  1. 2.8 TD Pajero & MX5. Oh, and I sold the first car !
  2. Good decision Wedge - many on here looked at a dozen plus before getting a good one. Keep the patience up !
  3. If it's got MoTs for a few years then there's no reason why it shouldn't have service history. Anyone who would keep old MoTs would keep service records. If it was me then I would walk away from any Z which does not have history (and for me that means receipts) from when it arrived in the UK. Don't forget that this is a very quiet time of year for car sales so there will be a lot more choice very soon. Dave

Don't forget that this is a very quiet time of year for car sales so there will be a lot more choice very soon. Dave P.S. As I'm giving my opinion, any dedicated Z owner who can afford the servicing would be able to afford a £150 sill repair. And they'd get the window repaired before putting it up for sale.
  5. It's your speeding chime. Standard on the Jap Z. If you do a speedo conversion (kph to mph) then it'll move to being at a speed where you can't hear it for road noise. Alternatively you can remove the chime. Dave
  6. As with any car, people tend to believe that there will be 'niggles' with the first models off the production line. As I said, the only one I've heard of was the autobox (if I remember rightly there was an internal lubrication alteration). Doesn't mean they're bad cars though - I'd have one if I could afford to !
  7. Wedge, It's a new user so you won't get any history on the car from the forum - unless of course someone knows it personally ? That's not to say it's a bad car - just that it's equivalent to seeing an autotrader ad. People tend to steer away from '89 cars as they were the first to come off the production line. I'm only aware of one significant change that was made in 1990 though and that was to the auto box. Dave
  8. It does doesn't it ! Still a bit frogarsed though.
  9. It's to remind you to check your seatbelt because the brakes are so crap that you're probably about to hit something.
  10. Wedge, If you don't know anyone (and do ask on here as there's plenty of helpful people around). There'a a place called Arriva Nissan (I think) somewhere in the East near you which has a reputedly decent mechanic named Bob. If you can get to speak to him, you could offer him £50 to come and look at the car a second time if you liked it at first viewing. It'll be the best £50 you spend and, with him being a main dealer mechanic, his opinion should have enough credibility to have the price reduced if he finds things wrong. Good luck and, most importantly, don't rush into a purchase. There are more and more dogs out there and they are seriously expensive to fix. Dave
  11. I can report that Ajay is recovering well but has a large bump left on her head from when she read this thread and hit the roof. Perhaps you're right Scott. It would certainly explain why I sold my Z and got a 4x4 instead - to compensate for my feminine side ! The others are right - adjustable T/C is the dogs wotsits. Price can be reduced quite a bit by a group buy. It comes from Racelogic. If you fancy arranging a group buy then you might well get lucky as there hasn't been one on here for a while. If you go for it, then based on what I've heard, launch control isn't an option worth having. Great fun & impressive a couple of times but a bloody expensive way to needing a new clutch. Boyakasha Dave
  12. They may well not be earthed 'locally' but through the loom. Do both sides have the same behaviour ? And do the rear side lights do the same thing. This should tell you whether it's the earth or the live feed. If it's the earth then the problem will probably be limited to the front. If the problem is at both ends then it's probably the live. You could try adding an additional temporary earth at the indicator and sidelight bulbs to see if it solves the problem. Try each bulb individually and then both together. If one or more of these combinations works then it will help with clues for finding the problem. Another thing is to check the quality of connection at the bulb fittings. Electricity does some weird stuff when there are dirty connections ! Failing that, I would suggest you look carefully for an area where wires have melted. Check the rear light clusters as well as the front and then follow the wiring back. If you do solve the problem with the temporary earth, you should still try to locate the problem rather than adding the extra earth permanently. It's possible that other areas of wiring could get affected and there's two benefits to finding the problem : (1) you currently have an easily identifiable problem as opposed to something like an odd misfire on full boost above 120 mph and (2) there's a risk of fire if there's some sort of shorting going on. Good luck ! Dave P.S. Craig, if you're reading this, did you suss your electrical problem ?
  13. My Christmas Tree is up. Until 12th night of course. Then it'll be down. I'm not quite sure how you got your hand in your mate but we tend not to talk about that sort of stuff on here. Well it should be clean if it took Nissan 2 years to make it See what I mean - they only spent a year on his Stuff OTHER than the fact that he has his mate's hand in him and needs the help of a forum to remove it ? Slag means something different where I live. It's ex mining country and if were to slag him, I'd put him on a big pile of black stuff next to a hill. Dave P.S. Don't forget to wash your hands
  14. But the training course on how to put it back in the car has taken 18 months !
  15. Don't think much of his reaction time !
  16. I got a radio control glider which I'm building at the moment - excellent fun. Belated Happy Christmas and wishing everyone a great New Year. Judging by some of the recent comments, many of you are hoping for a better 2003 - personally I'll be pleased with a 2003 which is half as good as 2002 but then this year was pretty special for me. After all, this time last year, I lived within a stone's throw of Craig & Warren and now they're 170 miles away :D

  20. You're not wrong there. When I'm getting dressed, my wife often gives me a 'half pity / half laughter' kind of look which says I need to have a small re-think. I just can't do colours.
  21. Welcome Stuart. 1) You shouldn't get any stalling so there's something to look for. Do an ECU diagnostic, check for air leaks, check electrical connectors. Searches on here should give you some more detailed info. Also, I'm guessing that you were putting it in neutral when you stopped. There's no need to do this and some even say that you shouldn't do it as ATF fluid flows better in Drive. 2) Hold means you end up in a gear higher than you'd normally be and the changes are at lower revs. So when you pulled away, you were actually in second, not first. Again, a search will give you a more detailed reply. 3) You're driving like a girl ! People on here DREAM of fuel consumption like that ! Dave
  22. Scientists at NASA designed and manufactured a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all travelling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields. British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the British engineers. When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back-rest in two and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin, like an arrow shot from a bow. The horrified Brits sent NASA the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the US scientists for suggestions. NASA responded with a one-line memo: "Defrost the chicken" !
  23. They took a 5.3 V12 XJS and got The Stig to do 0-60 (quite why it had to be the stig who pressed a pedal and held the steering wheel still is a bit of a mystery) and it did 8.4. Then they took everything off it (carpets, seats, bumpers, lights, mirrors, etc) and it did 7.2. Not quite sure what the point was but it did make me think of Nelson !
  24. Oh I see - sorry for being so naive - it must be a male thing. Dave P.S. No, it doesn't look big, it looks lovely.
  25. Nelson's gonna be a nightmare.
