Smoke diagnostic
Haven't got the previous page Clarkey but do you have a specific problem in mind ? Broadly white is water, blue (which is more like off white) is oil and black is rich.

Nissan 300zx
I agree Cuckooz. I don't know what the big deal is. I used to have a 300zx and I was always being beaten by 928s. Are you handsome and single ?

Boost/ ecu matters
Jeff, I recognise the method you describe from personal experience ... The company which I know which uses this method does a timing adjustment to remove detting. (For the critics, this obviously doesn't give the optimum power which an ECU upgrade does but it CAN be used to ensure that this method of boost upgrade doesn't cause detonation). Just a suggestion but have your customers had any other work carried out on their cars since the boost increase and then had the timing reset ? In my own experience, the company I was using explained the timing adjustment to me in some detail and made sure that I could brief anyone else who might readjust the timing. They did this pro-actively - I didn't ask for the information. Of course I may be talking about a different company - I didn't have any problems with varying boost peaks myself (I had a separate boost gauge). Dave

Boost Controllers
To be honest, I'd suggest that you base your decision on looks. Apexi is very individual - if you love it then you'll love it ! I do really like the Apexi but after seeing Mac's set-up, I think on balance I prefer it - particularly where Mac has located his.

for captain and hairsy: rolling road write-up
But I drive a 4x4 which doesn't go round corners anyway so nothing to lose.

for captain and hairsy: rolling road write-up
Cheers Rik. Interesting reading. Especially the bit about tyres giving 50% of the loss. My head is playing with that one - I'm sure there's an idea hiding in there somewhere ! Dave

Ex Z owners???
I don't know if I've missed something but what exactly has Glen done ? From what I've seen he has expressed views that aren't shared by others but so have I. In fact I agree with 99% of what Glen says. He's also one of the most generous and trusting people I've ever come across. This is a guy who I've never met yet once sent me a brand new modem and said he didn't want payment as it didn't cost him much. He later sent me a brand new hard drive and trusted me to pay him later. As far as I can see he's one of the good guys. What's going on

Should the USA sniper be executed?
You may be right Iain. I hope not, for the sake of my own integrity. But who knows how they'd react. I pray that I'll never know the answer.

Should the USA sniper be executed?
I'm with Glen - no. Society must be protected from whoever is guilty. But whichever way I look at it, I can't see how the person can be sane. If insanity leads you to this sort of act, and that act leads to the death penalty then surely we're killing people for being ill. I think we need a new forum called Heavy Sh!t.

NZR : Rainbow Warrior
In hindsight, it does share some of the inevitability of the outcome ! Shame I didn't realise beforehand. Although a funny memory now, it cost me a digital camera, a mobile phone, a pair of glasses, a sore neck and the sometimes significant pain associated with sand in every orifice.

You must see this body repair LOL
What repair ?

NZR : Rainbow Warrior
OK, it was like this ... A sand dune about 200' tall going up at about 60 degrees. A few of us walked up to the top of it after a barbeque involving slightly more wine than meat. It was pitch black and an amazing view of the stars (the alcohol had vastly increased my appreciation of astronomy). We then looked back and decided that as sand was so soft we should run to the edge and leap and see how far down we'd land. It would be easy. Not dangerous at all. Hic. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I thought I would just hold my camera above my head to avoid it getting sandy. I jumped as far as I could and it was brilliant for about a second. Upon landing though, I was reminded that soft sand acts as an incredibly effective brake (even better than a Brembo Skyline setup). Unfortunately Newton's theories were proved to be correct and applying the brakes to just the lower body does not do much for the momentum built up within the upper body. The result was an impressive toppling motion. What I did quickly find though was that sand's braking effects work equally well on the cranium as they do on the feet. This was the point at which I discovered the combined effect of gravity and a 60 degree slope. My head stopped moving once it was at about 1 foot below sand level but my feet recommenced downwards motion and went flying over my head. You'll be getting the drift now and I continued down, alternating between head and feet in the sand, for around 150'. About halfway I remembered the camera in my hand and and so held my hand as high as possible above my head. My continued downward motion meant that this resulted in my driving the camera, at arms length, into the dune. At the bottom I met a crowd who seemed to have missed my terribly serious near death experience and had apparently been watching something very funny. A lesson learned.

NZR : Rainbow Warrior
Hey Glen ! It actually disproved everything Nelson has ever said because I was one of the lightest people there yet I can confirm beyond all doubt that I went down the fastest. Ended up with my head literally buried in the sand. My glasses are still there somewhere. This was on day 2 of a week long holiday and I had to spend the rest of it, day and night, wearing my prescription subglasses. Even had to drive from Stanstead to Cardiff in the middle of the night with the shades on ! Did I look a twat or what !

Digital camera is knackered Warren. Unfortunate incident in France a few weeks ago involving a very large sand dune, a couple of bottles of wine and man's desire to fly.

F1 : Spa to be axed ?
Just seen this : The legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit is to be axed from the 2003 F1 calendar, it is reported. Team bosses agreed at a meeting on Thursday that the Belgian Grand Prix should be struck off the itinerary for 2003, according to news agency Reuters. It means that there will be 16 races on the calendar next season, instead of the 17 there have been in recent years. However, the reduction is likely to be only temporary as both China and Bahrain have been promised grands prix from 2004. Team bosses made the decision at a get-together on Thursday ahead of the crucial Formula 1 Commission summit on Monday. They hope that the move will be rubber-stamped at next week’s meeting. Spa, one of the most popular tracks on the F1 calendar, is paying the price for the Belgian government’s decision to introduce a law against tobacco advertising in August next year before the grand prix. F1 is definitely in a decline and needs sorting out but I love the Spa race. Personally I think it'll be a real shame if this happens.

NZR : Rainbow Warrior
I saw the Greenpeace ship, The Rainbow Warrior, moored up in Cardiff Bay today. Went over to have a look and I have NEVER seen so many huge beards and home made jumpers in one place. It was the funniest thing I've seen in ages ! Dave P.S. Genuine apologies to anyone offended but nothing you say can stop me laughing out loud everytime I remember it !

No way he could have done it...........
Cheers Chris and I hope things settle for your daughter too.

major disappointment today!!!
Yes, sounds good to me. Mine was an auto but I guess it could have been stuck into neutral. It's never going to be exact but I reckon your idea is gonna be as accurate as you're gonna get. And not a million miles away ... I'm interested in the fact that the rolling road that Henri was using didn't give a rear wheel figure. I've never heard of that before. Would love to know what calculation method it uses. Henri, any chance of finding out ?
-
So what would you send to Room 101 ?
Oh Nelson, don't ever stand in front of my misses when she's driving my 4x4 ! Surely you'd put all of the world's lead in there as well though !
-
major disappointment today!!!
The rolling road which mine was done on kept measuring after the power run and the graph showed negative power after lift off, as it measured the drag of the drive train. My opinin (for what it's worth !) is that if the machine is doing this, then it's almost certainly going to give a greater drag / loss than reality. My reasoning is that, in addition to true transmission loss, it will include the friction in the engine itself (e.g. rings on the bores) and these are occuring before the flywheel. Only a theory though. Anyone else got any ideas ?!

No way he could have done it...........
He's 8 months old and just had op 2 (well actually op 2 and op 3 coz it didn't work first time). He's doing really well apparently - he was sitting up playing in intensive care but they wouldn't let him out coz he wasn't supposed to be that well ! He's also got some wicked scars to scare the girls in the playground.
