Graphics or No Graphics
I hate graphics on any car - so IMO it looks better without! But it's your car mate and if you like the look; do what you think is best. Richard:)

Occasional smoke???
It could be the first sign of turbo rear seal failure..... ......or something simple like PCV valves needing replacement. Also, how often do you use the car? Sometimes lack of use will cause a little smoke from time to time - give the car a good run and see if it smokes on idle afterwards. As for the idle speed - yes; it's normal for the revs to increase when the a/c is switched on;) Richard:)

NEW Head Moderator
Thanks everyone!! I'm only too pleased to "do my bit" for the club;) And a special thanks to Allan who has done a superb job as Head Mod. You'll be a tough act to follow mate:bow: Richard:)

Jacking Up the Z
DO NOT jack the car under he rear of the front wings (they may "pop out") or under the door sills (unless using the OE jack) otherwise you risk mis-shaping the seams and the sills. Especially if you lift more than one corner at a time!!! If using any kind of hydraulic jack, then position it under the chassis or cross member. Richard:cool:

finished with the girlfriend
Mate - I'm sorry to hear that:( I'm no good with personal advice or the "tea & symathy" thing; however this forum is (sometimes) a great place to find the answer to life's problems - and not just car stuff. The two fine fellows below have said it better than I ever could. I sincerely hope you find your way back mate. ATB Richard:)

i have boost!!!!!!!!!!
Nice one Peter..... ....bring on that XKR!! Richard:)

The joys of Zed ownership?
2nd here and no leaks either! Use a good silicone spray to clean, saturate & replenish the rubber on a regular basis - it keeps the seals nice and healthy! Richard:)

Don't think this will polish out!!!
How can anyone have escaped death in that:shock:

jag xkr
No worries - you're welcome mate!! That 4.2 version is damn fast - and there's a company (if they're still around) near me called Paramount Performance who specialize in upgrading the Jags. Some of their XKRs push out 5-600bhp:bow: Richard:cool:

Drink Driving
One thing though - a drink driving conviction stays on your licence for 10 (or 11 years); not the usual (*) 4 years like with other offences! Plus I think that DR penalties are from the date of conviction, not the offence. And it's a criminal offence; not just a motoring conviction! Richard:x: * I know that points are only valid for 3 years but you cannot get them removed from your licence for 4;)

Shift at will kit.
Oh I don't know;) - lots of new automatic cars come with optional paddle shift today. I have it on my SLK350; the auto box switches between comfort, spoty and manual. Using the manual setting and the steering wheel paddles can be quite fun during sprited A/B road driving. Pretty annoying round own though; and I reckon that auto/sport mode is quickest. But that's down to my (lack of:o) skill.... I'd be willing to try the conversion on my ZX........ Richard:)

Shes gone
I feel for you mate..... ......but congratulations on the sale. I hope you got a good price! Richard:)

A few more bits done today......
Cheers Phil - I love the car! It drives superbly; smooth and fast - and with the exhaust fitted it sounds good as well. Not loud, just "right." I hadn't planned to do half the things I've done but it just sort of happened........ Once it's back from the body shop I'll take some proper pics (ie not with my phone!) and update "my rides" accordingly. That's good news about the collector's Z. Those bits you mentioned were the only negative things on the car; otherwise it was spot on! But now you've fixed them it'll be a true one-off example! Jeff's the right person to take it to as well - I look forward to seeing your progress! Richard:)

jag xkr
Hi Peter, It's probably very close mate! That XKR runs almost 400bhp and despite the weight they are very fast cars; I believe 0-60 comes in anywhere between 5.2 and 5.5 (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) and they are very quick to 100............... .........a standard ZX twin turbo would have to be in very good running order to stand a chance IMO. But if it is, then I doubt there's much in it! Richard:)

A few more bits done today......
Hi Phil, You're right - only the driver's door and near side rear wing to do! It's booked in this Thursday; hopefully I can get them to give the lower part of the front bumper a blow over too, to remove the stone chips and that small scuff! And to everyone else; thanks for the comments;) Richard:)

Car pulling to the left
Just because the tracking has recently done, it doesn't mean that it was done correctly. Not everyone is capable of getting it right on a ZX!! Is the steering wheel straight? Cars with HICAS need to have the wheel "properly" straight to ensure the HICAS sensors read the steering position correctly. As Jeff says, check all 4 wheels are correctly alligned and ensure the technician sets the steering wheel dead straight. Richard:)

Oil pressure
Exactly what he said - JeffTT explained it exactly like that when he replaced my old one last month! He dismantled one once to see how it worked;) True...... .......but when the engine is cold and the pressure is higher, the moving part inside the sender unit is not sitting on the variable resistor surface that is prone to wear! So when the engine is cold and the pressure is higher, the sender can read and report the pressure correctly. Once "normal" temp is reached and the pressure reaches the usual running level, the sender cannot read the pressure so it drops to zero-ish!! The "normal" level is where the moving part spends most of its time; therefore that part wears quicker... Richard:)

And all is revealed.....
Nice one Isaac! Richard:)

Chrome Door Handles - Success!!!
That looks great buddy........ .......I must get a pair of those as well. It's a nice subtle upgrade and it certainly adds a bit more of a quality feel to the interior. Nice write up as well!! Richard:)

slicktop on piston heads
Richard, please! I guess you're not to know I'm not keen on having my name shortened (especially to Rik:rofl:)....:) Thanks for the comments though - much appreciated!! I got the black strip from Mike at MJP; it was about £12! Richard:cool:
