inlet cam pulley wheels
oops i forgot to mention, i have only nipped the bolts up with a small bar and put the belt on and timed it all no probs, the tensioner all tight etc and i thought it would be easier to torque the 4 cam pulleys with the belt on bu still jamming the pulley wheels with a screwdriver, the sound was like something breaking but the turns no probs. Cheers John Crisp

Knackered Thermostat
Timmy I am not a 300 expert but a cracked thermostat sounds a bit dodgy to me, if it was cracked to me that would mean like in stuck open, it would cause the car not to heat up properly like as in poor heaters etc,or do they mean cracked causing the thermos to stay shut, any history of your car having a water pump fitted or anything like that . Does your radiator have any cold spots on it like its maybee blocked after the engine is warmed up. HTH John Crisp

Need Urgent Input From Lads With Auto's!
Jaz there was a guy on here sellin conzults for 250 quid a few weeks ago, the price you'd pay nissan for a function check on the box/roadtest would probably not be much more, all you'd need is a laptop. I plan to get one in the future as DIY is the name of the game...garages are a nightmare..i know i work in one lol. HTH John Crisp ps i have his e-mail add somewhere if it helps

Need Urgent Input From Lads With Auto's!
Jaz I have an auto 300 but touch wood the box is ok. I have experience working on ZX auto boxes on buses, I have had a fault where the bus was going up and down gears very erratically, it was the wires shorted together for the kickdown switch that caused the fault (the switch should have been open till the throttle pressed down to close the circuit). This coach had a box overhaul by so called ZF experts and was still the same, what if the kickdown switch was faulty on your car, the box wouldnt know where it was and would be erratic . I know the ZF thingy isnt anything to do with the 300's but maybee its a similar fault. Do u have a workshop manual Jaz as this may help u. Just my 2p's worth and i hope i aint sidetracked u in any way...all the best John Crisp

Inlet Camshaft Pulley Wheels
Thanks for all the replies. I have got all the pulley wheels off now, Syko, I got one of my workmates to buzz the bolts off with an airgun while i held the pulleywheels so the bolts loosened no problem. I have changed the 2 inlet cam seals butthe leak looks like it has been coming from the passenger side inlet and exhaust seals as when i took the cam cover backplate off, the oil can be seen building at the bottom of the 2 holes for the camshafts to sit through and running down. WOOOHOOOO i have found the leak at last. Cheers Again All.....John Crisp

Import Z friendly insurance
Try AON Insurance on 01384 552 670. They used to have a monthly advert in Jap Performance mag but they aint been in it for a while but they advertised an Import Policy and to be honest they gave me 2 good quotes with my 300 and the GT4 I had previously. HTH John Crisp

Inlet Camshaft Pulley Wheels
Can anyone tell me if the inlet camshafts have any form of keyway on them, if not hows the best way to time them as i dont have the rocker covers off. Am about to replace the camshaft seals, the exhaust cams have 4 bolts on them so thats no problem to mark when taking off the pulley wheels. Any help appreciated Cheers John Crisp

timing belt tensioner
Cheers Jack I have the manual on CD but i find it a bit vague. The left bank inlet cam seal is definately leaking, with oil running down the inside of the cam cover plate. The next problem is with the pulley wheels. The exhaust ones are OK as they have 4 bolts in them, again the manual doesnt show (or i havent looked hard enough) whether the inlet cam pulley wheels have keyways or guides on them. Hows the best way to mark them if they have not guides as i dont have the rocker covers off (have already had manifold off to re-seal rocker covers.....never again as it was a nightmare). Any help again appreciated. Cheers John Crisp

timing belt tensioner
Cheers Andy I am confident doing the job but u know yourself when u read any manual a lot of the procedure is bullshit, with there usually being an easy way to tension the belt. I suspect its actually the left inlet cam seal thats leaking as with the two top covers off, there are deposits of oil around the back of the cam pulley wheel, I only have the PTU to remove to see the exhaust cam to see if its leaking too. Cheers again Andy...................John Crisp

Oil Galleries on block
I have an oil leak on my 300 from the passenger side front of the engine that drips onto the a/cond pump. Tomorrow i am gonna replace the cam seals but i cant actually see where the oil is coming from. Would the leak possibly be coming from the head gskt from the oil galleries to the rockers or maybee am i right in thinking the cam seals are leaking. Has anyone noticed where in the block the oil galleries are, my thinking is if the galleries in the head are at the outside of the block face then thats where my leak is. Any help appreciated Cheers John Crisp

Mitsi GTO Probs
Every town/city etc has garages that u can buy MOT's, the real shit thing is when someone gets stung with a car that obviously aint roadworthy and is gonna cost a fortune to fix, its different with an escort or something that maybee could be made roadworthy at a minimal expense with parts from scrappies etc but with a GTO.....many pennies by the sounds of it. I am not trying to make excuses by changing the car type or anything like that as i think to sell a ringer gives to me the buyer the right to give the seller a bit of BASEBALL BAT............ Just my 2p's worth Cheers and good luck gettin yer money back John Crisp

It does have the slight lumpy mis at tickover now but it is running and i am gonna take it to my work to fix the oil leak now and do the timing belt.....i HATE cars i work with commercials and coaches ..cars to me are a nightmare lol..anyways all the best everyone and thanks for the replies. Cheers again...john crisp ps ANDY my car has 70 k miles on it...am i right in saying the ptu's last for around about this milage

I think its petrol as it isnt green or anything like that , I have noticed the car when started from cold runs at 2000 rpm then drops down so i hope the fault is overfuelling an start up and has flooded the engine stopping a good spark. Am gonna refit all the plugs now. Cheers john crisp

cheers guys..i just posted to this thread and it got lost lol. My spark plugs are all soaking wet..i am putting that down to the car not being used and taken out the garage and put back in and have cleaned all the plugs and just now am waiting till the cylinders hopefully dry out. I tried the 4 easy plugs first then put them back in after cleaning them...the car kicked then nothing so i have cleaned all 6 now and am just about to put them all back in. Cheers guys for all yer help... John Crisp
