turbos after decats
From the last thread http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?167320-decatt-advice Saying they dead is a tad dramatic, nowt stopping you removing the turbo and fitting new piston ring seals, afterall it is only that component part greatly effected. Your gauranteed a power hike and better performance, there is a likelyhood that yes, if your turbo's rear piston ring seal is already worn through either age or neglect it will give up sooner than it would have done had you not decatted. This is something well known by the bigger and older established turbo companies, hence why a few now supply stagger gap piston ring seals as used on race cars that are turbo'd and have little or no back pressure. Can it happend and is luck of the draw on reconned turbo's? yes it can! smithy

As you sit in the car, your right foot as it sits on the accelerator, move your foot further to the right, theres a panel there on the side, remove this and inside are fuses/relays. smithy

Water sloshing sound - Plan of attack
1st thing is take the targas off and pour water down the drain holes and you should see it coming out under the sill, if you don't then it's blocked or partly blocked. The exit tube has a habit of snapping off so highly likely water is only going as far as inside the sills. If that's the case and it were me, i'd park the car on a slope, drill a hole in the sill at the back end, let water out and fix the drain tube. smithy

decatt advice
1) When people say "turbo seal" they are referring to the piston ring seal in a turb, not everyone knows the correct terminology. 2) In the Back pressureMyth link, unless i missed it i didn't spot the differences between a N/A car and a Turbo'd car. This is important as obviously N/A's don't rely on back pressure, however many if not most Turbo'd cars do and that's a fact! 3) For standard and certainly OEM turbo's in a Zed they will have done some serious mileage and may or may have not been looked after with regular Oil changes, Piston ring seals like any component part will wear in time, hence why MANY have decatted and very soon noticed smoking exhaust. Removing catts alters the back pressure in a Turbo to the point of lessening it, the floating seal is now no longer "sealed" thus allowing oil to burn in the exhaust and cause smoke. 4) I have personal experience being years ago a supplier of turbo's from Turbo tecnics whose reconed and new turbo's fitted on a Zed weeped oil on an already decatted Zed in time. They in turn designed a breather kit, this only worked on Zeds with a poor PCV system. Turbo Dynamics supplied as standard on replacement Zed turbo's the "Stagger gap" piston ring seal soley for the purpose to prevent leakage when altering back pressure, something which is needed on a turbo car to help achieve power. Needless to say for the next 4 years i supplied their turbo's and never seen a single one returned due to oil seapage. Lastly, when looking at serious power cars you often see the exhaust is shortend and sometimes exits at the front wing or under the side of the car, greatly reducing pressure in the system, owners/builders of these cars do so at a risk to the turbo's lifespan and they accept it in exchange for performance. Oh and catts or no catts, you put Oil in a hot exhaust and it's coming out as pure smoke baby, nothing ain't gonna stop that! Smithy

GTZ front lip spoiler
These things due to their size ain't the cheapest to import mate, Mr F sells them for 230 quid delivered in UK, with yours already fixed to the bumper may make life easier. So around 130 quid wouldn't be a bad price imo. smithy

Spark Plugs - What does everyone use in their TT?
To clarify, the end design differs between the B and C plug which you referred to earlier. The US upped from a 5b to a 611b as an upgrade when modding, we in the UK when we became aware of the slight design difference between the US plug and the UK plug and after speaking with NGK UK found that the spark was stronger when using the US 11b plug. Hope that makes sense lol. Searching on here from when i used to sell these plugs should hopefully provide you links to a members meeting with NGK and the results of that, in case relevant to your research. Oh the only thing i know that resulted in slight changes to US engines (not internally) was their stricter emissions and varying and mixed additives in octane fuel smithy

Spark Plugs - What does everyone use in their TT?
The US are/were unique in running 5's and their plug was/is the 5-11B, however UK and Japan as standard are 6's and it's the 6-11c NOT 11B as in the US. Because the B is slightly longer than the C, the B was seen as an upgrade for UK/Japan cars, NGK who were commissioned by Nissan to design the plug for all countries for the Zed, confirmed themselves some years ago that running the US plug in UK/Japan cars (modified) would be of benefit. There were reasons why the US used warmer plugs than the rest of UK/Japan. So in short, we all should already as a minimum be running 6's even standard Zeds. HTH Smithy

autobox to man
If yer getting your box of Andy, just get a TT flywheel as well which he's bound to have and then a new TT clutch unless a very good second hand one comes up for sale, job done! If Andy also has a clutch booster which he'd sell cheapish, buy it and fit it that too, sure he'd discount for a few parts. Also Zedworld have quite large stocks of second hand parts, give them a bell to see what they have. smithy

gtr 33 calipers or r33 calipers?
Overpriced but the only ones on Ebay i could find. IMO they are about a 100 quid too dear considering their condition. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JDM-Nissan-Skyline-GTR-R33-Brembo-4-Pot-Calipers-Brake-1995-1996-1997-1998-/230881423327?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c19aefdf Surf the Skyline forums then you'll know your getting the real deal. smithy

gtr 33 calipers or r33 calipers?
Ok again and plain and simple. GTR brakes are often called simply just R, so your looking for Brembo's in Usually Black (sometimes Red) of an R33 (GTR) you must fit GTR discs which are 324mm, YES! The whole lot just bolts on. Should you see GOLD Brembo's they can be GTR34 or Z33 they simply require drilling 2 holes bigger by 2mm, simple and easy job. again fit the Skyline GTR discs 324mm if the calipers came from a GTR or if the calipers (Gold) came from a Z33 you MUST fit discs that fit a Z33 and again these are 324mm. Questions to ask a seller, what make/model car did these come off? have you any discs to fit? Smithy

To have something a wee bit different to the norm costs that bit extra, or you could of course try to get some cash back by having something copied! smithy
