She ran lovely Terry..... Was rather loud and ears ringing when we got here.... Lol Exhaust makes droning noise till at higher revs... Lol Used just over quarter tank from Southend on sea... Not bad... Lol Just getting bus into town centre now... Leaving z in safe car park... To avoid shopping trolley dents... Lol

Weird timing problem.....
Well after lots of deliberation...... and threats of divorce or castration......... We are taking the Z to Norwich .......... As my Saab has developed the following faults.......... No ABS, No working air bags, No Traction control, Blue Smoke and NO working speedo........ ABS ECU has failed!!! So the Z seems to be okay touch wood, so cautious drive there.......... and I have RAC in case....... Wish me luck and if anyone from Norwich is about this weekend ?........ then send me a message and I will check them...... If / When I get there...... lol

Weird timing problem.....
Pretty much what I have been doing for past few days.......lol...... Just seems to me that if it was that far out with an interference engine something would had connected by now........ Weird how 2 different timing lights are doing the same thing though....... How will fuel economy be with ignition timing that far out??????

It's weird Terry, the engine sounds okay where ever I set the CAS to...... either way it only seems to effect the tick over...... tried 2 CAS units and same on both, so must be the timing belt throwing it out 90 degree...... Not sure if I should risk driving to Norwich like this though...... but then need to explain to the wife why we can't go on our anniversary / honeymoon........:hang::death:.........lol

Thanks Terry, The car runs okay, drives okay, but stalls when coming off accelerator some times........ I was just trying to check the Ignition timing was 15 degree as I never checked when putting her back together...... also did TPS the other day...... Just couldn't figure out why timing marks were not visible with any timing light.....untill a friend used the digital snap on one and got to 91 degree before the pulley lined up with the cover mark...... So I'm now worried that the timing belt is way off........ Other than that she goes well, doesn't overheat and boost's okay....... Just don't want to drive to Norwich and destroy the engine if the timing belt isn't right......

Hi Terry and 111mattin111, The timing light pick up is sitting on top of no1 coil pack as per Jeff TT thread with the pick up cable tied open....... tried wires to coil pack and got nothing.... PTU relocated next to air filter so wire not accessible now.......

That is what I was doing...... lol Just checking to see where TDC is as ignition timing is 91 degree out according to 2 timing lights.....

Right, turned over by hand to get bottom pulley TDC mark on 0 degree cover mark and put rod down onto top of no1 piston and it is NOT at TDC..... Turned crank by hand and TDC leaves the timing mark on bottom pulley about 90 degree to the right....... Timing belt?????????? So much for going away today....

CAS swapped for a spare one and no sign of the timing mark even with strobe set to 70 degree's....... Worried now I may have forgotten to refit keyway on crank pulley and it has rotated 90 degree when i did up bolt refitting it?.......... can't think of anything else..... Timing light I have won't even read...... so going to take her to garage with snap on digital light again in a while.....

Brand new oil and has done about 20 miles..... think it is the sender, but will have to dig out another one I have and swap it asap...... Will have a go sorting this out this morning, if not sorted then I maybe in hospital for some time my wife say's.........Gulp!

Cheers Redwine, got the exhaust gasket sorted out as I fitted it upside down and now the right way and sounds so quiet now...... Checked the CAS connection and all okay.... Also noticed that I lose the oil pressure when engine warms up now...... goes from 4 when cold to 0 when warmed up....... knackered sender or big problem?????? Got out spare CAS unit and will swap tomorrow and check with timing light as well as TDC using rod down plug hole on number 1 piston and checking that mark on pulley is at 0 degree when at TDC.... Thanks for the idea's...... Hoping Jeff pops on here tonight as getting grief from wife about not taking her on our 1st Anniversary / Honeymoon.......... Life will not be worth living..... as daily driver is now dead as well......

She seems to run okay, but today had a few problems with her stalling when slowing down to a stop or coming off the gas...... not done this before...... Also noticed smell in car of fumes...... over fuelling???

I am going to check the TDC first to make sure pulley marks are in the correct place...... If that is correct then I will swap over the CAS unit and see what happens...... Typical the day before we drive to Norwich for our anniversary in the Z......... lol

If I could get the owner with it instead..... Trust me I would......lol I couldn't do it really....... just going to fit induction aerial on fence instead to make his hearing aid humm........ could transmit drum and base so only his hearing aid picked it up.......lol

Thanks for that znut.... I have a spare one...... But wouldn't that mean it ran like crap or just wouldn't run at all at 91 degrees out? The timing mark was way round to the left as you look at it...... Is there any difference between crank pulley on TT and NA ???? Going to check TDC on no1 later and see that it is correct to the timing mark on the pulley...... Now starting to worry I left the key out when I refitted the bottom pulley...... Aaaaaarrrggghhhhh...........
