  1. I have had one for over a year now, and they are great. Took me a destination right in the middle of Birmingham. If I didnt have that I dont think I would have made it.
  2. You should not be able to hear any boiling of the water. If you can hear what sounds like boiling, it usually means there is a leak or an air lock. Could it not be the AVI?
  3. I remember chipping my car and upping the boost for the first time. I shat my pants it was so much faster :D
  4. There is deffinataly a leak some where. The temp gauge usually shoots to the top of the gauge when there is no water reaching the sensor, caused by not enough water in the system. I am currently in the middle of taking my engine apart (again) and although I suspected there was a water/oil leak I could see no sign in the water or on the oil filler cap. However when I took the cam covers off there was quite a lot of cream on the cam cover, showing there is a leak. You are better off doing a compression test to see if there is anything obvious, but its hard to diagnose a head gasket problem from that alone, but it could give you a clue. You could do an oil change and use some flushing fluid to get it all out. You may see evidence of creaming there.
  5. Have you run a ABS diagnostic?
  6. The new golf was only a few lb off being twice the weight of the original GTi
  7. Top Gear had a straight race between the Golf R32 and the original GTi. The 1.8 GTi won I think
  8. Well no it was a stupid question. ;) You may as well ask how to stop the birds singing in the morning, or how to make bees stop buzzing.
  9. This has been attempted so many times it will not work. The petrol has been going up due to war, terrorism and China increasing economy. Not buying petrol on a Monday will not help solve these problems.
  10. That will throw up an error. I tested it one day with one of the sensors. I was changing one, and I made it so the sensor was just a little too far away to detect the wheel. As soon as I reached about 5mph the light came on. I also tried it with the sensor unplugged. Then the ABS stayed on.
  11. There is a ABS diagnostic. Have a look at the online manual on how to activate it.
  12. It is possible they didnt know they did it. There is nothing behind that part of the bumper so it will give with out any indication from the other car they have made contact. I once saw a woman trying to reverse into a space next to 4x4 and smashed in all the side of the car on the 4x4's bull bars. The car would have been close to a write off after she did that. She got out the car as nothing happened.
  13. I phoned for a bank enquiry for my TSB account, and got through to some Indian or something like that. NOt sure if it was a off shore call centre but I could not understand a word she was saying. My security question was what was my last transaction with my Debit card at HMR. HMR? "Yes on the 19th you used my card at HMR" So I failed the security question and I could not go further until they sent a letter to my house. I phoned back straight away and got through to an English person, and was asked "How much was my purchase on the 19th in the Trafford Centre HMV shop" HMR indeed.!
  14. Its if they get broken the shouldnt drop glass on the track. The tape should hold it together
  15. I think he should get 10 posts taken off, for wasting valuable server DB space ;)
  16. Standard is 186-142 (I think) and there should be no more than 14 psi difference between the cylinders. The gauge is probably a little bit out, but not much. Good quality tools dont tend to get that inaccurate over time. All cyinders are down, but they are all down together. The engine is a little worn, but least its wearing down even. Nothing a set of over sized rings wont cure. :D :D
  17. He must get loads of fluff on his feet every day.
  18. Do you think there would be interest in a Z day track day? We tried to organise one a few years ago, but there was a lot of talk but no action. A lot of people giving excuses. :( We also tried to get a few from the ZClub to bring some classic cars with them. Bet that would generate some magizine coverage too. What do people think? Z track day?
  19. Of course you are going to hear about people's engine problems. You dont need advice when your engine is running well. I think we need to start a "My car is going well" thread.
  20. If you have Windows XP, use the Movie Maker software you get with it. Its very easy and rather good for doing simple things
  21. For some reason one side costs twice as much as the other. The only difference is the length of wire., I think the one with shorter wire is more expensive.
  22. Aye not bad. Not had time to get online, been busy taking my engine apart again ;)
  23. Dont think it does. I dont remember seeing any pump on the box diagram
  24. I got my car when I was 20. NOt has a crash, not been done for speeding either ;)
