  1. Is that not the opposite mate? I thought that if you send (say) £10 as a gift, the sender pays the fee in order that the recipient receives the full £10.....! As said above, if you're buying, you pay your tenner and the recipient (IE the club) incurs the fees upon drawing down the funds....? Richard:biggrin:
  2. As ever Chris - thanks for your support; we know we can take your word after so many years..... ....And regarding Paypal fees, you don't pay them when you're buying mate - we do upon receipt, you just pay your £10... Richard:cool:
  3. Welcome to the club Mark....... You could indeed drop Mike a line - but seeing as he sources a lot of parts from the USA in the first instance, he might be able to arrange something for you Stateside. You never know! But as said above, the market for 300zx parts here is a fraction of the size of that in the USA - hence the reason we all buy parts from your side of the pond; as they are much cheaper over there!! Good luck my friend, Richard:cool:
  4. What he said......
  5. Close - more like about 1997-2003 depending on the model..... so a couple of years either side is a safe bet when working out which to avoid:wink: The first generation CLK, whilst it "looked" like a coupe version of the W210 E-class, it was based on the C-class chassis. And yes, that model did suffer from rust - plus the 230k engine had a problem with the breather system failing; which dumped a shit load of oil in the MAF and killed it. I had that happen in my 2000 SLK230 - cost me nearly £1000 to replace the MAF and have the pipes fully cleaned out!! And as for power, there was very little in the 230k and 320 v6; so opt for the V6 for smoother effortless power. Oh and with a Merc, forget the manuals, they're crap - autos are better and faster when engine capacity and BHP increase!! W211 E-class from c2002 onward were good - quality and rust issues were resolved with the new model. S430 is lovely - but remember the S430 cost bundles when new - so expect to pay £70k car running costs, even though it's an old car now. Plus it's only recently that MB, along with many other German manufacturers, have made their big V-formation engines as economical as a 2.0i from the early 2000s; the S430 will drink faster than a student at happy hour in the college bar!!! If you can, buy yourself a reasonably economic daily driver; use your NCB on that to keep premiums down and keep your Zed insured on a classic policy. You'll most likely find you can insure both for under £600 Richard:cool:
  6. Eeeek - not seen anything like that before......!!!
  7. Welcome back to the fold mate - and good luck with your new purchase!! Richard:cool:
  8. I don't doubt that in any way mate - but for me, an in-line 4-cylinder will always have limited appeal..... Even though I *might* have considered the mighty AMG45 or new Golf R as a daily driver, another V6 just got the better of me - and only then, because I kept my sensible head on and resisted the urge to fulfil my desire for full-on V8 ownership.... Richard:flowers:
  9. There are plenty of e-mails going around, purporting to be from Paypal and asking you to log in to check your activity etc.... NEVER click on ANY links in an e-mail; delete it and then log onto Paypal by tying the proper URL into your browser manually (or via favourites, if you have already saved the "proper" page). Same goes for other secure 'sites, like your banks, credit card accounts etc - always make sure you type their web addresses directly into your browser yourself!!!
  10. I'm going with that one - and not just my Zed, but any car I might ever own.....:nono:
  11. Good luck Graham - hope you have it sorted in time for JAE matey!! Richard:clover:
  12. Welcome to the club Steve! Richard:cool:
  13. Cool - great news Ted....
  14. Nicely put Ian.....
  15. I have merged your accounts together under your old account name now mate - plus I've updated your e-mail address to the new one and sent a password reminder.... Any problems please email me on richardsmith at 300zx.co.uk Welcome back to the fold!! Richard:cool:
  16. Welcome to the club Liam - and good luck with your new purchase!! Richard:cool:
  17. Sound advice indeed.....:clover:
  18. Hi and welcome Adam.... Lexx has a very good point there - the car looks tidy in the photos, but there could be a lot hidden away.... My advice would be to go and have a good look before you buy; and see if someone on here local to you can pop along as well..... Good luck in your search mate, Richard:clover:
  19. Yup - what Gaz said Adam! It's good to see you're back with us mate - and we're all rooting for you to pull through!! Richard:thumbup:
  20. Glad to hear you are pleased with your new toy Viper.... .....And as for the 400bhp MR2 Turbo; there's only so much appeal a 4-banger can have (and so much power it can take).... So irrespective of how good that might have seemed, you just cannot beat a V-formation engine - or replace cubic capacity for real petrol-headed enjoyment....
  21. Sorry to hear that mate - I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery..... Richard:flowers:
  22. I am going to agree with Si on this one.... ....Going on the recent successes of Coventry and Beaulieu, I hate to say it, but I reckon the whole "car show in a field" idea is getting old. Whereas Coventry and Beaulieu had another, major, attraction to keep people interested - and to provide something for our wives/girlfriends/children etc to do, as opposed to standing around with a few Zedheads talking cars. IE those events were also proper days out; and not just another car show/meet..... I reckon this type of thing is the way forward - JAE/Japfest etc are different, in that they are for much more than just one genre/marque of car. But for car (or Z/ZX) specific meets, it is certainly worth holding a gathering at a major tourist attraction - just to make it a day out for everyone. As a regular visitor to National Trust properties, I have seen many a car club holding very well patronised events/shows on my travels; from the MGB owners club, Jaguar Enthusiast's club right up to Rolls Royce and Bentley owners club meets, whilst I just happened to have been there! Don't get me wrong, impromptu pub meets are also great - but they are local and (now) rarely draw a dozen cars out. If you want to increase attendances, arrange events at places where members can bring their families for a real day out; and somewhere with half decent catering already provided; not just a dodgy burger van!! We all lead busy lives - and weekend time spent with our partners/families is precious; so if we stage shows where our families can join us and not be bored shitless, I reckon we'll get more takers. Richard:cool:
  23. PMSL...... Or else he's another internet scammer, just trying to obtain our mothers' maiden names in order to hack into our bank accounts.....:shifty::rofl::wink:
  24. RIP indeed - a sad loss to comedy and acting...
  25. Yup agreed - and top work Jimmer, as always....
