  1. I know - I saw this car coming the other way, put my foot down and........ ......no turbos kicked in  I've never made that Rav move so quickly, I can tell you!! ;) Richard :)
  2. Hi Jay, I have the same kit. If you have an aftermarket air filter fit the ballast packs under the nose-cone like I did. Stick them to the brackets with the stick-pads then use self tapping screws to fix the brackets to the metal edges where the old air-box sat. If you have the stock air-box then use the sticky pads to fix them to the under-side of the headlights. gain access by removing the indicators. As for the wiring, disconnect the plug and remove the whole section of wire that goes through the plastic dust-shield and finally to the back of the lights (it's all one section - the wires and cover are joined together). Then simply fit the spade connectors from the ballast packs directly into the plugs left in the loom, cover this in insulating tape for security and to guard against dust/water. Fit the HID bulbs into the holders in place of old ones. Take the wiring previously removed (with the rubber cover), cut it out of the cover then use the cover again. Pass the new bulb wires through the hole in cover and fit the cover over the back of the headlamp as normal. Make sure the HID bulb wires reach the ballast packs with some slack - you don't want them stretched. Whole thing should take little more than 1/2 hour maybe an hour max. Connect the HID bulb wires to the ballast packs and switch on - hey presto you can see at night!!. Hope this helps, Richard
  3. Just driving home from work this afternoon in the Rav (I know, I probably deserved it  ) on a nice stretch of 60mph A-road when I drove up to a new Pug 407. Driver was a 40-ish sales rep on the phone, driving at 45mph. A couple of cars passed in the opposite direction so when it was clear I signalled and began overtaking - perfecty safe manouver. With a slight bend approaching and a car appearing round it I checked my left ready to pull back in only to find the complete w@nker in the Pug accelerating. I really had to nail the poor wee 4x4 as braking and ducking behind the c\/nt in the Pug was NOT a safe option. I just made it but had to cut across the front of his car, then the fekking w@nker decides to hoot, flash and drive right on my tail. Why do these people think they own the fekking road, and if they don't want to be overtaken by a 4x4 DON'T FEKKING DRIVE AT 45 IN A 60 ZONE WHILST ON THE PHONE. :nono: Sorry, rant over. Just pleased I got home without a head-on colision because some c\/nt thinks he's clever. Richard :slap:
  4. And why do we have a swear filter on b@stard? Richard ;)
  5. We already pay per mile - it's called tax on fuel FFS  Why do we just bend over and let the b@stards shaft us :smash: Richard

Pay period has little to do with notice if you have a contract which says "you must give 1 month's notice" that is self explanatory. But the court thing is right. Employers rarely take staff to court for breach of contract as: a) too costly/time consuming/not generally worth it b) employers hardly ever win. Call his bluff mate, a disgruntled employee working notice is far more dangerous to a company so it is perfectly normal now for employers to let someone go early or send them on garden leave rather than make them work the last month. Although if they insist you don't work they still have to pay you throughout the notice period. You have asked to leave early so they don't have to pay you until the end of the month. If the w@nker still won't budge, say he has "made unreasonable requests of you which are outside the scope of your job description. Consequently you are unable to continue in your current employment and your termination of your employment will be interpreted as constructive dismissal" They won't risk a tribunal hearing for that, he may make threats to scare you but that's all hot air. Their solicitors/HR department will advise him to let it go if they have any sense. Good luck mate, Richard :smw:
  7. True, I only ever visit in June or January. Julia has a mate in Camelford and she says the for he whole of August the roads are packed with slow tourists in Mondeos towing caravans :headvswal It's getting more popular out of season now though with various TV series like Doc Martin and A Seaside Parish. Richard :smw:
  8.
  9. Mine has to be the either B3314 between Delabole and Wadebridge in Cornwall or the B6255 between Ingleton and Hawes on North Yorks. Great fun in the Z and nearly always empty. If not there are plenty of decent overtaking spots. For straight line fun then the A41 between Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury, usually quiet during the day and great for hitting the speed limiter :x: Richard :smw:
  10. I have to dissagree with you there mate.......... ........ I don't smoke!!!! :wack: :D Richard :smw:
  11. Hi Alex, IMO the best tyres are Goodyear GSD3s. Fantastic grip, wet weather ability and not noisy either. They don't last very long on the back though - my last set of rears were on the limit after 6000 miles  Plus the testers at Evo mag and Japanese Performance thought so too  Richard :smw:
  12. Mine too. So long as the car is within the maximum speed range for that gear it should kick down to the lowest gear allowable. Therefore assuming you are doing 20mph and floor the throttle, it should drop down to 1st and hold it until around 40-50mph before changing up to 2nd, and so on. Richard
  13. Elephant are part of the Admiral / Bell Direct group but are primarily internet based. I've been told by a good mate that Elephant's claims service is dire to say the least, whereas when I had to claim from Bell Direct last year they sorted everything perfectly. Bell let me obtain parts from Mike Feeney so I could have the bumper replaced with a 99 spec, sorted a courtesy car and got my ZX back in fine order in a couple of weeks. I was quoted a decent premium by Elephant online but when I rang Bell for a quote, they offered to match it as they are the same company, but without any of the drawbacks of an internet based company. Just a thought, mate. BTW I'm not with Bell anymore - ZX is now on a 2nd (classic) car policy with Carole Nash. FC cover, 6000 miles p/a, guaranteed value, for the annual premium of £295. Richard :smw:
  14. I totally agree there Si (and everyone else against "txt spk") I think we should ban it from the forum. It saves no time when you have a proper keyboard and takes twice as long to read. I usually don't bother making the effort to even read threads in "txt spk" let alone reply to them. So come on moderators - is there anything you can do to eliminate posting "txt spk"?????? PLEASE! Richard :headvswal
  15. Ahh, Two Ronnies - a classic there mate  Richard :D
  16. Probably has mate - I have always supplied the oil to my local garage. Exactly 4 litres each time, yet the mechanic always says "you need to add 1/2 litre when you get home" It takes so long to drain back into the sump after running the engine that those unfamiliar with the ZX would most probably top it up too much. When I get home, leave the car for 15 minutes or so, re-check the level it is spot on so needless to say, I don't top it up! Richard :D
  17. Using Shell Helix Ultra is not skimping on oil mate - it far exceeds Nissan's approved type and with the exception of one lot of Millers, is what I've always used in my ZX. I gave them a ring about the oil filter and they said it would be a "Blueprint" made part - which IIRC are supposed to make quality japanese car components. Can't comment on whether they are good parts......... Richard :smw:
  18. I'd tend to agree with this - when I was looking to buy a ZX I drove several autos and manuals and TBH the performance was barely different as the auto set-up is very good. Not like the difference between, say, a manual and an Auto Mondeo where the auto would be a lot slower. Auto ZXs are supposed to be quicker 0-100 than the manual, which also suggests better (or maybe more consistent) mid range acceleration for overtaking. Richard :smw:
  19. As Legrath said, Plus looks and value for money really swing in favour of the ZX. You can't get a decent E36 M3 for £5000, plus if you have the M3 no-one with average car knowledge knows the difference between that and the 318i :o A decent low mileage 944 turbo is pretty rare these days too and since the 968 came out has started to look dated IMO. Still a great car though. Good luck with whatever you get. Richard :smw:
  20. I find it hard to read particularly when it's fresh oil and more so on a warm engine. When I can't see it, I just place the end onto a piece of folded kitchen roll and see how far up the stain goes, before it soaks in too much. Oooh errrr missus! Richard :D
  21. Also the sender unit fot the guage tends to go bad after a while. When it does, you get a proper reading when the engine is cold but as soon as you get to full temp, it reads zero on idle. New ones run at over £80 from Nissan. Richard :smw:
  22. Only available on j-spec cars. Probably as the average Japanese person is 3 feet 6 inches tall so they can't see over the steering wheel :D Richard :smw:
  23. As the power is quoted at the flywheel, not the wheels drivetrain losses make no diffrence to quoted BHP. As everyone has said, out of the factory only US manwells were quoted at 300bhp. All other TTs were supposedly 280bhp Richard
  24. Yes they are. Although some companies now do not charge more to insure imports, many people still find that insuring an N/A can cost more than a UK spec TT Do a search here for insurance threads. Richard
