Darren, I think there's a sticky at the top of this forum about why the site is set up the way it is. Details are in there. And welcome.
  2. Bob will do mail order and will also travel anywhere if the job warrants it and / or you're prepared to pay his travel expenses. He's a top guy - give him a call.
  3. I made some enquiries. They seem to be reasonable value but bear in mind that they are not tuned or tested in any way. In my days of escorts & cortinas, I remember reading reviews of different exhaust systems & rolling road tests. Many systems actually resulted in less power not more. These days I think the decent names do actually do an element of power testing as well as making them look and sound nice. Personally I'd go for something from a big name manufacturer. Having said that, despite what most people might argue (and I'm ready for it !), an exhaust on a road going 4 stroke is never going to make huge differences. One last thing is that I've heard that on a stainless exhaust, the life expectancy will be based on the quality of joins. I'd imagine that an exhaust put together in a clean factory would be better than in the garage I saw. Last point is based on second hand information - others may be able to confirm / deny. Dave

I might have got the 'gist' of your post wrong so if I've misunderstood, please forgive me. I don't think it's fair to say you need to subscribe. It's optional. In terms of what you get - you get forums which tend to be frequented by the more experienced people and quality of technical advice is likely to be better. Most people will have seen 'technical' suggestions which have come from orifices which are not normally associated with verbal communication. You get a sense of belonging and a matching respect from others. Where the above isn't true you get a great forum to debate your lack of respect. And you get to understand what is meant by all the references to swearing / moderation / etc in the posts above. Pay up - it's worth it. And I don't even own a Z !
  5. Definitely sounds the most plausible to me. Good thinking Willo !
  6. Rhetorical poll Would you rather : (a) walk onto a building site (b) cut a dead child out of a car wreck © go into a burning inferno to rescue total strangers

For currency conversion, they don't come any simpler than this : http://www.xe.com/ucc/ Cheers Dad !
  8. Just an observation ... If I : a) knew the last owner of a car b) had the ability to search a technical forum on which they would have posted every problem they ever had c) had the same for the previous owner d) had the same for the owner before that then I'd think I'd been re-born into 'History Heaven' ! If I was in the market for this car (and I really wish I was) then I'd value that far more than any receipts. Think about it ! Dave
  9. Mark from L&G - I've forgotten your surname and need some desktop support without going through the proper channels. Can you call me on my mobile please ?!? Number is on Outlook directory. Cheers !
  10. Harve, If you don't want to lose backpressure then you may as well keep the cats - the benefit in removing them is the reduction in backpressure :). On the fuelling thing, I wouldn't play with it without a rolling road. If you want to, then get a real time exhaust gas analyser (less than £100 from Demon Tweeks) and make sure you have that on all the time to spot a weak mixture. But I wouldn't risk it personally. Good luck Dave
  11. This is a really important point which I don't think has been at the front of my mind and probably many others. If the government supplied fire engines which just had washer bottles instead of water tanks & pumps then we'd all complain that they were cutting corners with the equipment. And, with no disrespect to firefighters, they are one of the pieces of equipment. To me then, I reckon that the going rate is the fair rate. And that's the going rate for people who do the same job - not a similar one. I'd love to see nurses etc getting more money but actually that's a different debate. Same employer (sort of) but different debate.
  12. I think the general concensus amongst those who talk bollox less than 50% of the time is that recircs are theoretically better but you're unlikely to be able to tell. Reason is that the ECU expects them to be there and will fuel accordingly. However, the difference is tiny so I would base the choice on whether or not I wanted the noise. You could always get recircs + that Japanese gadget that will play a dumping sound from under the bonnet when you change gear ... Dave
  13. Cheers guys. Gio - good thinking - I've got memory stick in my camcorder and Secure Digital in my PDA. Waz - cheap is much more in the £35 territory than £250. I don't need to impress her after all - she's married me now :D
  14. Anyone got any recommendations ? It's a present for someone to use in the gym so it needs to be small. Ideally have enough memory for a couple of hours of music plus reasonable battery life. Oh, cheap would be nice too. And the ability to have it in my hands in 4 days is essential (yes darling, of course I'm ready for your birthday). Cheers !
  15. Bob, I think Anders (on here) was saying recently that he still had an engine for sale. Dave
  16. Just interested to know how many members are actually active. If you are, please post ONCE ONLY on this thread so that the post count can be used. To make it slightly interesting (and possibly useful) how about posting your occupation ? I'm a Project Manager for IT projects at Legal & General. Dave (now how is Timmy going to manage only one post on a thread !)
  17. If it's not turning over with the plugs out then there's something seriously nasty happened. Even with bent rods it should turn over. The crank could perhaps have taken a battering. Whoops !

Craig has his on a mobile phone holder attached to the windscreen. It's a good position for it although probably not the most attractive location. Craig gets around this by cleverly drawing the eye away from it by leaving his car unbelievably dirty all the time. Dave

I don't that a 'wrong' fuel pump will fit easily. It might be worth a note to AndyZ on here - he sells second hand parts and might have one. If you could get your girlfriend to get payment to Andy quickly and you were happy to pay the airmail postage then you'd probably find that would be the quickest way. Good luck Dave
  20. Could you do us a huge favour ? Could you tell them that you need the work doing but need a formal estimate for some reason ? I would love to see the estimate sent to some magazines, TV programmes and, most importantly, Nissan GB & Nissan Japan for comment.

The Z rating and EU mark give a level of guarantee that the tyre won't explode under normal circumstances at the rated speed. Grip is a different thing. I tried three brands of tyre on my Z - the first being on there when I bought it (dirt cheap). In my experience, cheap is definitely nasty. Mid range is probably acceptable if you're not after grip although I'm sure there are exceptions (and Toyo do tend to get good press). On the expensive front you do get what you pay for. I tried Pirelli P Zero and Bridgestone SO2. The SO2s were by far the best. Money spent on tyres gives so much more driving pleasure. It's like all the people (myself included) who always thought their brakes were adequate and then upgrade. It makes SO much difference to the fun you have.

It's a very common problem. I suggest the following : 1) Tighten all of the clamps on the petrol hoses under the bonnet 2) If this doesn't solve it, start the car up first thing in the morning and look at the fuel pressure regulator and damper. You may see fuel leaking. If you wait until it's warm though, it will stop and the fuel will have evaporated 3) If neither of these solve it, you probably need new fuel hoses. It's not that expensive and just a little bit fiddly. Really important to get high pressure fuel line and not any other type. Good luck ! Dave
  23. I'm terrible at it but I was wondering whether anyone has tried a TOCA 2 game on the 'net. There's no Skyline there but you can always select a Mondeo Glen ! Seriously fancy this if anyone else does.
  24. I wish some people on here would go on strike :D :D :D
  25. WTF !!!!! Best of luck getting help with that attitude ! ROFL !
