auto box again
That's very cheap - when the 'box failed in my red ZX I paid a specialist about £1400 for a full strip down and re-build. HOpefully it is something simple - but then replacing a failed 'box with a 2nd hand one is always going to be a gamble. JeffTT does the manual conversion for around £1600 all in it if helps..... Headlamp washers....
No worries Phil... I didn't think it might be the motor - if so, I'll continue without them. it's not like I use the car often enough in bad weather to worry about it..... Actually no, they don't! I do remember this happened on my red ZX though..... .....so perhaps I'll look at the relay and fuses after all...!! Thanks everyone!! Richard:cool2:

Headlamp washers....
I know - it's just that I have OCD and that's the only thing on my Z that doesn't work...... The only Z I have ever seen them working on was The Sultan of Brunai's; now owned by PhilP....:thumbup1: Richard:laugh:

Lynbrooks don't deal with the public direct?
I've been with Lynbrooks for about 3 years now and I've always dealt direct too. Lynbrooks are brokers; it's the actual insurance companies (EG redstar or Chaucers) whom you won't be able to contact directly for a quote...... ......Are you certain you haven't rung the insurer's line directly? Headlamp washers....
A recent "what's wrong with your Z" thread got me thinking.... .....as the only thing that doesn't work on mine is the headlamp wash system. There's no noise from the motor at all when pressing the button (yes; before you ask, I did try with the lights on.......). So I was thinking fuse or/and relay; any thoughts/ideas please? And where would I find the fuse/relay for it as I don't think it's in the main fuse box under the bonnet? Thanks, Richard:thumbup1:

Hid lights
I bought an H3 set (4300k temperature) from them for my ZX and I have to say for under £60 I was pretty impressed! I did also buy their H4 Hi-Lo conversion, however that was not so good; but they gave me a full refund, no quibbling, within a few days. http://www.hids-direct.co.uk If you do use your ZX as a daily driver, then I'd say play it safe; spend a bit more and buy a kit from Danny. Audi tt/ boxtser / S2000.
I agree with Martin - the Boxster has always, and still, receives rave reviews as the best drivers' car in its class; and remains the benchmark for newer entries like the latest Z4 etc. As for Nick's "slow" comments - sorry mate; a Boxster will stuff a Mondeo! The 3.2s will give a stock ZX twin turbo a run for its money..... And let's be honest, all cars in this class have a bit of a "girly" reputation and the S2000 is no exception; it's no less "girly" than the others. At least the competition also has some "more manly" bigger engined/powered versions whereas the S2000 comes in the one guise! The only thing against the Boxster for me was luggage space; I need room for a suitcase or 2 when going on hols. So I plumped for the front engined RWD choice (with a retractable hard top for all round practicality) and bought an SLK350. Superb build quality; great V6 and, no, a Mondeo will certainly not keep up with it!! The 7G tip 'box gives a 0-62 time of 5.4 with 100 coming up very soon after; there's a good torque band (with the maximum available from something like 2-5000rpm) so it's probably faster than my ZX until the silly speeds. Mine is 4 years (and 50k miles) old now so I'm thinking about looking for another; and I would not hesitate to buy the same again...... Richard:cool3:

Black box Relfection
Good point Phill; but for around 20 years now most automotive paint finishes involve a clear coat laquer over the top - even flat ones! The colour specific elements of such polishes mask or reduce slight imperfections and swirl marks in most finishes that appear over time (due to washing, atmospheric contaminants etc) and enhance the overall glossy reflectiveness of the base colour. Whack on a protective "super" wax layer over that to seal in the shine and it will last for months! Richard:chef:

Bloody shop assistants
I understand what you mean mate - especially the lazy "yoof" employed on Saturdays......:2guns: One Christmas I went to buy some wrapping paper and boxes of cards etc from Clinton's. I was the only customer in the shop as everyone else had obviously not bothered to get out of bed so early! Anyway I as I approached the counter with armfulls of stuff, the two dozy bints were too busy engrossed in their conversation about some party/bloke/etc etc to bother serving me. I waited a couple of minutes before interrupting; to which one said something like "do you mind, we're talking!!" I'm normally a calm and rational person but I was so apalled at their attitude, that I just said "forget it" and threw my purchases in the air and walked out..... It's a sad indictment on the general "me me me" attitude all too often seen throughout the country at the moment. Richard:censored:

Best original Z32 TT?
Hi Phil, I fully understand buddy - I guess our priorities do change from time to time!! I'm afraid Friday is indeed the only day I can make JAE; I'm off on holiday Saturday morning. Your old blue car is also doing just fine too; I cleaned it ready for JAE yesterday and everything is working perfectly as usual! It would have been nice to catch up as it's just over a year since I bought the car from you. In fact I've had to increase the mileage for insurance cover - I've done over 5k in it! Still if I'm ever up in your neck of the woods I'll give you a call.... Richard:thumbup1:

Best original Z32 TT?
I'm going to agree with this as well! I've seen this car in the flesh a couple of times - I went to view it when it was being auctioned (and took it for a test drive); and I saw it again (after Phil bought it) when I bought Phil's blue ZX. This is a superb, true collector's, example!! And Phil, as for JAE, I know you're planning on bringing your GTR, but what about your other ZX - that's a truly superb example as well; with only minor enhancements to improve it from "standard" Richard:cool3:

who is the richest person you know?
Good point Martin, and no surprise to me! But property aside, if any of those folk could lay their hands on £1m in cash (of their own money) right away, they'd still be in a pretty exclusive club! Richard Sorry mate - I clicked edit instead of quote! Richard:o

Anyone used `Turtle wax black box`???
Nice one buddy - I'll be in touch mate!! Thanks again! Richard:cool2:

Anyone used `Turtle wax black box`???
No idea; as it must weigh >=5kg - but the post office can get a bit funny about posting liquids though! Are you going to JAE per chance? If not; I'm going to the IOW on hols from 11th to 18th September; sailing from Portsmouth. That's not a million miles from you so I'd be happy to wait and collect it then.... Thanks in advance mate - you're a star! Richard:batman:

Anyone used `Turtle wax black box`???
Ooh!! Yes please mate - I am almost out after waxing Julia's car this morning.... Richard:thumbup1:

Anyone used `Turtle wax black box`???
Hi daz, No - I haven't used it mate! I now have 2 black cars (just bought Juila another Rav-4) and I found the best/longest lasting finish is to first polish with Colour magic; and then a coat of Turtle Wax Platinum Extra Protective Gloss over the top..... ......The Platinum stuff really seals in the shine and gives superb protection. In fact it won the Auto Axpress award for best wax last year - beating Collinite et al..... Plus it's under a tenner at Halfords and doesn't take much effort to apply!! (It does eat through latex gloves in a couple of minutes though..............) Richard:chef:
