  1. Hi all, I spotted a nice looking black 300zx, most probably a UK spec and possibly on a private plate (not much help, am I?) in Beaconsfield on Sunday afternoon (12th). It was on the Penn Road just outside the New Town - Z was heading into Beaconsfield and I was in a silver Rav-4 heading towards Penn. I flashed my lights as we passed - but as I wasn't in my Z you probably thought I was just a bit mad........;) Richard:D
  2. Sure did! I had mine fully rebuild last year and with the addition of a re-con torque converter as well, the whole lot came to about £1400 inc VAT.... Richard:cool:
  3. Spot on there Pete:bow: Richard:cool:
  4. The standard plugs for a ZX are platinum tipped anyway so they last 60k miles. I doubt that iridiums will last any longer than that...... Richard:)
  5. As helpful as ever there Jeff...... .......and many thanks for doing mine for me last month:cool: Richard:)
  6. Me too...... .......reminds me of the 1992 Porsche 968 Club Sport.....in the same colour:x: Otherwise I do quite like the 370z. They look good in white; like the one I saw at the Geneva motor show Richard:)
  7. I have to say that whilst I'm not a real fan of plain white cars..... .........it does look very good on a Z32. Naf's car (The Rat) is one of the best here I reckon! Richard:)
  8. Yes; the donor car must me MOTd and taxed. You cannot do it at a PO - you need to go to a local DVLA office. You need the reg transfer form or reg retention document if the private plate is not yet on a car. Richard:cool:
  9. Congrats on your purchase...... ......to answer your question; yes you can use the new keeper's supplement from the seller's V5 before you get your own V5. You just need to complete an application for a V5 and submit it to your local DVLA regional office with the reg transfer documents. I have done this many times when I've bought a new car. Richard:cool:
  10. That looks dead good mate:dance: A real improvement - I've never been a fan of the VS front bumper;) Richard:)
  11. V-power or BP Ultimate etc will be fine on their own..... Richard:)
  12. Hey Allan, I voted "yes" you'll miss it........ .........The 300zx is one of those few cars with a (metaphorical, maybe) soul. It's the only car I've owned that I really became attached to. I don't drive mine that much now - perhaps 3000 miles p/a - but each time I drive it, I realize what a great car it is. My daily drive is no bland crap mobile either; so I think that comment is justified :p I've driven a couple of Evos and "Pratsticks" (great phrase for that particular car mate:bow:), and whilst they can be fast as well as posessing legendary handling, they left me cold. No style to match the substance IMO and they lack the class, presence and occasion of a classic GT car (such as a 300zx or a Porsche 928). Did I enjoy driving the Scoobys and Evos? Yes. Would I own either one? No! For starters, they are as common as pigeon poo and look like any other family saloon but with an ironing board nailed to the boot. Also I found it hard to "pootle along" in either of them so no doubt I'd have no driving licence after a month or 2. Give me the ZX, 928gts or (old-ish) Aston V8 as a weekend toy (I'll keep my current daily driver) and I'll be happy....... Richard:cool: PS if it helps you Allan, I'd have the Audi S4 over an Evo or "Pratstick" :p
  13. Could be a scam mate..... .....bin it; then wait and see if anything else turns up in the post. Certainly don't part with £500. Richard
  14. Sooo true...... ......plus the slightly cooler evening air is better for the turbos (as opposed to 31 degrees in the daytime).... Richard:cool:
  15. Exactly what he said....... ........it's important to keep the rolling circumference as close to stock as possible to ensure the speedo works; and that the measurement is the same front to rear to it doesn't affect ABS etc. So, 2 combinations are: rear = 245/40/17 and front 225/45/17 or rear = 255/40/17 and front 235/45/17 The profile is the aspect ratio of the width - ie 40 = 40% of 255; hence with the narrower fronts you must use "45" profiles. 40% of 255 = 102 and 45% of 235 = 105.75; close enough. But using "40" on the front = 235 x 40% = 94; too far away from the 102 of the rears.... Hope that makes sense Richard:)
  16. 'Fraid I have to agree with Jeff....... Richard:headvswal
  17. Each to their own and all that - but the engine is simply disguised by the plastic covers and, unless you have a FunkySi or Steve300zx style re-trim, then the leather seats in a Merc are way better quality than those in a ZX mate (I speak from personal ownership/experience);) I reckon that's more down to the quality of the photos rather than the car........ Richard:cool:
  18. Exactly! JeffTT (Zedworld) has just replaced mine for the MOT - he does it for £400 plus VAT;) Richard
  19. The CLK is a nice car and I still prefer that version over the latest one. That looks a good buy to me - an ideal daily driver!! They also did a 430 with a 4.3V8 and about 280bhp. I did consider buying one a few years back and found it a bit "soft" for my liking so I bought an SLK instead. I have been a Merc fan ever since and as such I'm on my second SLK now; they have definately sorted their "bad patch" with build quality issues - it must have been a blip..... Richard:)
  20. The third car is a Capri;) Richard

I was thinking that but without any more details of the car I can't comment. However, if you want a manual then buy a manual that needs work rather than an auto that needs work. After all you will still have the extra cost of the conversion after you have fixed everything else to get it to your liking. If that makes sense........ ...........Only buy an auto if the car is sound to begin with; then you will only have the cost of the conversion later when your funds permit. Richard:cool:
  22. HAve to agree with that mate:bow: Richard;)
  23. This is just my opinion - and I expect many will not agree but 1 or 2 will - but if you're using a decent fully synthetic like Mobil-1, then 3000 mile/3 month changes are unnecessary/overkill. I'd leave it at least 6k miles or 12 months even on a twin turbo. 3000 miles is not enough time for a fully synthetic oil to do its stuff. I'm sure Oilman posted a thread about that some time back...... Richard:cool:
  24. I thought so too - and the sound track was good:hyper: Richard:cool:
  25. My favourites were..... Billy Jean Give In To Me Dirty Dianna Thriller Bad ..............in no particular order. And more appropriately now........ .....a little known track from Bad (IIRC) called Gone Too Soon:cry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0mcxmCGetI RIP Michael - a sad loss to music IMO. Richard:(
