  1. mine have gone out on both of my j-specs
  2. May be useful for people, I had my first import insured through Norwich Union Direct. They handled my total loss claim without any bother and I haggled a fair value with them. Dreading my renewal however! Can anyone recommend someone who will cover a daily driver and a zed as a second car? David
  3. ...and mine's a black NA in whitley bay. Does that rhyme?
  4. Got them in the car now. Well chuffed with them, really nice work. I just went for plain black carpet with a sort of carbon effect edge trim. Big rubber heel guard and the eyelet things for the hooks at the front of the seats. They’re a perfect fit Really smartened up the inside of the car, just wish someone had done it before they wore holes in the carpet! Will get some photos later and post them. They were 80 quid + vat, not sure if that’s a good price or not but fancied treating myself and the Zed ;)
  5. Ordered some mats to be made up at Kish in Sunderland. Copying shape from my nasty jap ones and transfering the nice little metal plaque across. Going to pick them up at lunchtime. Will post pics if anyone is interested. I guess quite a few of you will already be familiar with their work, he works closely with Peter @ PPS apparently. Wish I had the cash to get the full interior done!! David
  6. I've read a 'how to' on removing the headlight assembly without taking the bumper off but not seen one for dismantling the assembly itself. Are they easy enough to pull apart or very likely to cause expensive breakages? David
  7. That would be me, right now in 'help and advice'!
  8. cheers folks nothing's ever straight forward with these cars is it! Does sound easy enough though. Thanks for the link. David
  9. done a search on headlights but still have a couple of questions... There is mention in a few posts about cleaning the reflectors. What should I use to do this or more importantly, is there anything I should avoid using!? I guess you have to take the headlights out to do this. How much of a pig of a job is this? What bulbs do I need for a Jap import ('91 NA) for the dipped headlight. Already replaced the main beams. Cheers David
  10. Danny, I've been thinking about this and I'm increasingly thinking you may be onto something. The revs really drop when it happens which I guess you wouldn't see if it was just related to transmission vibration stuff. Have you got any further with sorting yours out? David
  11. I can have a look on the delivery note from MJP, see if its on there when I get home tonight. Mine is for a NA manual - I have know idea if that makes any differnce. David
  12. well, got the gear box mount fitted, thanks for the advice. Quite an expensive job since I had to go out and buy a jack and a socket set!! And did it sort out my vibration problems? Did it hell!! Still really bad when the car is cold, gets much better (almost unnoticable when car is warm) Does that sound like the centre baring? David
  13. thanks folks, looking forward to giving it a go. When I bought the car I was told the centre bearing had been done so hopfully this will sort out my problems - fingers crossed!
  14. cheers, is there any particular point where I should jack the gearbox at? Don't want to damage it!
  15. just ordered my new gear box mount to hopfully sort out my vibration problems. Is there any particular tricks or techniques for fitting one? Do I have to support the gear box while I'm doing it? Its an NA manual if that makes any difference Cheers David
  16. I'm down on the coast in Whitley Bay. Fraid I havn't found a garage yet (other than a local one for MOT) so will be watching for replys with interest! what colour's your TT, I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm one of the (at least three) black ones - mines an NA with stock wheels - that seem to be kicking round the coast every time the sun shines! David
  17. They are about 38 quid each!! Wish I had spoken to you before I paid for them :( I thought for a bit that price was for the pair but that would have been too lucky! Sure you will find someone to take them off you hands tho
  18. unlucky mate! In that situation shouldn't your neighbours home insurance be picking up the tab?
  19. Cheers Willieo. I have ordered a set of K&N panels from Revolution in Gateshead. I was getting sick of clarting around trying to get normal filters (motorworld managed to order the wrong one!!) Was planning on keeping the car stock but will look forward to the slight performance boost :) I imagine I might see quite a big boost over the filthy black messes of filters it has in at the moment!
  20. is anyone running the K&N replacement panels? any views on these? cheers David
  21. I fettled the worst squeak on mine. I thought it was in the dash. It was only when my missus drove past me in it I realised you could hear it outside! It was the bonnet catch. Bit of tape round that and its it lovely and quiet! can hear my stereo now!
  22. Tell that to my last NA zed that ended its life in bits in a bus stop
  23. how much does it cost to fit traction control? I assume it will go on an N/A OK? David
  24. well, I finally ended up ordering a pair from Motorworld because they only wanted a tenner each and said I would be able to have them that afternoon. Unfortunately they only managed to get one in so I will have to wait till Saturday now. I'll feedback on the brand and the fit. I was going to keep the car stock but a nice induction kit... it might be rude not to ;) David
  25. SRRAE, yes the lights do come on. So not earthing then...
