...either your clock on the 944 was way out or the Fairlady was a TT. How much did you pay for the yellow swb na - it's just the spec I want (assuming it's got targa panels). cheerz Jack

Big problem ... any ideas / advice ?
...I assume you haven't bought it from a garage? If you have then they should take it back and refund you - or you can get them to fix it. Your call. If it's bought from a private individual, it's worth asking for your money back - you never know, they might be decent about it - after all, it sounds like whoever sold it knew there were problems. Good luck Jack ...what sort of Saab are you using?

Stagg do!

Highest mileage autobox?
You guys scare me - I've 160k on mine at the moment and I'm looking for another 5 years out of it (and the car) before I scrap the whole lot. Thing is, it's an NA and used daily and never (white lie) driven in anger. ...will it last? cheers Jack

Exhaust Quandry
...Optimax is like driving with a tail wind. Ny Z's an NA and the difference between ordinary fuel and Optimax is very noticeable. Only problem is, so is the price.

Raffling Cars
...don't paint the front bumper - it looks good like it is.

Put Me Off Buyng A 300zx
Matt - as you probably already know, there's always a reason why a car is for sale. The trick is to find the reason(s), figure out the cost of repair/replacement, and negotiate from there. Anyway, I don't want you to buy one. These cars are special. They are one of the hidden gems of motoring. We can't have everybody driving around in them, they'll loose their exotic status. Keep them a secret is what I say... cheerz Jack

speedo's packed up...
Stuart ...the speed converter is normally a silver box added to the electrics on top of the dials in the dash (assuming yours is a Jap import - if it isn't, there isn't one). As for the sender, I believe it's underneath the car, assocaited with the gearbox. I've never sought it as I've never had any problems with it - hence the vague description. If you search this forum (a great source if Z info) you'll find an on-line maintenance manual - and you'll find the sensor pictured in there. Good luck Jack

Vibration
...put the back ones on the front and vice-versa... and test. Good luck Jack

speedo's packed up...
Dave - thanks for the info - I've to to a 60k service soon so I'll clean up the sender unit then - assuming the speedo dosn't fail in between time - in which case I'll try the 'velocity' method. cheerz Jack

speedo's packed up...
..happened this morning, odometer isn,t clocking the miles either. Everything else on the dash works ok, and the power steering felt heavy for a few seconds. Am I looking at dirty connection / faulty speed sensor? - or am I looking a faulty speed converter? - it's a jap 1990 NA. ...any advice will, as always be greatfully received. many thanks Jack

Cam belt change
I changed the cam belt on my NA about 4 years ago - it cost about £54 from Nissan - and it took me 2 full days - first time I'd done anything so big on a car. And, the water pump failed about 2 months later (another £50+) - so in effect you do it all again. This time, less than a day. Just bought a full 60k kit from Mike at MJP for £250 - and it includes the water pump and all the belts (4) and pipes (2) and seals (lots) and 3 bearings. Moral is, you might as well spend the money as it's false economy not to - unless you like spending all your time with your head under the bonett... Good luck Jack

Starter Motor Question...
I don't know the answer re amps, but how old's the battery. If it's 3 years old, you've got to be looking at a new one soon... Only speaking from experience... Can you borrow a good (known) battery from another car just to test the poor-battery theory?
-
Starter Motor Question...
...how old's the cars battery? I had the same once and it turned out to be the battery was failing. I'd removed the starter motor - pulled it apart and re-built it (relatively easy to do) and the starter would still jump into gear then out again, without trying to turn the engine. Everything pointed at the starter - or so I thought, as I'd assumed a poor battery would have just turned the engine slowly. No so - these clever Japanese have it that the stsrter won't engage if there's not enough power to turn the engine. Good luck Jack

A 2000 mile Clutch ?
isn't it a case of your contract being with the garrage and not the parts manufacturer? Who cares what Nissan says - you contracted the garage to replace a clutch. The garage gave you the warrenty, not Nissan. If in douby, contact your Citizens advice place - they'll soon tell you what's what. ...and don't forget, the garage purports? to be an expert therefore you can expect expert service from them. If they cock-up, you have a right to recompense...

Petrol Smell
I believe that the filler pipe corrodes underneath the wing as it's a mud trap - mainly UK spec cars - worth checking...

Prop Shaft experts needed
...you'll find it's worse when the cars been standing for a while. If I didn't use mine over the weekend, it'd be bad on a Monday first thing, but got slightly better as the car was used through the week. Evidently it sags more when it's stationary, carrying almost the full weight of the box. On the move, the weight is dissipated.
-
Prop Shaft experts needed
starting point is replaceing the rear auto gearbox mount. It sags and causes the prop to run out of line. The result is a vibration - starts to be noticeable at high sppeds (NA 80+) then gets progesssively worse untill you can feel it at low speeds. At low speed on a smooth road, it feels like you've a flat spot on a rear tyre. I've replaced mine about 4 years ago (cars a daily driver NA) and it's feeling like it needs replacing again. Costs about £50 and it's easy to do as long as you have jack to support the gearbox on whilst doing the change. Good luck.

17 months later and...
paint the spokes of the wheels a dull grey - bit like the look on the front shot - it'll add that finishing touch. Ignore me I'm insanely jealous...
