  1. Collected my ZX from the bodyshop today, following a slight bash..... Looks good with the new 99 spec front bumper  No pics yet, but I'm sure the opportunity will arise over the next few days :p Felt good to drive a proper car again after a 1.2 Corsa courtesy car  Just in time for my holiday in Yorkshire next week  Richard :)
  2. Hi Alex, Does your new signature refer to your new job - perhaps giving haircuts for nothing? And before you ask, no thanks - I don't have enough hair!! ;) BTW, do you still work opposite the Chiltern Brewery? I pass everyday now I work in Aylesbury.... Richard :D
  3.   Nice one!!
  4. This is so true. Most of the good ones are snapped up early by enthusiasts - remember Scooby-Doo's UK spec manwell, red, Stroesek kit and 79K miles? went for over £6k within a week or 2. Plus now that imported cars are everywhere, the world and his dog are bringing them in from Japan and they don't care what crap ther import anymore - anything to make a few quid. Stick to enthusiast-maintained/owned cars (like those for sale here) or reputable importers, like Jap City (http://www.jap-city.co.uk) You'll pay more but get a good one Richard
  5. Hi mate Best you get 4-wheel allignment done first, rather that remove and reset the steering wheel. I had this last year after a so-called expert set the wheel allignment  - the wheel was straight before.... Turned out he had made a righ feck-up of it, so another person who actually knew what he was doing corrected it. The s'wheel must be straight IIRC for the HICAS sensors located in the boss part, otherwise they think you are constantly cornering and the HICAS compensated accordingly. I found that the power assistance was not functioning correctly at higher speeds and got too stiff after a long straight m-way drive. Once I had the wheel allignment fixed (cost about £50 for the proper 4-wheel setting) is was perfect :D Richard :smw:
  6. I did, but it wasn't me who mentioned the steep drive. I recommended the guy (Ken IIRC) as a decent trader who knows his stuff, despite falling out with him over me not buying a car. I won't say any more on a public forum - not fair or necessary. You're welcome BTW ;) Richard :D
  7. He's deffo a "Sailor of the Cadbury Canal" I mean, it's a perfect combo - scantily clad women and cars...... ....what more could a healthy hetro petrol-head want?? I always go to the classic car show, my mate and I obvoiusly look at the cars but we only judge each stand by the quality of the women there :hyper: :nono: Richard :D

Welcome to the font of (300ZX) knowledge..... ;) As already said, UK cars were '89 G (although rare that year - 1990 H was when sales really started) through to '94 L (and sometimes M). Most will have covered high mileages now, but there are still some nice low mileage UK cars around. In Japan they were indeed sold up to 2000 UK cars were sold in fewer colours too - red most popular UK colour (and it is the "designer's choice" BTW :D ), black, white, gun-metal, yellow and met. blue. If you want silver or any of the pearl colours then they are import only. Don't be put off by import insurance, there are some specialists (eg Houghton's in traders section) who do not charge more to insure imports. You just need to shop around - the only advantage with insuring UK spec cars is the number of companies willing to insure you. For £8000 you could get a late import, a top low mileage UK car would probably run to around £6K (maybe £7k from greedy dealers). Good luck with your search Richard :smw:

Not bad, although it's not quite the same as an original 99-spec front. The real one has different shaped indicators - this one looks like it uses the normal style ones.... They'd probably charge a fortune to ship it here though Richard :)
  10. At today's prices, one surely cannot afford not to buy a ZX  ;) Richard
  11. Exactly what it does..... ...lots of older, non-sophisticated cars would be running too rich as jets in the carbs wear and let more fuel through. This thing leans out the mixture to compensate, thus reducing fuel consumption and restoring mixture to correct ratios. Hence the better performance. On a car with correct air/fuel setting this gadget would not work - the engine would run too lean. Deffo wouldn't run one of these on a ZX. Richard :)
  12. ?? BTW, what were your searching for to come across that? Richard ;)
  13. Nice late-spec ZX. Did you get that from Autotech/BMC in Rickmansworth? Richard
  14. Mine's just gone into the body work place, following a little Land-Rover shaped obsticle..... .....Should be emerging early next week with a nice new 99 spec front end  They've given me a shiny new 1.2 Corsa to abuse - suprising how fast it can be made to go....... Richard
  15. Heh heh ;) I'm with you, Fas
  16. Does look good, mate  Richard :)
  17. Yes, but you can still insure a car not registered to you. You just need to inform your insurance company of the situation. Some of our fleet cars at work are on contract hire and registered to the lease co, not us (As they tax the cars - included in our rentals) but we still insure them in our company name. Richard
  18. Hang on, The new laws say "If you do not send the (correct part of) the V5 to DVLA when you sell a car then you are still liable for the tax/SORN declaration and the penalties for non-payment" Therefore technically the previous owner of your car is still liable for it, not you! Anyway, you should have the little green part of the V5. Take this to a VRO, there's one in Reading, with an application for a tax disc, application for a new V5 in your name plus MOT insurance and payment and they will tax it on the spot. How many people buy untaxed cars from dealers, then have to tax it immediately without the V5? Loads, of course! My ZX wasn't taxed when I got it, plus I wanted to assign my personal reg no as well - extra complications - but I did it all at Luton VRO on the day (in 10 minutes :D )with just the little green slip of the V5 as the dealer only had the red part (he sends to DVLA) and the green part (given to me). HTH Richard
  19. Hi Pete Try http://www.powerbulbs.com (no delivery charge) Richard
  20. Hi mate I have a UK spec TT (73k miles at present) and drive approx 50 miles per day in it. So far it has proved very reliable, as you would expect from a Nissan. They are essentially reliable cars but there are thing which perish (water hoses) and the excessive heat under the bonnet can cause some electrical connections to break too. It is a sophisticated and complex, high performance machine. The best of which are now 12 years old so expensive routine replacements are going to be on the cards. Also it would seem that owners of modified Zeds suffer more problems than those of standard cars. That said, Toyota reliability is reputedly second to none but you have had probs with your celica - you therefore must take your chances with whatever you buy. As mentioned, your best bet would be to buy a car from a member here - we're all enthusiasts of the car and are more likely to have looked after it properly, thus lowering the risk of problems. Good luck Richard
  21. Doubt it will make much difference TBH. Also it is down to the make of the tyres. I had Avon ZZ1s in stock sizes (245/45/16 rear) and when I replaced the alloys, I got 255/40/17 Goodyears F1s on the rear. The grip is now way better in both the dry and wet, but that is probably mostly down to better tyres. I do think the car handles better in general with the extra 10mm of rubber, though  Richard :smw:
  22. Good luck with your first car, mate. You can get that ZX in a few years. £1750 to insure a Corsa and a tracker required?? where do you live  The Corsa is a pretty nice car, we have one too - a 1.4 sport. It's pretty quick, uses next to no petrol and comes with loads of extras (but costs Julia and I only £280 to insure ;) ). I bought it as a daily driver a couple of years ago to save using my (then) Supra. However I still couldn't give up the Soop, and now the ZX, so we sold Julia's Micra and she now uses the Corsa..... ....I've had 120 out of it downhill, not that you'd be driving like that, eh ;) Richard :smw:
  23. I didn't vote.... Just have one question, can you afford a divorce ;) I've though of this too and decided it's cheaper to have her shot :x: Richard
