Is the breather kit thing still going on ? Blimey. And people on here say that SE take a long time !

Warren, I heard that letting you drive it was a pretty reliable way of turning the whole thing off ! :D :D :D
  3. My most common site is this - bet no-one elses is ! http://meteonet.nl/aktueel/brackall.htm (But if anyone else needs to do their own weather forecasting it is excellent)

Shortty, Not sure quite how serious you are or what your reasons are but ... You could fairly easily set up a switch to only allow safety boost which gives very little turbo boost (there is a detonation sensor and the switch could be set up to make the car think it's detonating). Alternatively you could buy a boost controller and set it to very low boost. You couldn't (practically) remove the turbos and you wouldn't want to - way too big a job. What are your reasons : a) To wind me up - in which case you've damaged my faith in human nature and sucked me right in ! b) To save insurance : it won't work - they won't believe you and even if they did, they'd charge you more for making modifications c) Because you're concerned about the amount of power at an early stage in your driving career - very sensible but the approach that 99% would recommend would be to get a sensible car for a while. It'll be MUCH cheaper in the long run. A 300zx would not be a good first car in my opinion. Dave
  5. Fair point Stu. I could argue that this is in 'General Chat' and therefore it's not too shocking that the responses were exactly that. However, I prefer to be honest and admit that I didn't check ! And to return to topic for a very brief moment, Nelson, I don't know the answer I'm afraid and will therefore get me coat.
  6. You crack me up Nelson. WTF are you doing having a go at people for having a laugh ? If it's so important to you then go and pay someone to find the answer. If you come on here trying to get knowledge to impress your colleagues then you might find it backfires. Most of us talk b0lll0cks even when we're trying to be serious ! Would I give you a serious answer in a pub ? No fonking way would I - what a fun night out that would be ! And I'm sure the same can be said for all the others who replied in the same way - we don't take life that seriously. And before I finish - I'm having a bad week so apologies for ranting. It's not really like me to get wound up. But it DOES feel better to let it out ! Dave :(
  7. If you pre-heat cats in a microwave you can be arrested. In the betterware catalogue they have a fur lined hooky basket thing which you hang on your radiator and that can be used to warm your cats. Unfortunately, by the time you have reinstalled the cats onto the car, most of the heat has departed. Of course heat rises so if you pre-heated your cats then they would want to rise and that would effectively reduce the mass. Some stupid people don't realise this and remove their cats, thereby removing any possibility of warm cats making their car go faster. Wibble
  8. Sorry, no. But I think if you do a search on tt.net you'll find it as it's been discussed many times on there. The yanks know a lot more about squirrels because they say 'whatever' and 'like' a lot.
  9. Can we comment on SE & gearboxes ? Actually, it's a great idea and fits in with Craig's request for contributors to FAQs. It'll take some time I imagine but all it needs is a volunteer. While happy to contribute my limited knowledge, I don't think I can commit to co-ordinating it all I'm afraid.

  11. The problem of kph to mph conversion screwing up other speed sensitive systems happens when fitting a convertor direct to the speed sender on the gearbox. I haven't actually ever seen one of these but have heard they exist. Does anyone know ? It could be an old wives tale. The 'right' convertor fits onto the circuit board behind the clocks and affects speedo, cruise control and speed limiter. As Dave says, those prices are silly. I paid £50 or so for mine, including easy to follow instructions.
  12. I received this on a paragliding / hanggliding forum last night. The place in question is Devils Dyke near Brighton - it's a very steep 500' ridge. The story reminded me about what's important in life. Dave -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today was a good day for hang gliding at the Dyke. Dave Massie and I were in the paddock looking at a couple of paragliders flying in the strongish wind. We observed a car driving straight downhill from the car park in front of the pub. It was moving slowly but it was obviously going to end up at the bottom of the hill, very soon. Half a dozen pilots started to run after the car to try to prevent what looked like the inevitable! Flashbacks from James Dean in "Rebel without a cause"! I was worried that there could be children in the car having played with hand brakes. As we reached the car and got the doors opened, this sweet old lady was at the wheel, well aware of what she was doing. She was distressed to see the look on our faces as we shouted at her to STOP and we struggled to push the automatic lever in "park" and crank the hand brake on. She begged us to let her do it, that she had to, that we did not understand... We pulled the keys out, kept all brakes on and forced the lady to retreat to the pub for a cup of tea. Neil Ewins was remarkable in the manner that he dealt with this confused lady called Iris. It turns out that Iris is in great pain, possibly from an incurable condition, and may have tried to drive over the edge of some of our sites several times in the last few days. This was a cry for help and within an hour, Neil was her best help. He agreed with the police to take her back to his place and to look after her until her family can be informed later. The police did not tell the Press and Neil was on the phone to her GP trying to find out more about her condition. She started to smile again as Neil was reassuring her that something will be done to get her more medical help. If Neil is not into counselling then he really ought to. A very inspiring display of care and humanity. Top man! The only slight injury of the day is from Dave Massie who tried to jump the stile while running to help. The stile won. Iris asked us to thank everyone involved. Let's hope we can give Iris a tandem flight one day.

And also, does anyone know any sites that sell cheap carpet ? Cheers
  15. Port Talbot isn't too far away - I'm just north of Cardiff. I tried jet-skiing in Florida and thought it was brilliant. I was amazed at how physical it was. I hired the thing for an hour and by the end I had big blisters on my hands and I was absolutely shattered.
  16. I could never do freefall ! With paragliding you inflate before you launch so you know the things above you before your feet leave the floor. I must like my adrenaline in slightly more controlled doses than you ! Oh and I'm hoping to get my tandem licence in the next 12 months or so - I'll be on the lookout for victims ...
  17. OK, from my own case, they inspected they gave the turbos a visual inspection including taking a few bits & pieces away to get a decent look. They checked boost pressure before altering anything. They then fitted the bleed lines with jets in each side plus an outlet with a 'fine adjustment' jet in there. They then retarded the ignition. They then road tested with a decent boost gauge connected to check boost levels and detonation. They returned and changed the jet and repeated the exercise (don't know what was not right). Pete R then spent half an hour with me talking through what it was about, how to spot detonation, weather conditions to watch out for, what a boost spike was and what to look for. He explained the limitations of upgrading boost like that. The reason I say people should make their own opinion is that others (yourself and Warren included) have had very different experiences. That does not invalidate my experience. You ARE paying someone like that for experience. You may decide the experience is not worth that much money but it IS what you are paying for. Pete R will not tell anyone that he is fitting £275 of gadgets to your car. I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else. I'm simply, once again, creating a balanced thread instead of a purely negative one. Forum members, particularly new ones, don't get anything out of one sided views. If you were charged £275 for 10 mins work then you didn't get what I've experienced, what I've seen others get for their boost upgrade, or what SE's brochure says you'll get - in that case you have every right to be aggrieved. I would be too ! Dave P.S. Paragliding is awesome - everyone should do it. Beats any bhp induced adrenaline rush ! P.P.S. Here endeth my contribution to SE discussions for 2002 !
  18. I have very clearly said that I suggest people make their own mind up. That is not defending. I was simply correcting your facts - their boost upgrade involves more than fitting a bleed jet. Perhaps yours was done differently. If so, then yours is different to their statement, the way mine was done, and the way others have been done which I've seen. Dave
  19. There is more to it than just running a bleed hose. If they did just that then you would get immediate detonation and a very quick blow up. I am not saying that there aren't others way to skin a cat but it is not fair to say that they just run a hose. is it expensive for the labour involved ? Yes - but you pay for experience and for them taking an element of responsibility for any subsequent problems. And that experience IS worth something. See the other thread to allow you to make your own decision on whether it's worth £275 to you.
  20. I had it done and was completely happy with it. Ran it for a year without a problem before going for a 'proper' chip upgrade. There are mixed opinions on it however - a search will reveal them. Dave
  21. Now why is there never a moderator around when you need one !?
  22. I'm sure you're not wrong there ! But it won't stop you loving your Z more ! Oh, and by the way, the traditional response to a post like mine is "F### off you t#ss#r, I'm gonna kill you, your bitch is ugly, etc, etc, etc.'. You'll get the hang of it !
  23. Hey Russ, surely with that car you should be saying "DON'T shout me some abuse and I'll know who you are" ?!? :D :D :D
  24. The first forum wedding perhaps ?
  25. Thanks for that - yes, I knew about 8 bits but hadnt made the connection (pun unintended!). I feel happier !
