Yeah, i suppose so... I suppose the Autobox has to be worth somthing, i have a receipt for just under a grand for it so that would offset the cost a bit... Hmmm Anymore advice guys?

different air filter
Check its the exhaust note thats changed... Most probably the induction note thats changed! But yes they alter the tune of the engine, more or less air so its going to run differently... If ever so slightly Probably the noise of the air going into the engine you can hear tahts different tho. stand infront of it and let somone rev it...

Auto > Manual Conversion
Im in a bit of a pickle, and i dont know what to do... I desperatly want a manual ZX, i've been in one now and i realise that i bought the wrong one (a first to admit i was wrong, but there we go!) So i have a clean low milage Jap Auto, it has a recon box with 10k on it or so + an oil cooler. But it runs well, never gives me any crap and apart from the odd minor maintaince issue its not been a bother over the last year. It already has a chipped ecu, dump valves (good or bad iv not yet decided, mainly because they never really activate with the auto!) scorpian exhaust, apexi filter etc etc. So. Do i sell this as it is and buy a good manual? Do i convert this and sell the auto box on, (whats it worth?) can i convert it my self with the aid of a ramp and some technically minded friends? Do i buy a messy manual for the gearbox, and scrap/strip the rest of the messy manual? and sell my good autobox? What sort of timescale does a manual conversion take? Days? weeks? So advice please....!

Horrible indicator stalk!
Thats actually a british trait, when we built all the car plants in japan they copied it. Only that because most of the europe drives on the wrong side of the road we english went all pussy and gave it to keep em happy and keep costs down. But the Japs kept right on in there until fairly late on!

quick update
I'll be honest with you, mine always feels hot... But according to conzult/datascan water temperature doesnt get to anymore than 81*c (like 82 if you thrash it and then stop!) Perhaps worth looking at getting a copy of datascan at least, really handy to check stuff like that... Bad as it is, if the gauges look right then im normally happy lol, but i do regularly keep an eye on it if ive got the laptop in the car. Or look at one of those gizmos that Pete has got (Turb0z) that displays Timing, water temp, and injector load i think and it sits on a pillar pod. Quite cool

quick update
Aw your joking mate... What a nightmare, always the ones that dont have insurance that hit you isn't it! Is that not going to leave you £700 out of pocket though? Or was £1300 the insurance quotes. Whats the actual cost of repair? Since when did it start overheating? this oil or water temperature?

And you thought the Zed liked a drink?!
Clicky Lieing toerag!... 4.8 ;) haha Actually a very useful site, has most cars from the last 10 to 15 years, it is generally a bit pessimistic, and parkers a bit optimistic, So between them i take an average and then those figures are gospel :D But handy to see if parkers is spouting from its anus... If they both tie up the numbers must be true!!

And you thought the Zed liked a drink?!
while were on the subject, about bad cars and suprisingly bad cars (well vans actually) I once had a peugeot partner peice of shit from work, took it to edinburgh and back... Found out it had only managed 26 to the gallon all day. I mean i wasnt paying for fuel so i didnt care. But how the hell did it manage to burn so much, 1.9D with about 58 bhp. Might actually find out the injector capacity and work out if its possible!

And you thought the Zed liked a drink?!
hmm roughly 15 to the gallon, all i get from my zx normally with the driving i do, mainly round town shops and back etc, odd A road blast... Did nearly 23mpg to blackpool and back the other day, was at 90 tho!! That is pretty bad, not going to be far of standard power... Im sure if you drive it off boost it should expect at least mid 20s to 30s, i know its not the same but i get nearly 40 from my 2.0 petrol laguna... End of the day, of boost it shouldnt be that bad at all! I mean its basically a 4 door P1 isnt it, just a jap STI (P1 had the jap STI engine??) Out of my depth on these but im sure i've read that somwhere... Figure for a P1! which are more sought after
Hence the reason for a grey one... It can be black as the night sky but it still looks great... Until it gets its monthly wash (JK!) and it looks even better!

And you thought the Zed liked a drink?!
how bad are you talking?? What engine work has it had done to it?

Newbie question ..
Depends on the car you buy some are a bit unreliable, and others are just bloody awful. End of the day, they require money spending on them. When released they were considered a bit of a supercar, whoever heard of a supercar thats cheap to run Most are getting very old now and its common for UK ones and even japs that have been here a few years to get a bit of the old tin worm. Obviously one thats been neglected, thrashed from cold, stopped too quickly when hot and never serviced is just asking for trouble... On the other hand you can find them that have been cossetted, kept in a heated garage and serviced ever 1500 miles, obviously these are in better condition and are more reliable. Turbos are said to last 60k, there are plenty of cars about with 100k plus that are on original turbos, and they are fine... So to sum up, the mags list what can go wrong (but in this day and age with old cars, it all fairly often does!) Golden rule, have at least £1500 cash available at anytime for the Z, and it wont give you trouble... These things can auto-sense your bank balance. If your cash reserve drops it will go bang!
-
bloody hell
youve done well not to do that if youve had it 3 weeks. if its jap put it in hold and let it drive on th torque... nothing can happen 2 quickly and they still go fairly well!

Winter Driving?
