Im in need of some help. I posted a while back that my Z needed PCV's. well, they were done today at zworld and seem to have calmed the smoking a little, but......

1. It is blowing out the dipstick virtually everytime it sees good positive boost,

2. It is smoking blue under medium-hard acceleration and they seems to be dumping the leaked oil on the manifold under braking or off throttle/bends.

3. It has a very lumpy tickover.

HELP!!!!!

has anyone ever had this prob? Is it turbo's? Headgaskets? Pistons? Some spurious little pipe that is blocked/split/cracked that could cause this? It is running smoothly when the throttle is touched and pulling/boosting properly. It seems as though the turbos are pressurising the oil?????

Any help please. Im at my wits end!!!!:(

Im gonna go fit the new brakes now. Be back on in about an hour. Please help.

THANX IN ADVANCE. Si.

When you say the PCvs were "done" do you mean replaced?

The symptoms you describe are those of clogged / failed PCVs

The PCV valve may fail in either a closed or open position, usually due to clogging with oil sludge or dirt. Failing in the open position causes hard starting and rough, low speed running. Failure in the closed position causes buildup of crankcase pressure, which can force engine oil past seals, gaskets and other openings in the crankcase. Most likely through the rear main seal, or blowing out the dipstick on the Z32.

sounds like rings to me:( comp test:confused:

if youve done the PCV's & all the breathers are clear, then it looks like the crankcase is pressurising from piston blowby gasses :(

do a compression test & a cylinder leakage test & see what the results are

sounds like the same as mine :(

if its blue smoking under idleing i think it might be the pcs's but if its blue smoking under acceleration then i'm affraid its more serious, usually white its the tubs and blue the engine.

Do a compression test, this should tell you if there's anything wrong, i did with mine and one of my pistons or rings are f****d so its an engine out job

Hope yours isnt but sorry to say it does sound like it to me.

Its only money :D

thanks, guys. The PCV's were replaced at Zworld earlier today. I have heard that it may be blocked breathers?

What are the chances of this? Hope it is, but im consigned to it being pistons or something else big.:(

If it could be breathers, how hard is it to get to them?

I dont mind the work. I'll do a compression test tomorrow. Cant see anything at the mo. Thanks again and any other help/comments/feedback is greatfully appreciated. cheers. si.;)

Feel for you mate, I am guessing rings fooked i'm afraid.:(

Its only started to do this SINCE the PCVs were replaced? The PCVs are jammed open, allowing the boost to pressurise the crankcase. Were the valves that were fitted brand new? Sounds like maybe a faulty batch....

Siraff`s zed was booked in (by phone) for the pcv`s to be changed and when it arrived the battery was covered in oil, the dipstick had blown out on the journey to the booking, Siraff refilled the oil and carried on slowly.

After talking it over with both Siraff and an engine rebuilder it was decided by Siraff that the pcv and hoses were still replaced ( with brand new items ) so as to elliminate them from the problem.

The oil was also changed as too much had been put in previously, however, after this the engine was still breathing heavy (but not so much), unfortunately for Siraff rings do seem likely to be the culprit.

Yep, thats why I wanted to know if it was happening before the PCVs were done ;) Compression test is the only way forward, although it looks pretty obvious from the symptoms that the rings are shagged, or maybe even a holed piston...

Use to happen to all my old CVH lumps, different engien I know but to pop the dipstick up, gotta be rings, so much pressure getting through and burning oil whilst moving is a sure sign!:(

ok, guys... Still havent done comp check, but it sounds pistons/rings. All shouts on the best/cheapest/other options on new ones? If its broke, its gonna get faster/stronger because of it.;) :D
