Blowing My Stick!!!!!
Im in need of some help. I posted a while back that my Z needed PCV's. well, they were done today at zworld and seem to have calmed the smoking a little, but...... 1. It is blowing out the dipstick virtually everytime it sees good positive boost, 2. It is smoking blue under medium-hard acceleration and they seems to be dumping the leaked oil on the manifold under braking or off throttle/bends. 3. It has a very lumpy tickover. HELP!!!!! has anyone ever had this prob? Is it turbo's? Headgaskets? Pistons? Some spurious little pipe that is blocked/split/cracked that could cause this? It is running smoothly when the throttle is touched and pulling/boosting properly. It seems as though the turbos are pressurising the oil????? Any help please. Im at my wits end!!!!:( Im gonna go fit the new brakes now. Be back on in about an hour. Please help. THANX IN ADVANCE. Si.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I got beat!!! BOO HOO!!!
Dont care how many valves it has or how fast it goes, for £90,000 i can make the Z beat it! :D In fact by the time im finished im hoping for my Z to do just that. Will take me time, though. Im not the richest guy in the world and the insurance is crippling me. £2,400 TPFT!!!!! Thats a couple of really nice turbos gone, then.:( Wander if they could charge that if it wasnt law to have it? Well, just to give an idea, in the next 2yrs or so, im after: Roller bearing lightened and balanced bottom end, Carillo rods, JE low comp pistons, Uprated oil, water and fuel pumps, Titanium valve springs, bigger valves, faster/higher lift cams, ported heads, Nismo head gaskets and bolts, 555cc injectors, higher pressure fuel regulator, Greddy E-manage, removal of HICAS, The biggest turbo's i can find/maybee single turbo conv, a partridge in a pear tree. :D

Z spotted in Wolves
I was out the other night bored, when i spotted a yellow Z on a drive in Wolverhampton. Fallings park? Its an N-reg and looks well looked after from the road. Anyone on here? Its only about 5 mins from my house!:)

could it be coil packs? If its intermittent spark on certain cylinders, try swapping the coil packs for that one with another you know works. If the problem moves to that cylinder, you know that it is the fault of the coil pack. HTH. si.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I got beat!!! BOO HOO!!!
i take it that the name SL55AMG denoted a 5.5-litre engine? If so, what happens when it comes to a corner or tries to stop? Even if it handles ok, it must have the nimbleness and corner ability of an elephant on an ice ring!

sounds daft.... is there any petrol in it? joke!!!!! but, seriously, take a look at all the obdvious things first. Crank it then take out the plugs and see what you find. If there's petrol there, do a compression test. All an engine needs to run is fuel, air and a spark-prefferably at the same time. Like i said, check the silly stuff first-power to the coils, knackered plugs, oiled/flooded plugs, poor connections on anything, type of petrol and how long it has stood, check spark and plug gaps, etc. If all seems fine, it may be that you will find a very small ammount of petrol (1teaspoon each) tipped directly into the cylinders may give her the first burst she needs after a rebuild. That one nearly always works if there is a spark. Oh, and you didnt say, is it firing at all or just lifeless? If its firing on 1 bank, it may well be cam timing. Also, how flat is the battery/booster pack? After a rebuild, it is easy for a car to get an airlock in the fuel lines and if it turns too slowly this may not be pushed through. All silly stuff, but the usual suspects. HTH. good luck. si. ;)

Which TUBS??
i've heard that the HKS T-51R can run at 800 bhp+ on a single unit? If this is true and you want big power, surely the way to go is one or even two of these and an anti-lag system? I even heard that there is a nitrous oxide system for this type of application which only gives a boost before the turbo/s wind up, then fazes out as they faze in. Sounds good to me, if a bit expensive. The turbo alone is in the region of £3600 if i have converted it from dollars properly.

Are BOVs car specific?
dunno, mate, but if you find out the specs for the Z ones, then match them when you get the other ones... hey presto ;) :D
-
Best mpg ever!!??
Forgot to mention that with a good hammering and stop-start driving i've seen 6mpg, once!!!!!
-
Are BOVs car specific?
as i understand it (hehe-me, understand, same sentence!!!lol) a BOV is not bothered what car it is on, but is pressure sensitive. i would presume that you could fit any to any car, but the effects would depend on the pressure settings/pressures being the same and on you being able to find/make a fitting kit. HTH. si.

Best mpg ever!!??
if your car does what you brought it for, then it is a good choice. If you want to get a few more mpg, why not try a chip mapped for fuel consumption rather than performance? Anyway, i thought the non turbos were ok? Still quoted as 220bhp, isnt it? Still more than a (similar weight) earlier scooby! :D

Wot BHP?
Cheers, 51x. I may struggle to have it done in time for that one and Essex is a long way to breakdown from if it all goes pear-shaped. If i can get it booked in for the PCV's and brakes in time to have a couple of days shakedown driving, i'll be there. Just gotta fone Jeff, now. Its easier to contact the dead.
-
Best mpg ever!!??
Dunno if anyone else on here has, but i havent/wont. I usually get around 12mpg, going upto around 18mpg on a steady run. On the other hand, i didnt buy it to get good mpg. It does its job (going stupidly fast all the time) quite well enough.:D :D

Help Please
if you just want cheap to sell it, try part-worns. not my idea of a good idea, but they will get you an MOT. Otherwise you are probably better off buying a set, selling your resrs as part-worn and adding the difference in price to the value when you sell it. HTH. si.

Wot BHP?
where/when/how much is this rolling road day? i may be able to come, but i have to get the poor thing taxed and put brakes and PCV's on her first. Always comes in droves, doesnt it? Just for the record, though, it has been de-catted, HKS filter (which is #;'; and needs swapping) Jasma back-boxes on custom 3" system and 1.0mm mig tips. And grinding brakes (after 1200miles), s#@te air filter and stuffed PCV's:eek:  :slap: soon to be upgraded :D

anyone know where you stand with classic policies if you have points? (7)

ok. 255/35/18 will go onto a 10-inch rim. Its unlikely you will notice a massive difference in grip unless the tyres are far removed but being (i presume) ZR rated, they shouldnt be too different. Your profile will drop very slightly and they will probably look a little bit small on the wheels, but legality, fitment and general usage should be fine.:D how cheap are they?

Det sensor failure
mine was doing this just after i had it. driving fine cold, but once warmed, if driven on high throttle just as boost comes on, it would det slightly and go to safety boost. Put optimax in it (think it had been on cheap stuff b4 i had it) and cured it immediately. If your car is doing this, are the wires to the det sensor earthing out? is it detting? is the timing retarded enough for your application? A code 34, as i understand it means its detting?

tyre compound and surface are big factors, but so is weight (force on tyre), temperature range and suspension control, but the wider the tyre the more contact area, the more grip. If this wasnt the case, we'd all (for aerodynamic reasons) be running round on chewing gum compound 115's as they would wear out all the time but cost so little to replace that it would be worth it. :)

TPS Problem
could it be a build quality fault in the TPS? like the bit in the top not being tightened enough and is moving slightly? Just a thought as im no electrician. good luck. si.

need help quick
i gotta agree with james on the size, though. mine is on toyo proxes but they are only 245 rears. not enough for the power which is steadily aproaching 380bhp.

in that case, you are only coming down 10mm wide and a little in profile. should work fine.:)

confused?
