My new 300 is either amazing or infuriating! Some advice please.
Tom, firstly moved your thread in to help and advice. and welcome Re the code 34, quick way to establish if the det sensor is dead, disconnect the loom plug, on the ecu side, bridge the spade connectors with a 1 mega ohm resistor (from a tv repair shop, about 50p for 5) diconnect the battery for an hour, (this resets the ecu) after this connect it back up, and run an ecu diagnostic check. the resistor will tell the ecu it is working and hopefully get code 55. So it prooves det sensor failure. If still shows 34, there is likely to be another problem, go over engine bay, checking all connectors for signs of green crud, and clean with a small file or sandpaper and some electrical contact cleaner. usual suspects are the ecu temp sensor (top water pipe, centre of cam cover) the maf, (under nose cone) and the idle control valve ( rear of engine right hand side near det sensor) all these will cause issues if not really clean Air con, is it blowing hot all the time? could be that the previous person removed the thermostat, yes its been seen before, can you give us more details. stu

DVLA and databases
the insurers access the dvla database of all car history, if the dvla, are saying they have done all they can, i would take my documents into a police station, and get them to do a police pnc check to establish what details are held on dvla. if its not on the pnc, then it will show that dvla has done something wrong. Confirm with them the VIN number and it should show all details they hold. Could be that someone has typed the wrong vin number in, All details of insurers, and police, customs etc access details via dvla.

Timing Belt Cover (Driver side)
the ptu is held on with 4 bolts as you state, i have relocated the ptu to behind the passengers headlight, of the two bolts that are cross threaded, can you get some long nose pliers under the head of the bolt and remove with socket? i think i have a spare set of cam covers but need to check tomorrow.

Spark plugs
ngk pfr6b-11c are specific to the 300zx. not cheap, but you get what you pay for, i tried a cheaper set of plugs, and it ran like a bag of poo. NGK oem all the time. 11c 's are good for standard or modded zed engines, you can get 11b's but pretty rare in the uk.

one for the MOT guys front brakes
whilst just changing my front disks, my drivers side front brake dust / heat shield fell off, this is the large sheet of metal behind the disk, due to the rust getting into it. it wasnt held in place by any screws or bolts, just sits on the hub. Is it needed for MOT, or is there some stupid reason in the mot guild-lines that it has to be in place, like if you run over someone, it has to be there so the person you ran over, after hitting the bumper, being dragged under the car, past the splash guard, missing the cross member, you dont get your arm caught in the moving brake disk??, then after you have dealt with the exhaust just below the turbo's, you hit the rear diff and flop out of the back of the zed, as the drivers then stops.... anyone?

Useless info about Olympics
1st useless fact ive found on the Olympics, there are 205 countries this year, im pretty good at geography, but ive never heard of these. Bhutan, Benin, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Lesotho, Myan mar São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste Tuvalu WTF, where did they spring up from, even had to look them up, but Tuvalu has the union jack on its flag, gets my bet to win gold. 5000/1
