  1. Agreed, Ooh, a late entry. Do we have a new pretender to the "Crown of Pedantry" ... Off to bed now ... drunken! CheerZZZZZZZ, John.:D :D
  2. Thanks Roy, sounds like the man ... where do you get a converter chip from and where does it go? Thanks for the advice. CheerZ, John.
  3. Thanks Stuart, that's helpful ... does it seem likely that it's cold-related?
  4. Just like to add ... Has anyone else had the ignition coil relay or the EGI relay fail? CheerZ, John.
  5. Cheers Aaron, Don't think it's the CAS - thought I'd posted this, but once James's spare PTU was fitted the car burst back into life, and was fine yesterday (I did about 60 miles - no problem). AA man also reported, that when he was fiddling with the relay, it "clicked" then the car was going again ... Also, when I did the ECU diag, I got the very helpful "55", will try again today, though, just to see if there was anything else happening. Checked the CAS connector, seemed pretty sound, and made no difference when it wasn't starting. Thanks for your help ... CheerZ, John.
  6. Chaps/Chapesses, This morning, I set out for work as normal, and everything goes tits-up! First off, I thought, hmmm, steering feels a bit heavy, and the speedos up to its usual trick of not really doing anything 'til warm (worse on cold mornings) ... then the HICAS light comes on ... oh well, top it up, I thought. Once the car's warm and the speedos working again, the HICAS light disappears and PS is fine:confused: Anyhow, then get some petrol, join the M20, accelerate up to 90-ish (overtaking Scooby;) ), then there's a jolt, and I'm slowing down - coasting in fact - Shite! No life from engine. Pull on to hard-shoulder, call AA, freeze my nuts off:( - half expecting it to start when he arrives (perhaps PTU), but no - still no life. Anyhow, he wiggles the EGI and Ign Coil relay, and we're back in business - have ordered new relay - collect on Saturday. Problem is this - I now have zero faith in taking the car out, and the question is this - are these things related?? Any help would be much appreciated from the experts!:) CheerZ, John.
  7. Blimey Stu, you sound almost bitter, my man ..... I've not had anyone rush up and take pictures, either, but quite often they ask what it is. Generally goes like this: "What is it?" "A Nissan" "Oh" (sound disinterested) "300 ZX Twin Turbo" "Blimey - bet that shifts" (interested again) "Yes it does" (cue smug expression:D and noisy exit!) I could never claim it's subtle, but at least they stand out from the usual crowd of tuned up family cars!!!! :D :D CheerZ, John.
  8. Hmmm, Anita, do I detect a hint of sarcasm in option 4, perchance???;) You just wanted to start again so you could claim number 0001, now, didn't you?:D :D
  9. Hello mate, I'm sorry, I really can't help with your problems, other than to suggest that perhaps you try http://www.zclub.net forum as well. This forum is dedicated to the Z32 (post '89 300zx), but the Z-club forum has an individual arena for 300zx Z31 (like your own) related issues. Sorry I can't be more use ... hope this helps!;) CheerZ, John.
  10. It's all done with mirrors, mate!:D
  11. Well, I'll take 0009, then ... Since it's partially yours, Gio, should keep the double identity gag running for Paul's amusement!!!:D :D :D Did you get home OK with that duff headlight, BTW? CheerZ, John.
  12. Thanks Andy, top info .... have tracked down the item in question, will wait 'til daylight to attempt the removal and clean-up operation, though ... CheerZ Matey, John.:D
  13. Thanks Andy, certainly does sound like that .... Can you tell me where to find the connections for the CAS? Thanks for your help .... John.
  14. Vijay - agreed, magnetic tool required! Paul, I'm trying to take the pipe off at the end that it joins the solid fuel pipe going over the block, so I can stick it in a bottle to catch the cascade of fuel ... surely if I take it off at the filter itself, it'll just p1ss all over the place? Might give it another crack now I've calmed down ... need some light relief, just been filling in my tax return :( Thanks for the offer of the PTU, mate, if you're coming along tomorrow, could you bring it with you .. looks like I'll be coming in the missus car; James has also offered to bring me one to try also, but I guess two PTUs are better than none!:( Thanks a lot. John.
  15. Rob, Have been trying the fuel suggestion, but can't get the fecking pipe off ... feels like I'm gonna break it. Just to cap it all, I've dropped a screwdriver down the front of the block and it's now skulking about in front of the fan behind the radiator ... can't get to the damn thing ... Ahhh, bollox, I'm not cut out for this DIY lark - leave it to mr mechanic on Monday, methinks ... he can get the damn screwdriver out! CheerZ, John.
  16. Bit of an update - went out to start her this morning and once again, she ran for about 10-15 seconds before dieing ... died as soon as I hit the pedal ... next crank she ran for about 5 seconds, and then back to no go at all. Could this be hinting at PTU, then, since it runs a little after being left for a long period? Will be doing diagnostic, just as soon as I can get on Andy's site ... Thanks for any further help ...
  17. Well .... maybe;) Do we have a rival to James 300 as the site's official poet laureate?:D :D
  18. Cheers FT ... it might be those "very nice men" if all else fails!
  19. Well, I was beginning to wonder if they'd put Diesel in the Optimax pump ... but no, I don't think I've lost all my marbles just yet!!!!!!!!:D Clearly my beloved motor does not wish to go to Lakeside on Sunday ... bugger.
  20. Thanks Aaron, Will try the fuel thing and have a look. No, haven't done the ECU diagnostic yet - I'll have to have a look on Andy's site and see how you do it! CheerZ, John.
  21. Could anyone help me please? I've just come back from a few days break and upon firing up the batmobile, have encountered a slight problem .... She fires up fine:D But will only run for about a second, hunts around at about 5 revs then dies:( Have just repeated the start/stop process about 15 times, without success ... bugger. BTW, first time I fired her up, there was a 20 seconds of running, followed by erratic revs, then died. Can't see anything loose, otherwise untoward under the bonnet. Any ideas/similar experiences? ThankZ, John.
  22. Yep, very good ... LMAO!:D
  23. Well Stu/Aaron, you're both right. Aaron, you're spot on, it's a doddle to remove the relevant trim and gain access to the striker plate. Stuart, you're right about needing small hands though ... it's grazed knuckles time!! Just reminded me why I'm usually a wuss and take the thing to a garage!! Anyway door catch re-aligned and repaired, so mission was a success! :D :D CheerZ, John.
  24. Mike, more than you can possibly imagine. Oh, and thank-you for fulfilling your role as pedant, and pointing out the inplausibility of my metaphor!!:D I can only cite red wine as my defense. Surely, the moderators should move James's reply to the "For Sale and Wanted" section??:D :D
  25. LMFAO - literally !!! Don't know how I missed this the first time - superb:D
