Anyone got pics of my Z ?
I'm suffering from nostalgia but seem to have lost a load of the pics which I had of my Z. If anyone has any, can you mail them to me (or let me have links). Cheers ! Dave (P.S. It was a dark cherry red one with a surfboard on the back and registration HAZ 2 300)

Zed's Dead!!
Bit of a guesswork diagnosis but I wouldn't think air flow sensor unless you're running a very 'open' air filter. What you describe sounds much more like a loose / dirty electrical connection. This is more likely because there had just been some work done which might have disturbed an already dodgy connection. You might be lucky and find it's a cheap or free repair. I'd check all of the coil pack connections first, then run the ECU diags. I vaguely remember someone having a list of all the 'obvious' electrical connectors to try - might be worth a search on here. Good luck Dave

nitrous kit ???
For an N/A it's a great mod. It needs to be done correctly but if done properly, in sensible doses it is a very safe and effective way to increase power. Two things to bear in mind - you'll only get around 40 seconds out of a bottle of NoS and your insurance will go through the roof. The increase in premium will be out of proportion with the increase in power. And don't even think about not telling them - there isn't a more obvious power mod. So, not as cheap as it appears when you just look at set-up costs but a great mod nonetheless. I don't know if anyone on here has it but a chap called Malcolm in the Z club has been running it on his TT for years. Dave

What type of internet connection do you have
I'm ADSL (via Freeserve) but having some serious performance issues - sometimes it's as slow as 56K modem (I'm running a performance test which Freeserve asked me to run). So far they've had my performance stats for a week and when I emailed asking for progress they told me to ring the support line (premium rate). As if £27 per month wasn't already enough money to take off me for a slow connection. Not currently happy ...

Gaer Lever
I thought perhaps this was going to be another manual / auto debate with the slightly new slant of 'which is the gayer leaver' ? Dave P.S. It's manual

Craig can host it on here using all the space he saved when he ditched all the references to Jeff ! Failing that, any chance of a CD and either send it or I can pick it up when I next see you ? Cheers m8 !

Adjustable suspension on Uk Q's..
Rob, I've never seen any circuit diagrams or true evidence but I think that the common opinion is that the handbrake trick is basically a self test and that the ECU somehow knows when to harden things up. Can't see any reason why you couldn't wire up a switch. However, it only adjusts the rears so if you assume that the car is balanced to perfection by Nissan then it may not be a great thing to alter the rears only. But I've never really understood this feature so would happily stand corrected by someone in the know. Dave

dump valves
I think your User Name is spot on - you must be 'aving a laugh - seems like every second thread has been about dump valves recently ! Loads of people have them - do a search and you should find plenty of info ... However, you need two and at £200 you need to be looking for second hand.

A very happy Hairsy !
As many of you know, I moved to Wales at the beginning of April and since then have had 4 house purchases fall through. Well today I exchanged contracts and we move on 15 Jan. I am a SERIOUSLY happy chappy today !

tappet noise???
99% sure this has to be gearbox if putting it in neutral gets rid of the noise. When you put it in neutral while moving, the engine is still moving and the prop is still moving so the only change is the gearbox. The 1% doubt is that you are changing the load on the prop by putting the car into neutral so it COULD be a dodgy bearing or something in the drivetrain. Not likely though. Dave

bad news today.
Very sorry to hear the news. Don't mean to patronise or anything but can I suggest that you just give it a few days before making any big decisions like this. A few days won't make a huge difference and it'll give you time to reflect. I'd hate to see someone buy the car quickly and then you find you have a bit of luck with job or home and then regret losing the car. Judging by the pics, that's Glen's old car and, if so, you've got a good one - good one's are rare and you don't want to let it go unless you have to. BUT, if you'd consider taking an MX5 in part-ex then mail me and I'll have words with the misses ! I'd love to have that motor ... Hope things work out for you. Dave

Which Petrol?????
Higher octane fuel burns slower. Detting is the fuel igniting before the piston reaches TDC. Higher octane fuel ignites later and so stops detonation (techy's - see my P.S. before you bite!). I had it described to me as similar to the difference between lighter fluid and diesel. If you put lighter fluid in your hand and stick a match to it, it will flare and immediately go out - you will not burn yourself. If you do the same with diesel, you will not be able to light it. If you DID manage it, you wouldn't write for a month. Diesel has much greater energey but is harder to light. Dave P.S. before the techys say anything, I know that the mixture is always ignited before TDC but the simplification makes life easier to understand !

Which Petrol?????
Iain, I think the reason why you are fine with normal unleaded is that you used a very responsible tuner who optimised your performance even at 95 RON :D On another thing that's been mentioned, I really don't get the idea behind using higer octane petrol 'every other tank'. The benefits of high octane petrol are immediate and do not last - it's when the spark happens and then it's over. It won't help detonation if you had Super in there recently but not now. Ukmark : no disrespect mate but it seems that the tuner gave you information which isn't correct - so why don't you just be grateful for the updated info instead of defending yourself. It's nothing to do with the place being clicky - it's just a forum for sharing information and people are trying to help but there isn't much point in seeking information if you're gonna ignore it. Dave

Which Petrol?????
Quoting from Shell's website (the link which Warren put up) : What is the Octane level of Shell Optimax? Shell Optimax has the highest octane specification of any petrol in the UK. It is greater than 98 Research Octane Number (RON). They may not use the word 'promise' but I think they'd struggle to defend themselves if it wasn't ! No two cars are exactly the same and your best bet is to try it - if you notice the difference and value that difference then use it. When I had my ECU mapped, I filled up with normal unleaded before the rolling road session. This meant that once it was mapped to that, I could then use super (it was pre-optimax days - I'm very old) to add a further margin of safety.

Why do people scratch cars ?
But I don't drive a Z or a Mondeo so why would they go for me ? Glen, did he get you playing that stupid game with the machine that throws the cards at you ? If so then I think you should know it's rigged !

Why do people scratch cars ?
I popped out earlier to get something from the car and saw someone has stuck a scratch along my passenger side rear door. Why do people do this ? I hate any kind of crime against people and their property but at least when I see theft, joyriding, even setting fire to a car, I think I have a glimpse of understanding as to the payback / thrill of doing it. Don't get me wrong, I do NOT agree with it and it makes me angry - but I can just about understand what's going through someone's head. But what possible pleasure / payback could anyone get from sticking a 2 foot scratch down the side of my car ? I don't have an enemy in the world (well, there maybe the odd one on here but you know what I mean) so why would someone do this ?

Thank you for not stopping me. I shud sleep well tonight.

Smashed SWB
Not sure why you need to post abuse. YOU put the details of your crash onto the thread. If you don't like the questions people respond with then just ignore them. If you don't want the questions to be posted then don't post about the circumstances of your crash. If you put up posts saying that you've been drinking and then crashing, whether over the legal limit or not, then you're going to get comment.

Smashed SWB
I don't think it's wrong to care about who else is out there on the road. It's very uncommon for it to be raining and there be black ice on the road. Not sure how that situation arises but presumably the temperature was a long way below freezing for the falling rain to be freezing so quickly - if that's the case then 80 mph where there are traffic lights hardly sounds responsible. They must have some wicked traffic lights round your way to be able to withstand an impact which cripples a Z without sustaining any damage to itself. Maybe someone could start to make cars out of that stuff. Oh, and forgetting about the rest of it, what sort of a name are you trying to give Z drivers by admitting to drinking Breezers ?
