Reasonable cost of h/gasket swap?
What's your location ? If you post it on here, someone may well be able to recommend someone who's worked on Zs. Dave

NZR : Bad ADSL performance
Thanks Andy, With a 576 Kbps connection, should I be expecting a peak figure similar to that ? Or is life more complicated than that ?! I've currently got a peak of 67.1 KB. Cheers !

Now why didn't I think of that ! Cheers Iain !

Reasonable cost of h/gasket swap?
Jeff (Zedworld) should be able to give you a reasonably accurate time for the job. I'd suggest speaking to someone like him or AndyDuff about other things that are worth changing at the same time - you could save yourself a lot of future labour costs by spending a little more now.

NZR : Bad ADSL performance
I've Broadband via BT but sometimes it seems to pause for ages. I run Zonealarm which gives a visual indication of traffic and sometimes the connection just seems to stop for up to 10 or 20 seconds. When it starts again it seems quite quick. I'm not sure if it's perception or reality but it seemed quicker when I got it. Could something have messed about with some registry settings or something ? Would welcome any suggestions. Cheers Dave

Corsa Fan !
Hired a Corsa for the weekend (visit to Northern Ireland). Great fun ! Hacking around deserted lanes covered in mud. Looked like a rally car when I took it back. I know it doesn't have mega power but it reminded me how much fun it can be to get back into a car which you can throw around and have some fun in without being scared of the results. One question though. I couldn't find the white cap in it anywhere. I thought they came as standard for driver and passenger. Like airbags. Or is it a cost option ? Dave

Intercoolers for sale
Marc, Sorry to hear the bad news. Not sure of the specifics but don't you need to await settlement before stripping the car ? If the other person pulled out on you then their insurance company is presumably going to struggle to not pay out and then they will own the salvage unless you buy it back. It's a pain because these things take so long but be careful - they may refuse to pay if they can't inspect the car in it's "post accident" state. Hope you manage to get back in a Z soon. Dave

Mmm... maybe went to far with the `T `cut
I'm confused by pic 2. The top ones are obviously pineapple slices. And then an orange slice. But what's at the bottom ? Is it some huge mutant passionfruit ?

Front mount intercooler....
You wouldn't understand Trev. It's called stealth.

Annoying Habits Poll
I had a Vauxhall Zafira hire car this week. Truly awful mistake of machine but that's not the main problem ... What is it about people carriers which makes people feel the need to overtake them. I had TTs, beemers, loads of porkers, mercs, etc all flying past on the wrong side of the road, down the inside of the motorway and ALL slowing down once they were past me. It was the most scarey driving experience of my life ! And that's saying something - I've been a passenger in Warren's car.

Test drives
I'm a million miles from being an expert on the legal side but I can't make things worse. More importantly, it makes them think. Excellent idea.

Brake Judder
Porterfield RS - they're from the states but SE Nissan also supply them. Craig has imported them before but I think in the end he didn't save much. They cost about £130 a set which I know is a lot of dosh but it's hell of a lot cheaper than the car not stopping. Alternatively, many people on here have tried EBC Green & Red stuff with varying results - go for a search. Metal Matrix from the states are popular on tt.net - I had these on the rear and they were fine but, to be honest, the rear isn't a very good test.

Brake Judder
I might be accused of being weird but that post gave me one of the funniest mental images I've had in ages ... Chris, be wary of blue print pads. I had these overheat on me many times. They weren't up to the job at all. Replaced them after only a couple of months.

hesitation
A leak would give a hissing noise but can be difficult to locate because of all the engine noise. This is going to sound weird but the best way I've ever found to find a small air leak is to get a long piece of vacuum tube and stick one end in my ear. Then move the other bit around the engine bay, particularly around air hoses. When you find the leak, it will be fairly easy to hear. It's like having an extremely directional microphone. A further bonus is that it makes you look really cool and pull girls. Dave

Power steering Diagnostics
A worn UJ can give heavy steering - I had it on an orion. Although odd that it's not all the time. I'm not sure about all those sensors you mention but speed sensor is definitely involved. However, as you've spotted, if speedo is OK and you don't have a dodgy convertor then that's less likely to be your problem. I would wait until you've sorted the UJ and then if that doesn't sort it start playing with sensots & connectors. Is it heavy as in no power assistance or just heavier than you'd expect ?

Not aware of any diagnostic although if there is one then someone will know. What problem are you having ? Someone is bound to have had it before you !

Wales weather is good for this time of year. Said in the paper that wind dropped below 30 mph last night. But I don't believe it ! I'm not sure of the legality issues. I remember there being stuff in the press a few years ago but I don't now precisely what the situation is. The car weighs 2 tons - could it really make that much difference ? I've got them fitted and haven't been pulled and have passed an MoT. Tony, you'll enjoy the Pajero Owners Club. Not quite the same as here. A little more, shall we say, conservative !

Tony, There's a place called Formula 4x4 which has a pretty decent brochure. They're way more expensive than you'd imagine - might be worth trying some breakers. Also try Pajero Owners Club (google should get it for you). Dave
