has got me thinking of mods and even a possible respray, so may be some exciting times in store...
  2. Well the welding has been done, turned out not to be as bad as first thought. Looks like water got though the sealant at the corner of the floor pan and sills and then cause corrosion and then the metal to crack and split. MOT booked for Monday but haven't got time to put the carpet back in so don't want to put the passenger and rear seats back in. This won't effect the MOT will it?
  3. Welcome back Munny, good looking Zed as well
  4. Been working today on getting the car prepared to have the floor pan and sills welded. Spent the morning taking out the seats and carpet to reveal the extent of the rot. Then spent an hour with a hot air gun removing the sound deadening and managed to only burn myself a bit once, which is pretty good going for me ! Other than the rust you can see, there was not much else lurking underneath, which is good new. Is it possible to get replacement floor pan panels ? If so does anyone know where I can get one quickly ?
  5. Right got home and had a chance to look at the failure sheet / car. The crack on the floorpan is a problem Jeff notified us about in March last year with the seat mount breaking away http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?159258-Floor-corrossion-alert&highlight=floor+seat As for the lights, I am confused.... It says "Offside (goes out when main beam operated) Headlamp adversely affected by the operation of another lamp (1.7.5c)" "Dipswitch operation does not extinguish all main beam headlamps leaving at least one pair of dipped beam headlights (1.7.4b)" Now I checked the lights and if I put on the high beam the dipped stay on (I had done the fix when I installed them 5 years ago). If I pull the dipswitch the main beam comes on and the dipped stays on. Checked against the wife's car and her lights do exactly the same as mine... Anyone understand what is supposed to be doing the 1.7.4b and 5c ?
  6. It was MOT time today.... And it failed ! Hole in back edge of drivers side sill (knew about this wanted to ensure there was nothing else lurking around) Crack in floorpan under drivers seat Excessive travel on handbrake and only 18% efficiency (even though the engine stalled trying to pull away last night with it on) bad earth on rear lights causing the brake lights to flash with the indicators HIDs turn off when high beam comes on - Now this has always been the case since I installed them 5 years ago and put in the earth wire as per threads on here. Has anyone else been pinged on this ? Does anyone have any handbrake shoes, just in case I need to change them ? So its off to a mate to see if he can weld the floor for me this weekend and then do the brakes etc. Lets hope it doesnt rain !
  7. Happy Birthday Pablito :punk:
  8. My condolences to his wife & family RIP Barry
  9. Happy Birthday Pete
  10. My 14 year old daughter is turning into a bit of a petrolhead and has agreed to go on a road trip with me over the August Bank Holiday. Problem is where to go, any ideas ? We live in Geddington, Northamptonshire and plan to go Friday and come back on Monday. One possibility is to go to Northern France to see the war memorials (she recently went to Belgium to see the trenches and really enjoyed it) but not sure I of how expensive that would be yet.
  11. Like everyone else I cannot remember the old one, but have always liked this version anyway
  12. Happy Birthday Lee
  13. When at school, we had to spend Friday afternoons in the library reading. One of my friends had read the Rats and had gone onto The Fog. We snuck these into the library and read them. The teacher wondered why we were so quiet and reading when we usually messed about and when he saw what we were reading left us alone saying that at least we were reading but dont show any other teacher... I am half way through his latest book Ash which is classic James Herbert. I was really shocked when the wife told me last night, such a lose.
  14. Happy birthday Kev
  15. Plan was to clean the car today after its visit to Zedworld but it has snowed and is freezing outside so will just sit in the house and do a few odd jos inside instead.
  16. I am hoping this is my Zed Jeff... Looks all good under there !
  17. He is Jim Harker, Leader of the Conservative County Council in Northamptonshire. He has been a councillor for 40 odd years and got an OBE last year for servies to the community. He does work for the Conservative Party nationally as well.
  18. I joked about it at work and my father in law warned me not to call anyone a pleb!. Had a good chat with the policeman at the gate. They were all very polite and joking, even though it had been raining all morning and they were soaked.
  19. I had a very surreal day yesterday. I missed a call from my father in law at 11:30and he left a voicemail. It said he had been to a function at No 10 the previous night and left his mobiles there and could I go and collect them for him. I called him back to make sure I had heard right and I had ! 30 minutes later I arrive at Downing St and explain to the police that I have come to collect some phones and they point me to a pedestrian entrance at the side. Explain to the policeman there and he checks with the events team and confirm I am allowed in. He tells me to go through the security check and then on to No 10! I was expecting them to be at the gate or to be told to go round the back or something, but no. I actually had to go up to the door of No 10 and knock on the door. I was then invited in where someone was waiting with the phones. I tried to take a photo inside but there was a group in there for a reception, so I took one outside (Just to prove to work where I had gone). I know its daft but felt amazing to walk through a doorway I had seen on TV so much but thought I would never get to see, never mind go through.
  20. Thanks for making me and my family feel welcome at JAE in 2008 and for organising them is subsequent years. All the best and keep in touch.
  21. Nice black 300 passed me on the A46 towards Stratford. Took us ages to get level with you as you turned off for the M40 I think. Very nice looking Zed with what looked like a 99 rear spoiler.
  22. I went through quite a few tyres on my old wheels because of this. It was caused by me running wit low pressure in the tyres as the wheels were leaking air a lot. Since changing the wheels I have not had the problem. It is scary how quickly they can develop and how badly it effects the balance of the car and its control, especially at speed.
  23. Happy Birthday Jane
