  1. Ah, thats good to know. Is the key number just the one etched on the key itself? Seems a bit too obvious a way for someone to be able to copy your key. I do actually have a remote central locking alarm at the moment (another problem I have is only having one alarm remote!) so its really not a huge problem. I'm just trying to keep it all as neat as possible. By the sounds of it a compete second hand lock set would be the way forward if the part numbers are different. Are the locks easy to fit? I imagine the ignition switch is the trickiest! Cheers David
  2. I've got a miss matched set of locks on my zed. Basically the driver door lock has been replaced so I have a one-off key for that. The only other key I have is a red valet key. I was wondering if its possible to move the driver side door look the the passenger side (where its never used) and vice versa? And then if its possible to get a master key cut from the valet key? I've got a new blank on order at the moment. The alternative is a full second hand lock set but I could live without the expense and hassle to be honest!! Cheers David
  3. :) Well good to see you mate! I'm normally in my other car on my way to work so if somone in a silver Galant gives you a flash its just me working on autopilot!

Does look very nice. Where abouts in the North East are you? David
  5. Northbound in Tyne Tunnel. Gave you a flash and a wave but I was a bit slow spotting you. Roof off drive to work. Fantastic  David
  6. could you get me one of the black key blanks? Cheers David
  7. Nice one, looks the business. I finally got mine loose by loosening the nut a bit, me pulling them really hard while an assistant tapped them with a bit of wood and a hammer. Cleaned them with wire wool and meths then painted with halfords zinc undercoat then satin black. Look good as new, still raise a small smile when I look at them now :) David
  8. Didn't hear them but I spotted the luurvely shininess of them when I drove past the other day. Was wondering if they were new! Northern meet sounds good. Did you see the lake district meet metioned? that could be a fun drive over :) David
  9. ...and it was me waving like a pillock from my silver Galant on Preston Grange tonight :) David
  10. Ta. Nice engine bay BTW! David
  11. Finally got round to doing this job yesterday. Fantastic difference, wish I did it months ago! Remembered this advice... ...but didn't know what I was looking for. Anyone got a pic of it? I couldn't spot it on the 'engine my numbers' FAQ either. Cheers David
  12. Anyone else see Practical Performance Car magazine this month with the Zed buying guide? 300zx.co.uk gets a name-check and it features a members car. Also quite a good begineers guide to turbos that I found interesting but no titties. :( David
  13. I would deffinately take a blast across from the east coast for that. Any excuse for a go on the hairpins at Hartside :)
  14. oh yes, and while I was in a garage outside Bristol I spotted a magazine called Practical Performance Car with an article about buying a 300zx. The club gets a name check and it features a club members car. Have I missed the discussion on this? Didn't learn too much about zeds I didn't know from bitter experience or this site but the article on turbos was very good - accademic for me with my NA but good non the less!! David
  15. Well, it didn't let me down at all! 850 blissfull miles. Only niggle was a slipping aircon belt. The only other zed I saw on my whole trip was another black (or maybe grey) one bonnet up at the side of the M1 just north of Newport Pagnel(?) services on Friday afternoon :( Anyone here? If it was, hope you got it sorted! david
  16. Hello! I think it was! Were you walking back to your car? Were getting quite a few North East members here now! David
  17. ...and if the sun does come out there nothing worse than being trapped under a roof! To be fair to my zed, its never left me stranded anywhere. Just the thought of sitting in all that bank holiday traffic making me nervous! Anyway, decision made. The zeds getting its first decent road trip. I'll keep an eye out for all you southern zeddders down there.
  18. Yup, your right. Loading up the multichanger now :D
  19. off on a bit of a trip this weekend. Whitley Bay to London today then off to Wiltshire on Saturday then back up North on Monday. Every bit of common sense says take the reliable, economical daily driver especially as the weather forecast isn't so great. but on the other hand, the zeds just been serviced, running really well (I just know I'm going to regret saying that!), got new tyres, got working air-con, just been washed... I cant decide, need a second (and obviously unbiased) opinion. What do you guys think?
  20. Seen this one twice now, once in Jesmond and last night outside my mums house near whitley bay. Pale metallic blue with a high rear spoiler, round rear lights - very nice. I'm always in my other car when I see it. Anyone here? David
  21. Cheers for that one, tried it today an the fan goes just fine! Used the opportunity to clean the contacts a bit! Think I just need to get that belt tightened and I'll be sorted  David
  22. Ah, but I've been driving with 'econ' on pretty much since I got the car! Hitting the button to turn econ off and switch air con on! ;) I've been trying the aircon out a bit tonight - and nothings gone pop yet :) But when I first switch it on I'm getting a bit of a squeal. It sounds like the belt is slipping. Is it likely to be a simple adjustment or is it going to be a symptom of a less than healthy compressor or something? David
  23. well, I guess I did ask! :D So with a cold engine and car stationary nothing was ever going to happen! Cheers for that. I'll unplug the temp sensor (the yellow one or the other one?) and check the fan works for peace of mind then hit that 'econ' button and chill out  The guy doing my aircon recommended fitting a relay, switched when the aircon compressor engages to power the fan. I take it this isn't required then Thanks all David
  24. Well, just been up to get my aircon charged up after getting my second hand compressor fitted. Whole thing went really well. (cheers for the compressor Jock, it’s working a treat :) ) Unfortunately, as the guy was testing it he noticed the aircon fan didn’t come on. He waited until the pressure was nearly up to 300 (psi I guess??) to see if it was on a pressure switch but nowt happened. When should this come on? Should it work as soon as the aircon compressor is engaged? Is there a way to test it? Is there something simple like a fuse that might have blown?? Frustrating knowing that it all works but can’t risk using it!! Cheers David
  25. I bought an NA which has turned out to have a similar fault with the aircon. Was so impressed with the condition of the rest of the car I didn't notice the missing belt! Anyway, have just had a second hand compressor fitted and hoping to get it gassed up at the weekend. Got the compressor at a nice price from a member of this forum breaking his car, cheap enough to fit as I was having major work done anyway. On the whole I would say that looks like a good price if your are happy with the service history. My biggest expense has been a timing belt kit from the states and getting it fitted along with a full service. Has yours had a timing belt service done? As for the NA/TT debate, I've loved both my NAs. Sometimes wish I had a bit more power but on the whole I'm happy enough with the performance and more than happy with the looks of mine :) David
