  1. Sorry baz, my total lack of knowledge showing here! I assumed it would be a rotary pump with moving parts that can bang around depending on the load. But after reading up about it I presume a zed would have a gear pump which looking at cant really make a noise through wear, it would just stop working. (Pumps on steam engines whih is what im a bit more used to tend to knock and bang a bit depending upon whats happening :) )
  2. As I said on the other thread? Slightly goosed oil pump? When did it last have a water pump or some sort of pully knocking? Its all down that area. Surely if it was a bearing issue it would have let go long ago!
  3. Cant do that! risk of bore wash :D I get really annoyed if im asked to move my zed, infact I use it as an excuse to go out in it... lol I hate just starting cars to move them!
  4. Welcome mate, just incase no one mentioned it. You need to be subscribed to sell! hehe..
  5. Intermitant bottom end noise? Oil pump??! Or oil pickup pipe partially blocked? :) Looks good mate!
  6. Cant believe those went for 34k, absolutly silly!
  7. Should have drilled a hole in it all first.... lol
  8. Thats really good then! I had seen prices of £1000 for one room etc when looking on forums. Cheers!
  9. Perhaps taken on different days ;) :p
  10. Thats very encouraging! Cheers mate. What sort of size rooms were they?
  11. I could do with a couple of rooms skimming if anyone fancies doing it? :) Northwest, near lancaster! Otherwise what sort of money will it be to get it done? Its a single bedroom and a double bedroom for now. All the plaster is still intact its just original and full of bits of holes and filler etc. I was going to cover it in lining paper and paint it. but I think it would just be easier to get it plastered and then paint it? Or does anyone else have any better suggestions? Cheers Guys
  12. No need to be such a prat about it, but if everyone just deleted their questions and discussions wether they get the answer they wanted or not there would be no information on the forum....
  13. Why delete your questions? Why not leave the information for other people to search for or use the future... :s
  14. It can be done, and as long as the car is in good health and you look after it you'll have no real problems. Other than your wallet taking a beating and it will need looking after! I bought a TT auto as my first zed, had it for just less than 2 years and did around 12k and it never once let me down. I didn't commute in it much as I had a shed to do that in, (The irony being that when the shed died i resorted to the zed to get to work...!) I converted it to a manual part way through that which just made it a better drivers car although I admit for a traffic heavy commute the auto would be better. You can get SWB cars, with a targa roof, with an auto box with an NA engine they are not as common as the LWB cars and usually more sought after so you might struggle with the budget. You would probably find a better LWB car, the autoboxes are not renowed for being reliable an awful lot of cars do get converted to a manual when the autobox fails although I'm not sure if its as bad on NA's? Realistically your going to average high teens then if you get twenty you'll be a happy man! Does of course depend on driving style and the health of the car, a sick one will do less of course.
  15. Any news mate? Hope all is going well. Sad to hear about yours as well John, I hope you've managed to make inroads into getting it sorted!
  16. Exactly what happened to me! Same speed ish as well, although I had noticed a knocking 100 yards previously and had slowed to a crawl to get to a lit carpark a few hundred yards away so I could have a proper look.
  17. Ah looks fab mate! I hope to see it in the flesh when its up and around these parts! You've still been round for this brew! :) bought my own place now so its even closer to you!
  18. Well it just had steel wheel nuts fitted to the spacer when the car arrived with me, sadly i knew no difference and didn't think to check, until the wheel came of!
  19. Looks like the wrong nuts, this was the issue I had with my car where the nuts worked loose as the spacer was aluminium and the nuts steel, so the nuts just ate into the spacer and worked loose. Really made a mess of them!
  20. Fabulous build! Really must take hell of sometime and effort to make it all work, the electronics these days are so complex! Similar to the E30 V10 build, although the E30 wasnt really an E30 anymore! http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4515333
  21. They are very economical for the performance, my old Evo would do 35mpg on a run without really trying hard which for a 300 bhp+ car is just epic. That was a 100k car so far from new. Obviously if you work them hard they will use alot more fuel! Some people love the SMG others loathe it, If your not sure then if I were you I would just go for a normal manual. To be honest, its one less thing to go wrong and it can be expensive (the smg was quite unreliable on the E36's although it was much improved on the E46)
  22. The vanos "issue" was with E36 Evo's, although an overhyped issue! Not to say that the vanos unit cant go wrong, it is rare and there are specialists out there now to repair rather than just replace the unit as BMW would at vast cost. A recall for bottom end bearings and the oil pump were issued on the E46 M3, check for the running in service as sudesh says. Main dealer history is sought after, and if you buy one with main dealer history then its a wise idea to continue it. Always condition rather than milage with these cars, quite often they have had a life sitting on the motorway so one with more miles on isnt always a bad option (rather than one thats lived in back lanes and round town). As with all BMW's there are lots of options, no 2 cars will be the same as all are built to order etc. However the biggest one on these cars was the choice between SMG II and a manual gearbox. Both are generally reliable (SMG is a robotised manual gearbox, flappy paddle affair) but if the SMG version is used in launch control it'll probably goose the clutch very quickly! You probably need a drive in both to decide which you prefer. The SMG can be great fun and very fast although the auto mode isnt always brilliant. E46's in general are prone to rot on the front arches and seem to be affected on the boot lid and leading edge of the bonnet but not all cars. Being an M3, things like suspension bushes, brake pads and discs do carry a price premium but its often worth buying from the main dealer, remember standard front brakes are a 2 piece floating disc where as most aftermarket "Upgrades" will be single piece so are really a downgrade! I sign of a well looked after BMW is having the correct tyres fitted, IIRC it should have michellin pilot sport 2's fitted, if they all match its a good start! Anything with kumho ditch finders on the back I would be walking away from! Signs that the owner couldnt afford to look after it sadly! If I think of anything else i'll add it :)
  23. And blue tint glass! ;) Ah we could do this all day! lol
