Auto zed questions !!!
Perhaps still cold, the boxes are realy slow and dimwitted when they are cold. Mine was the opposite actually, drove me mad any slight hill in the road and it was forever changing down out of overdrive into 3rd, using shit loads of petrol. Just wouldnt use the torque! When I hadit converted (this was the grey one) my god what a difference, I couldnt believe it was the same car. For old times sake, heres the old girl as an auto

Auto zed questions !!!
Sport or power as its known in theory makes it hold onto gears longer, however in practice I never found it made a huge amount of difference, bearing in mind that it automatically goes into power mode when you give it a boot full anyway, well mine did! The middle position is just normal, changes up and down as best as it can bearing in mind the age of the box, automatically switching to power mode if given a kicking. Hold is slightly more interesting, its akin to a winter mode, it makes the car move off in 2nd in order to reduce the torque at the rear wheels and reduce wheel spin. However I found with mine that it really seemed to "slip" the fluid clutch with it and it didnt seem very mechanically sympathetic so I never used it. All of those buttons come out when you convert it to a manual ;)

Help wanted....anyone good with BMW electrics?
I'm not sure about using the key barrel to put all the windows up, but modern BMW's will put the windows up and close sunroofs etc when holding the lock button, and also lower them when holding the unlock button. It seems strange that the two faults have occured at the same time so they must be related. Here is the key sync procedure Thought this might come in handy as a DIY for someone as some companys charge to do this! - Sit in the car with all the doors shut and windows up with your key fobs (all your fobs need to be done at the same time) - With one of your keys turn the ignition on then off and remove the key - Press and hold the unlock botton and then press the lock button 3 times. - Release all buttons and the locks will bounce up and down. - Repeat this with the other key/keys (press and hold unlock and press lock 3 times, locks will bounce) Note: Only switch your ignition on once, doing so again while programming will reset the process and you will have to start again. As it says, do all the keys at the same time. You could try that and see if the problem goes away. As for the windows automatically dropping, perhaps something has dropped of inside the door panel. I would try and recode the keys first and see what happens. This is from an E36 (previous 3 series to yours) but there was an antitheft feature on the steering lock which if the wrong key was inserted the barrell would spin and so not try and start the car. What used to happen as either the keys got worn, or the barrel became worn it would spin and so be difficult to start the car. There was also a shitty bit of plastic that used to break from time to time and let the barrel spin all the time, again a sign of forced entry but if you were a bit rough it was possible to break it. My M3 was starting to show symptoms of this, I never fixed it because it wasnt bad and I sold it soon after. I'm not sure if the E46 has a similar system but its possible. Do you have more than one key for it? Might be worth trying the spare as it will be much less worn!

Ecu chip up to 18psi
Well the larger the injector wont actually matter, its just the ability to supply more fuel. Imagine youve got enough traffic to fill a two lane road (or need enough if that makes sence) for 15psi, they might be at say 70% duty cycle (where as stock injectors will be up at 90-100) by making the road bigger, 3, or 4 lanes you'll just reduce the duty cycle of the injectors, so an 800cc injector will be down to 50% uttilisation. If the analagy makes sence? Its been a long day! However if you had a block and turbo chargers capable of supplying/supporting 18 psi, 20psi what ever you would need more fuel as youve got more air so then you might reach the top of the 555 injectors and would need 740's etc

Hi all...
Well they are lighter, which does improve performance but you wouldnt really notice it in straight line speed. Its said that the SWB cars handle better, slicktops are certainly stiffer due to having a fixed roof however there have been endless arguments till people are blue in face (fingers in this case!) about this subject as you might imagine. Having owned both, my slicktop is the quicker car and also handles better than the LWB I had. The slicktop is now on coilovers, but even when it was on mis matched springs and standard leaky shocks it was better than my LWB which was also on standard leaky shocks but at least it had matched springs! Its really down to what you want from the car, thre isnt much between them in looks either I must admit it just depends which way the wind is blowing as to which I think look better, its really more the modifications (or lack of in most cases) which make the cars look better or worse to me!

Ecu chip up to 18psi
The boost isnt controlled by the ecu in these cars, to raise the boost its either done by a stand alone boost controller or by putting boost jets in, not normally recommended. You need to change the ECU chip if you intend to run higher boost so that the fueling map is suitable to avoid leaning the engine out. Obviously if you put more air in the cylinder (under pressure, boost) you need to put more fuel in to keep the AFR at an acceptable level. Otherwise you'll risk pre-detonation or det, and blowing the pistons to bits. I'm sure John Dixon will have something suitable "of the shelf" for you to run 18 psi with 555 injectors, however as said above that is alot of boost, its generally said not to go past 14/15psi on a stock block thats approaching 20 years old. Its also been said that the stock turbos are not much cop after that pressure either, 16psi being about the limit before they run out of puff. However if youve a rebuilt engine thats been strengthened and bigger turbos fire away!

Insurance help!
Ah the insurance lottery. It simply just depends who you speak to on the other end of the phone. I spoke to two people at one company about the same car within 15 mins (I got cut of by mistake) and the price was almost double so I called another company, this was sometime ago I must admit. Mine is an import, and down as an import with Admiral FC for less than £500 on my Slicktop TT, im 25 with good no claims etc. Just have to keep trying places until you get one that is sensible!

IT help?
Right, bit of a weird one if anyone has any suggestions. I work for a small company, Saturday support is rotar'd basically as I live so far from the office I work from home via RDP to our win2k8 server basic but it suits us. Normally works a treat, however today I cant connect to it. I've had someone pop into the office (on their way to a funeral oops) and restart the server and the router I have also restared my machine and router but still no avail. Biggest issue is that I need it for our remote access software to help customers as we only have licenses for it to be used through the server! In the mean time, Ive had someone log into the server, and use our remote access software to get back to my machine and reverse the screen so I've basically tricked it into showing my a session on our server... Has anyone any ideas as to why it wont work the normal way?

I must admit it drives better now than it ever has done! New lass was in it the other day, iv never put my foot down when she's been in it until Sunday. Head went back and she went quiet - best way of shutting her up lol

What's my car worth?
Thats an interesting comparison! It does appear that the value of zeds has changed little over the last 10 years or so. However the value of the pound has decreased usign some suspect website I found, the £4500 you paid is worth £5900 in this day and age. I would also wager that when you bought your 1990 car there would have been many more nice examples about. Its getting hard to find a good one, I must admit I have a regular look through autotrader/ebay/pissheads and there isnt always many i would be running to have a look at.

stop panic buying petrol
I must admit I was shocked when i heard the salary that petrol tanker drivers get. Imagine if the same price band was given to a railway engine driver, lets say a small train of tankers removing 20 road based tankers would mean your average train driver would be 900k a year! Imagine what a supertanker captain would get paid! lol

What's my car worth?
99 spec cars were the last model year for the 300zx in Japan, they received new tail lights, new front bumper and a range of other bits and pieces including xenon headlights on the TT optional on the NA. It makes the cars more reliable. Not to mention a decade or more newer than 1989 models. A combination of rarity (only a handful produced, very very few have been imported) the upgrades being genuine factory rather than added like many have done, and they are generally lower milage/better condition by being considerably newer. The car above is a stunning example but becomes hard to value as its an NA auto, I would say to a collector/right person its got to be worth between 4 and 5k. Its not becuase its an NA auto zed, its a 99 Spec zed. The last genuine 99 spec car I saw for sale was the one roobarb has, which is a TT manual. Now when it was for sale at a dealer it was up at £12,995. I cant imagine thats what it sold for but it gives you some idea :)

300 zx 2+2
Cant see that threat from insurance having much grounding, when many MPVs are sold on the fact you can take all the seats out of them and have them in different configurations!
