Legality of towing, Advice needed
That's what I thought too Rob. If a car is not taxed or insured then it must not be placed upon the public highway except for travel to/from a pre-booked MOT. Towing is the same as using/parking on the public road. However you can transport an untaxed/uninsured car on a transporter; ie not touching the road at all. Richard:chef:

help :(
Mate; Smithy's first few words are the most important. Unless all of your car's faults have suddenly materialized in the last day or two since getting your car back, they must have been present or latent all along. My view - no disrespect to Darren - is that any bad running issues that were present, should have been identified whilst your car was in for repair. You've paid out a few £££s by the sound of it; so if it were my money I'd want value for it! Good luck buddy, Richard:yes:

aliens
That's my opinion as well; generally..... ......I'd say we're definitely not alone in the universe; but will the others reach us? Who knows - but all those claimed UFO sightings? There's got to be something in that. I guess they could just be "unmanned" probes like we have sent out in space. Richard:cool2:

oil pressure on n/a
Most probably down to a faulty sender unit..... .....it's a common fault; but the Nissan part is quite expensive for what it is! Richard:cool3:

car started idling at 2k today
Hi Damien, I'd definitely take your car back to the garage and explain all the issues that either were not fixed first time round; or have just materialized since you got it back. You have paid for something to be done and, whilst even the best of us make mistakes, it's how the person concerned deals with their mistakes that really counts. Richard:chef:

smoke/steam
They are a bit fiddly I believe (on par with most other things on a 300zx). I also think JEff does sell the valves; although if you're not too far from Zedworld he does a good deal on the full supply and fit! Plus Jeff will give your car a good "once over" as well.... Richard:cool3:

Im New!
Welcome to the club! As for your suggestion of putting the VG30DETT in a BMW; I'd say don't! Not because I'm biased or anything; but you'd simply be better off sticking with a BMW engine in an E36. Now the idea of shoe-horning a nicely tuned BMW 4.4 V8 into a 300zx..... Hmmm!! Richard:thumbup1:

Removing scratches on glass
Hi all, can anyone recommend a compound that will removescratches from glass (or at least reduce their appearance? I have a few scuffs on the driver's side window of my ZX; and I also seem to have got a light single scratch about 5 inches long on the driver's window of my SLK..... Thanks, Richard:pinch:

best stuff for restoring leather?
I've used Gliptone products on my previous classic cars; including a 1975 Jaguar XJ6 and a 1991 Mk3 Soop. They did the job very well - the dye covered the scuff marks; the cleaner removed almost all traces of muck etc and the conditioner restored the finish and made everything nice and soft. Plus it put that "proper" leather smell back as well!! And as Vijay said - Woollies to an excellent kit as well! Richard:thumbup:

Brake pad advice
That's a good buy mate! I had mine fitted by Jeff along with some nice new slotted/drilled discs; the whole thing was about £250 all in! Richard:cool2:

Z31
I always liked the Z31; I remember Bruce Willis drove one in the movie "Blind Date!" Although IIRC it had an awful "car bra" thing..... I have to agree; there too the Mk3 Soop knocked the Z31 for six..... ....until the Z32 came along!! Richard:cool3:

Brake pad advice
It depends what effect you are after...... .....genuine Nissan are just fine; although Mintex are a good stock replacement and don't cost too much! JeffTT sells the Mintex pads; or you can try Mike at MJP for Stillen ones. I've had both and they do the job just fine. Although Mintex are half the cost of Stillen. If you want the best though, I hear that Porterfields are the dogs danglies.... Uk and J-spec are the same BTW! Richard:chef:

Parking eye
I wouldn't pay it mate..... These private firms have no right in law to demand who was driving the car at the time; unlike the safety camera partnerships. Sure, they can send the registered keeper a penalty charge notice but you are not obliged to say you were driving. And that is the important part. It is the driver who parked the car and entered into the contract with the industrial park owners; not the car's owner. So you admit to owning the car but not driving it at the time and there's nothing they can do. In fact I had one a couple of years back and I sent a letter saying pretty much that. I finished by saying that "I would reply to their first letter free of charge; and my second and third letters would also be free. However if I received a 4th letter then I would levy a charge of £50 for replying to that; plus a further £50 for each of my first 3 letters to cover my time and inconvenience. Furthermore my invoice for £200 must be paid within 7 days otherwise I will seek recovery through the small claims court for an unpaid debt; along with further damages for the emotional distress [they] caused me in hounding me for payment of a fine that was not my legal responsibility!!" You know what - after I sent a second letter - which was almost exactly the same as the first, they soon dropped it!! Richard:chef:

Got my car back :)
Glad you got it back; and yes whilst the speed limit is 70 these cars should still be capable of hitting the 155mph limiter without batting an eyelid..... ......plus I'd still wonder what else was not working correctly between 0 and 70 if the car struggled at 95. Was it specifically at 95mph; or was it at a specific rev band (that coincided with 95mph in a higher gear)? Is yours a J-spec that is still limited at 112mph? I'd take it back for further investigation if it were my car.... Richard:cool2:
