106 gti?
Two models of 106 gti, the 1.3 and the 1.6, the 1.3 has stupid low gearing, which makes it very impressive at getting to what is top speed (108 or so lol) the 1.6 much better built and more refined but im told not as fun to drive. the difference between the saxo vtr and vts is far more than 8 valves, performance is dramatic. the vts might only be 120bhp but 0-60 is somthing like 7.2 seconds plus you get coil springs all round on a vts, where as the vtr has to make do with torsian bar on the back (IIRC) Fast cheap fun BUT very french and will have almost undoubtably had a hard life. A good choice and often overlooked (but it is a bigger car) is the xsara vts, 2.0 167bhp engine, same as the pug 306 gti-6 only missing its 6th gear.

Hi!!!
with your trip your going to have to average 80mph for 10 hours a day to make it almost do'able at that you could expect mid 20's from a TT depending on how well you can maintain speed. If you drop to 50-60 you might eek 30mpg from it (if its a good one) which means at say filling from reserve 15 gallons ish (66 litres) thats £70 a tank in uk prices for high octane VERY IMPORTANT which is 375 miles a tank(at 25mpg), so 2 a day at least. Going to be an expensive 10 days! I work it out to around £1500 in juice!

TOP GEAR - The one wev'e been waiting for!
very complimentry of it... just not good on ice but we all know that! LOL Amazing him saying that "everything was working" and left the porker for dead in the 0-60-0 test... what do we think, turbo seal failure on the zed with it smoking??

Another car
The plight you have with NA engines... like the M3, has to be above 5k to really give you a proper shove, right round to 7600rpm then change. Sounds amazing but its hard work!

Another car

SWB TT on Ebay
cloth, automatic... and NOT a 94, its an S1 can tell from the seat belts on the doors and the steering wheel and the rear spoiler.
-
Oh dear...
The annoying thing about that car was that it was a TT manual (well TT Front bumper) and it was remarkably clean, bodywork wise at least, no rust!
-
doncaster
makes you feel better when 90 is only really 83 lol...

doncaster
were you using a satnav? As I, like alot of people who do shit loads of driving, use the satnav as a speedo (more accurate than the vans) so can get away with 55 on the clock in the van through them lol It makes all the differance honest. That aside, i cant believe how inaccurate some speedos are, to get a genuine 100mph out of it its got to be sat at 110!

Woah, steady boy! 90degrees in the rain!
nope R200v on an NA and R230v on a TT but after a quick look I think they are both limited slip.. doh! Back to my corner of german exile!
-
Oh dear...
lol it is pretty awful. Spotted it at santa pod a couple of years ago, on an F plate as well. I particularly like the blue rear reflectors... i mean why?!

1988 bmw 525i relay pics/info
Do you know if its an M20 engine (little 6) or an M50 engine? Id say on an 88 it'l be an M20 but you never know :) Ive fired up TIS and having a look through, if i find anything i shall let you know. Okay tis not too helpful, without knowing the exact nature of each of the problems. Here is a list of all the relays possible on that car, (assume its a manual saloon), I dont think very helpful but might give you an idea if youve got some part numbers http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=HC12&mospid=47373&hg=61&fg=25

Oh dear...
Appaling... but i have to say still not as bad as this abortion!
-
Woah, steady boy! 90degrees in the rain!
no lsd on the NA either (IIRC??) so that wont be helping things. The m3's LSD is a godsend in this snotty weather! Even with Michelin Pilots on!

TT Auto gearbox rebuild with pictures!!!
good on you mate, very impressive. im sure there would be lots and lots of people who would appreciate a local place, especially making a name for your self in rebuilt autoboxes as so many go pop! I had a rebuilt one in mine before i converted it to a manual and it was pretty good, but i doubt it had anything like the attention to detail that youve done there.

300zx on fifth gear
they dont even drive it... cant listen to it as this laptop is very sick, a general array of hardware that doesnt work! Looks good though, it cleaned up nicely! Im not a fan of 5th gear, just seems shite all the time its not funny nor is it particularly informative. I remember watching one where tiff was driving a veyron and was marveling at the way he could drive it in first with his foot on the floor round a cone with the traction control on doing 15mph.... hardly amazing stuff as traction control has been around for donkies years. Anyway, good to see a 300x on TV!

The great insurance thread 2009!
As a comparision on the M3 : £770 3rd Party Fire and Theft, 22, 3 years no claims with Adrian flux (cherished policy, agreed value @ 5k and limited to 4k miles a year) Not bad for a group 20 car!
