Heh heh, me too. :smash: As for the Freddie Mercury/Queen comparison, Mikka is not fit to lick the boots of the all time Gods of Rock  Richard ;)
  2. Hey all, I've just found a 1996 N plate TT for sale, it looks a very nice example........ http://www.300zx.moonfruit.com Richard
  3. Couldn't agree more Stella....... ......if global warming is a real phenomenon, and it means we can have warm and sunny days in February then please forgive me if I spend the whole weekend making proper use of gallons of Shell's finest  Greenpeace can f*ck off  Richard
  4. I'm still not sure - I've seen a couple of pics where they don't look too bad and others where they look pants. If you do buy them please don't buy the carbon effect ones. They are just cheap plastic and will look crap. The black ones look better, or how about colour coded............? (I guess that option may look better on a red ZX) ......then again 99 spec are still the best IMO. Richard :)
  5. I like the Cossie, however to the untrained and unenlightened they just look like a Barry'd up Escort unfortunately. The ZX still turns heads for the right reasons, plus I prefer a coupe to a hatchback. The Cossie makes for some good twisty road driving fun though so it is a difficult call. However from what you have just said about how much you'd use it, I'd definately keep the ZX. I just wouldn't bother spending £12k+ to buy a car that I'd hardly drive. I had similar thoughts a year ago - sell the ZX and buy a 350z. But the 350z just didn't seem worth £22k when compared to the driving pleasure I get from the ZX so I kept it as a weekend car, saved myself £10k and spent the remaining £12k on a daily driver. Richard :)
  6. I like the look of the gloss black - it blends in with the targas perfectly! Richard
  7. Well that's one way to lower the suspension............
  8. Certainly does mate!! Perfect colour combination too IMO  Richard :)
  9. Yes, if you know what the make of the kit is. But 2 bulbs will be almost as much as the original kit, I'd say. Speak to Danny at DTA, he may be able to help you. Richard :)
  10. Exactly! As for the Merc/BM question, I'd say 5000k. From what I've seen they are a lot bluer on start-up then get brighter and whiter as they warm up. The MD at work has a new R class Merc and the lights on that are a similar colour to the ones on my ZX, although they are bluer on start-up. Richard
  11. Then I'd say it is down to the quality of the HID bulbs. Merc & BMW use expensive Hella kit while the mainstream manufacturers probably use "the economy" version. Our aftermarket kits weigh in at a couple of hundred pounds so don't really compare with OEM BMW/Merc versions. BTW my SLK is an old shape one with halogen lamps. I haven't thought of fitting HIDs as it doesn't really need them........ ;) Richard :)
  12. No they wouldn't be really. 8000k lights are too "blue" hence no real light output; they are only cosmetic. You should have no more than 6000k which is white - much more like natural sunlight; I believe that is what HID kit I have and the effect is excellent. They have a slight hint of blue, similar to Mercedes and the spread on the road is so good that I rarely need full beam. Richard :)
  13. Hey Si, Why'd you think of me there....... .....anyway, I have a theory! Firstly (and someone who works for Merc/BMW please correct me if I'm wrong) but don't Merc & BMW use Hella lighting as standard, which is normally top notch stuff. Secondly, and this expands on Piesoup's comments regarding beam pattern. Light bulbs are cylinder or cone-shaped, hence the naural beam pattern is round (like when you shine a torch). Now I've noticed (yawn, I know) that most car headlights (including the reflective silver bit, whatever it's called) is square or rectangular. This must effectively "cut off" the edges of the round beam projected from the light. Now BMWs and the new Mercs all have round headlamps. (Or individual round lights behind one bigger front lens) I've read somewhere that round headlights are better than square ones - BMWs have nearly always had round lights so even their halogen lights are better. When I had my Mk3 Supra, that had a square lamp in the pop-up pod; the beam cast was pretty good (when I installed PIAA bulbs) but it still could not compare to the round lamps that were installed in the pods of the Mazda MX5 or Porsche 944, despite being a similar size and level from the ground. What do you reckon.......? Richard
  14. Too true Vinni  I actually thought it was funny - a laugh - escapism from crap reality TV etc etc. Loved the "speed kills" jibe too  I hope Jeremy & co start on them in next week's program...... Richard ;)
  15. Exactly what I have - they are a decent combination, fill the arches nicely and they tyres are a pretty common size so even the best brands are not too expensive! Richard :)
  16. Two things.......... 1. Yes, I also have a clause on my policy that states cover is void if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Therefore if you are hit by a drunk driver I guess they are not insured so you have to claim from your own insurance and sue the driver personally. 2. Hire charges of £22k and £13k (for 3 months) What are you both hiring FFS? Surely you could have hired a fairly decent car for a reasonable weekly/monthly rate???? And the last time I hired a car following an accident I was politely reminded "That I have an obligation to keep my uninsured losses to a minimum" Still if the third party are paying who cares? Well we all do in the end because all large claims have an effect on everyone's premuims over time ;) Richard :smash:
  17. Not all UK cars are rusty....... .....however in the winter we (allegedly  ) salt our roads which plays havoc with the steel from which cars are made. In Japan they use some kind of volcanic ash. So the upshot is, after 14+ winters in salt or volcanic ash, which car do you think will have faired the best? There you have it! There are still some UK cars in fine condition but since there are now fewer UKs here than imports they are harder to find. Richard ;)
  18. Hey Royal, old chap..... .....I once read that somewhere! Why is it that rotaries (well, the Rex anyway) do not like synthetic oil? Sorry, I know it's irrelevant to this thread but I just gotta know......  Richard ;)
  19. Wise words, Jason! As for the "20 year old French cars running 600bhp" comment; like they are common  Is that with the Ripspeed decals and dump valves.......coz they add 200bhp innit ;)
  20. OK, I'll offer my humble opinion.........(lights touch paper and stands well back  ) If you have a fairly stock TT then 5w40 is perfectly fine. Nissan specify a 10w40 semi synth so a decent 5w40 fully synth is more than adequate for your car. Mike Feeney at MJP sells and highly recommends Millers XFS 5w40 for a ZX twin turbo. I have always used 5w40 fully synth (Millers XFS and Shell Helix Ultra) and my (87k mile) Uk spec runs perfectly with it at "textbook" oil pressure even in the height of a hot summer. If you have a highly modified TT then go for the 10w60. The extra heat generated will most probably exceed the capabilities of a "40" rated oil. So there you have it........ Richard :)
  21. Plus too many kids nowadays sit in front of their playstation/WII/PC etc etc eating junk food and generally getting fat. Outdoor sport is healthy, he can meet and interact with real people and enjoy a fine hobby. Go for it! Richard (again) :)
  22. Here here. In a safe, supervised and controlled environment, there is nothing wrong with what you have done. Clay shooting is a sport and should be enjoyed (responsibly, of course) by anyone capable. Keep at it mate and tell the PC busybodies to f*ck off - if that doesn't work just take your guns, give them a 30 second head start and............. All the best! Richard
  23. Not necessarily! Many HID conversion kits are "E" marked - therefore legal to use here. OEM fitment regs say the lights must have height/level control and wash facility but that does not apply to the aftermarket. For the record, I have had an HID conversion for around 3 years now. My ZX has passed 3 MOTs at different garages with no reference to the headlamps - all they check is the allignment and the fact they work. Richard :)
  24. THe one that Si posted looks fine - otherwise I do think they look dated and not quite the classics that the 240/260Z were..... ......however Bruce Willis drove (a white) one in the 1980s movie "Bind Date" and it looked cool then  As for the Supra performance comparison - IMO the 2.5tt was shite. I had 2 MA70 3.0 turbos (one UK, one Jap) and they were better/faster than the (Jap only) 2.5tt. despite the "official" figures and Supra Forum chat  Richard ;)
