Used to own a MX-5 (BBR Turbo;)) and the Saab intercooler swap was sometimes done for these cars but haven't heard it done for a Zed... Leigh

You "can" alter the duty cycle on the fly but TBH, with what you've told me so far, I would definately not run the amount of boost you have been till you get it checked out more thoroughly so just drop the duty cycle anyway. After doing this, take her for a run and if you're still hearing det, wind the boost down and repeat until you don't! ;) In all seriousness though, any overt smell of fuel should be looked into immediately mate, detonation aside for a moment, it just isn't worth the risk. Hope you get it sorted bud :) Leigh.

No worries mate :) The AVC-R gives boost figures in mmHg (millimetres of Mercury) and kgf/cm^2 (kilogrammes of force per centimetre squared). The kgf/cm^2 reading is different from "Bar" but TBH not by an awful lot! 1.2 kgf/cm^2 is approximately equivalent to 17 PSI. The sound you mentioned "could" be cause for concern though. Detonation (at its worst) is sometimes likened to the sound of beans rattling around in a can. If you think you're getting this back off the gas and lower the boost, you don't want your engine grenading itself! Depending on their condition, stock injectors "can" max out at 15PSI...have you uprated your fuelling system? TBH I'm not the chap to give you advice on this, there are far more engine savvy people on this BB than me e.g. John Dixon (top bloke) ;)

Right, this "may" help! First off the AVC-R has whats called a self-learn mode. This normally activates after altering the duty cycle and taking her for a couple of runs under heavy load...but it is notoriously un-reliable! Quite often it'll end up boosting way to high. Off the top of my head I believe the way to get rid of it is to go into the screen that says "Gears" or "Gearing"(?), you should see 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc with "O" below them, turn these "O's" to "X's". This should disable the self-learn mode. To alter the boost level you alter the duty cycle %. Start at around 50 to be on the safe side and take her for a couple of runs under heavy load. Note the stored peak boost level and raise/lower the duty cycle % accordingly to what you want to achieve. Correct me if I'm wrong guys (I probably am!) but I believe 0.90mmHg roughly equates to 13psi. You may want to set her up above or below this figure, I don't know your engine spec (Edit: just read it in your sig! Doh!;)), but as always, each car is different, so if you hear detonation, ease off and lower the boost sharpish! ;) As has been said though, THOR is THE best place to get it set-up. I've owned mine a while and I still don't know my way round all of it, which is why I'm going to get them to do mine! :D Hope this helps, Leigh.

Vented Bonnets
Tony, you could get in touch with these guys http://www.qvrefurb.co.uk/ They'd probably be able to fabricate something to your exact specifications. Cheers, Leigh.

Suzuki Cappuccino
My other half has just started taking driving lessons (love her to bits but glad I got out of having to teach her! :D ) and will hopefully be taking her test in a couple of months. Been talking together about getting another car for when (fingers crossed) she passes, trouble is, like me she prefers cars that are a bit "different"...bit of a problem when we don't have pots of money to spend on one and the insurance with her being a new driver and 18 could be daunting to say the least. Was at a classic and exotica car meet local to me not long ago and saw a Suzuki Cappuccino there....obviously no where near in the same league as the Zed but a crackin' little motor for what it is! Made the mistake of showing Lucie some pics of these cars on the net and she's fallen in love with them. Whaddya reckon people? Anyone know much about these cars? Cheers, Leigh

Zed install: buying hardware
Chris and Mark: Cheers for the links guys :) Mark, are you planning on completing you're install? Just wondering what screen you've got and if you've thought of selling it...;) The screen is one item I'm not sure about...ie what size/make I should go for and where it would be best sited... Also, found an interesting external soundcard the other night that seems ideal. A headunit in this set-up isn't necessary, but by not including one I'd lose the ability to easily control playback "on the fly". But the Soundblaster Audigy 2NX 7.1 external card comes with a remote control which would affectively take the place of a headunit for track/volume control. I'd just need to find a home for it somewhere! Cheers, Leigh.

Zed install: buying hardware
Continuing on from my post about an in-car computer install and after talking it over with JD (cheers bud ;)), it looks like this may be do-able. Almost 100% certain it's going to be built around a PC/104 processor which seems well suited for the task in hand. As for the rest, a 2 and a half inch "laptop style" hard drive, floppy drive, CD drive, USB Key drive, soundcard, track ball, mini-keyboard and screen (touch screen if finances allow). Could anyone recommend some good sites to buy from? Any help would be appreciated! :) Cheers, Leigh

Any help would be appreciated! :) Front Calliper: Calliper Height is 285mm Pad Height is 133mm Pad Depth is 60mm Mounting Hole PCD 155mm Rear Calliper: Calliper Height is 180mm Pad Height is 76mm Pad Depth is 45mm Mounting Hole PCD 115mm

In-car computer install. Advice needed!
Interesting read Kirbz, cheers, but I'm leaning towards a set-up based around the PC/104 type that John posted (must talk about them again with you soon mate!) as it would allow more flexibility, definately needed with some of the logging/tuning stuff it'll be running ;) Yeah Danny, that ashtray space and the compartment behind it is just crying out to be modified to accept a trackball etc! Ideally I'd like a larger screen than you'd find in a motorised head unit/screen combo which is why I was thinking along the lines of utilising the glove box (plus it would be tucked away out of sight, a definate bonus). Anymore ideas for the set-up guys? Plus if anyone could point me in the right direction for internet sites to buy the gear from it would be appreciated :) Leigh

In-car computer install. Advice needed!
Currently looking into the feasability of getting some sort of computer set up into a Zed. Its primary function would be data logging, running tuning and diagnostic software but it would also be used to store and play music (with or without a head unit). I would probably remove the gauges in the glove box and use the space to house the screen but not entirley sure how it would mount in there...it would need to be movable enough to be angled for viewing I imagine. Some sort of mini-keyboard interface would be ideal to. Got a few ideas at the moment but as there are a lot of knowledgeable IT guys on here I thought I'd ask for help and suggestions! :) Cheers, Leigh.

Wideband all running!
John's absolutely right, this weekend has really shown up two things. Firstly, what a great tool the Techedge sensor is and the potential it has to be a VERY worthwhile tuning aid and secondly, what a craftsman Leon is! Good to have confirmation that the root of the problem is definately the injectors not being able to cope... :nelson: ;) Was a crackin' blast in the Zed's over to Wrexham on Saturday mate, my clutch is still in recovery... ;) And Lucie and I had a great time today, cheers for the feed bud, I won't need to eat again for another two weeks now! Leigh
